my favorite is definetly popcorn, because it is so cheap, and it is mostly air so I don't feel guilty about eating mass quantities of it! Plus it never gets boring because there are so many different kinds! Cheese, White Cheddar Cheese, caramel, etc...
Have a good night everyone!

I know most of you probably won't know what this is but my favorite munchie is hurricane popcorn.

It's regular popcorn mixed with rice arare (kinda like small cracker bits with a soy sauce flavoring) mixed with furikake (bits of roasted seaweed and sesame seeds.

Definitely a local favorite--and I usually have to send a few bags to friends on the mainland when they get the munchies. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hey there OohteenyWahine,

I lived in Japan for three and 1/2 years and I use to eat something very similar to that...if it's not the same thing. I LOVE the flavor of Soy Sauce so they were so my favorite thing to snack on!!! I haven't thought about them in so long...

kmullini 01-07-2001 11:21 AM

Shopgirl, I lived in okinawa, Japan for seven years as a kid. I'm not big on seaweed or sushi though. Even though I've never tried sushi. Never cared for the smell of raw fish. I'd say popcorn is up there on my list and that chex party mix even though its loaded with junk.

I love eating kaki mochi too shopgirl..even though they leave a nasty smell to your breath--that's why I never eat them at the movies.

I also like eating the roasted seaweed that comes in those little packages. The teriyaki kind is definitely my most favorite. I like California roll sushi too!

Two favorite snacks that come to mind: Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips and Chex Mix. I could eat a whole bag of Chex Mix in about 10 minutes.

I also love Combos...I never take a road trip (to school, or whatever) without a bag of Combos and a bottle of Gatorade.

lifesaver 01-08-2001 03:29 PM

for me, it's all about the E.L. Fudge cookies. I am like a crack whore when it comes to those. My whole family knows about my addiction to them. My mom even used to send them to me in the mail during finals. I have gotten all of my friends addicted to them because when they come over they'll binge on them with me as well.

My other vise is coca-Cola. I could drink 3 liters a day easily, bit limit myself to about 1 1/2 to 2 liters a day. I really am the love slave to Mr. Pibb, but can not get it in my part of Texas, so I settle for coke.

What kind of pop/soda is Mr. Pibb? Is it a cola too? Sorry about my ignorance, but I'm from Canada and never heard of it before now. Thanks! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

lifesaver 01-10-2001 05:27 PM

Mr. Pibb is an off brand imitation soda intended to taste like Dr. Pepper (the other official drink of texas). The tastes are similar, but Mr. Pibb is sweeter, which is why I like it.

PS Don't feel bad about never hearing of it. A lot of people up north have never heard of Dr. Pepper.

Hey Kmullini...

I too lived on Okinawa!!! I lived there from January '89-June '92. I went to Zukeran for three months, Kinser Elementary for three months, then Kubasaki for the rest of the time...basically from the 7th - the 9th grade. When were you there?

I don't like seaweed either. However, I love those popcorn type things with the soy sauce flavor.

Lifesaver...
Mr. Pibb is my favorite too!!!

CutiePie2000 01-10-2001 05:49 PM

Thanks for enlightening me about Mr. Pibb. Next time I'm in the USA, I will have to look for it and taste it for myself!

By the way, here's some websites for you Mr. Pibb lovers! http://www.misterpibb.com/ http://bluweb.com/us/chouser/info/pibb/

CutiePie2000 01-10-2001 05:55 PM

Sorry...me again.
Do you have "Jones Soda" in the USA?

It is kind of an "off brand", too.

The company is the Urban Juice and Soda company (from Vancouver, my hometown WA-HOO!) and they have a website here: http://www.jonessoda.com/

You can submit photos and they may choose it and put it on their bottles!

They also have unusual names like Whoop A$$ Energy Cola. Check it out! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Jones Soda is awesome. We have it in central Indiana, of course that's not too far south, even though my friends from Michigan and Wisconsin think it is.

Yeah we have Jones Cola. I love it. My favorites are strawberry and green apple. I like white cheddar popcorn the best because it doesn't have too much junk in it.

Jones Soda...hmm...I'll have to look for that. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif My fave snacks are Chex Mix, White Cheddar Cheez-its, Lipton Rasberry Ice Tea, and Berry Whipper-Snapple. Yum!

kmullini 01-10-2001 09:02 PM

Hey Shopgirl....

Thats awesome. I lived in Kishaba from 76-83. I moved there when I was 4 yrs old. I went to Kuwee preschool and then went to Zukeran elementary from K through 5. I never went to Kubasaki H.S.. We were there for quite a while. My dad was a marine officer and then we got moved back to Virginia where I went to h.s. Yeah, I remember those typhoons and getting out of school for them. my favorite thing in okinawa was the felix gum you could get at the mama san store.

my favorite snack is popcorn & salt & vinegar potato chips mixed together. pair that with some strawberry soda and I'm good to go!

while we're talking about food (sorry y'all, i skipped lunch and i couldn't decide what i wanted for dinner) someone had started a thread, i don't remember where, about your favorite take-out meal. mine could be either take-out or eat-in. it's cheese eggs and hash brown (mixed together with just a hint of ketchup) from Waffle House...hmm...maybe that's what i'll have....

Billy Optimist 01-13-2001 03:46 PM

Kmullini I went to Hermitage Highschool. I have a cousin who is a sophmore at Stanford.

SHSUChiO 01-25-2001 12:20 PM

My favorite snack is Totino's Pizza Rolls. That's like my major comfort food. And can I just say that what ever it is they put in Diet Coke to make it so addicting should be illegal? I go through a 12 pack in like, two days!

lifesaver 01-25-2001 02:29 PM

i alsoforgot, I like sasusage balls; homeade of course..

2 cups bisquick,
2 cups shreadded cheeze
1 regular size Jimmy Dean or Owens sasuage

bucutie02 01-26-2001 02:29 PM

Well i guess its about time i named my favorite all time snack... well i love drinking Big Red and Cherry 7-up (it reminds me of the cherry-limeade from Sonic). I also love Milano cookies and sometimes i like to have crackers with cream cheese. Have any of you ever heard of dump cake? I know it doesnt sound too yummy but it really is. All you do is dump a can of crushed pineapples (juice and all) into the same type of pan where you would bake a cake, then dump a can of cherry pie filling on top of it, then dump a box of yellow cake mix (dont cook it, just straight from the box) and finally put some cubes of butter on top. You can top it off with walnuts- but i dont like them. Finally you put it in the oven for about i would say 45 minutes. It is sooo good, i like to eat it with ice cream. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

i am printing this up and trying that this weekend. Sounds interesting. I'll let you know how I like it.

bucutie02 01-26-2001 03:36 PM

oh thats great lifesaver- just dont mix them all up, its more like a layer thing- try to put it in a rectangular pan, just so the layers arent too thick, especially the cake mix. You'll know when its done when the butter has completely melted and the cake mix is like a golden brown color. Its best to eat warm- my opinion http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Ok, this is strange, but I LOVE Pickle Flavoured Potatoe Chips. MMmmm. I also love Cherry 7-Up. It is sorta like those drinks called Shirley Temples. Did y'all ever drink those? Sprite and grenadine. Yummy.

But remember that you can never go wrong with chocolate!

Billy Optimist 01-27-2001 02:56 AM

Shirley Temples rock!! I used to love those. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
Recently I've been loving french onion Sun Chips. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/cool.gif

bucutie02 01-27-2001 10:23 AM

Yeah Allie, cherry 7-up is a lot like the shirley temples- those are soo yummy! I remember when i went to Disneyworld (world?land? the one in florida! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif) and we were eating lunch in Epcot- i think we were in China and I had asked for one of those and he brought me the drink alongside a plate full of cherries!! As you can now probably tell- i LOVE cherries!! My mom never buys the jar anymore unless she is going to use them right away because she knows i'll eat them! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

sigmagrrl 01-29-2001 03:09 AM

Well, my snack foods have changed recently because I made a major food overhaul. BUT my old snacks were:

1) Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with a large cup of milk
2) A huge bowl of cereal. Faves: Frosted flakes, wheat chex, Kix, rice chex
3) Toasted bagels with cream cheese and jelly
4) Pigs in a blanket: Wrap Nathan's hot dogs in crescent roll dough, bake for 10-15 min.
5) McDonald's Big Macs: No onions, xtra special sauce
6)Chicken flavored ramen noodles with oyster crackers
7) Entenmann's Cheese Buns and Raspberry Twist

As you can see, I needed to eat much healthier!!LOL
My new snack is ruby red grapefruit Crystal Lite and fresh cauliflower and carrots. I know, doesn't sound as fun or appetizing, but I cannot live without it now!

Ok so I tried it. Let's just say it was an interesting process. I totally wasn't sure about that whole "dumping the box of yellow cake mix on top thing." And I had a bit of a time telling when it was done. Anyway, when it was done I spooned it out onto a plate and lets just say that I have thrown up stuff that looked better than that. But alas, IT WAS SOOOOO GOOOD! I was so surprised. It rocked. Thank you SOOOO much for the recipe. Don't let the looks or instructions fool you it is really good. Apparently a lot of people have heard of them as I was asking around. aparently it's also a boy-scout thing. My boss makes hers with chocolate sauce and browmie mix. but thanks for the recipe. Too easy to make!

bucutie02 01-29-2001 05:57 PM

Hey lifesaver, I am so happy to hear you liked it. Yes i have to admit- it doesnt look like the yummiest thing, but i guess its just like the saying "dont judge a book by its cover" http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

bucutie02 01-29-2001 07:20 PM

I LOVE Dump Cake too!!! My grandma used to make it for me when I was little so now its major comfort food http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Only I use apple pie filling because I don't like cherries.
Oh my other favorite snack are these cracker things I make. You spread a thin layer of creamy peanut butter on a cracker (the buttery kind not like the saltine kind) then stick a couple of mini marshmallows on top of the peanut butter. Then you put them in a toaster oven or the broiler part of a regular oven and toast them until the marshallows are puffed up and browned. (The microwave just doesn't brown them the right way). THOSE ARE SO GOOD!!!!! The marshmallow is all goey and its that whole salty-sweet taste. I could eat like 20 of them at a time http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

KillarneyRose 06-04-2001 09:09 PM

Rice Krispy squares rock!!!! I have a batch cooling as I write this! Yummmmmmmm http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

My friends and I make what we call "White-trash s'mores"

They're just regular s'mores, but instead of melting the marshmellow over a campfire, you stick it on a fork and roast it over an open stove burner (electric, not gas).

It works perfectly, and usually the fork doesn't get *too* hot.

Rudey 06-06-2001 01:25 AM

Generally I enjoy buying mass quantities of white castle or hormel burgers that take me about 2 weeks to finally finish off. I also buy pringles. The weirdest snack I decided to buy was this huge bear shaped container filled with pounds of gummy bears. Well I finished it half way, but I couldn't stick my hand that far down to get the bottom half. So I ended up breaking it open and then it was just nasty because there was no way to cover them and after a couple weeks I had a broken plastic bear filled with dusty gummy bears.
