Lambda Chi Crest on ebay

hey all Lambda Chi brothers, I have put this up for sale on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=270175085372

Im hoping some of you know what it is or how much its worth? I found it at a garage sale and thought id throw it up on ebay to see if anyone who values it more than me would like to purchase it!

thanks for any info

AlphaFrog 10-10-2007 11:38 AM

Wow. From looking at your post and eBay ad...you're pretty greedy and rude. Especially for someone who's trying to get money from people.

ebay seller 10-10-2007 11:54 AM

how so? I buy and sell metal all the time, its a great side business... I found this at a garage sale and could have melted this thing down and gone on my way but thought maybe someone in Lambda Chi Alpha would have more value in it than I do...so I want to make a few dollars, im sorry, but its history of a fraternity and I think someone would like it more than i do

le996 10-10-2007 11:58 AM

i wonder if this is the crest that used to be out in front of the Ball State chapter house. from what i remember it was metal and about that size. Cincinnati is a relatively close to Muncie so it's not without reason to believe that this may be it.

can anyone confirm or deny this hunch?

ebay seller 10-10-2007 11:59 AM

thast very interesting, i may call up there, I currently do not live in Cincinnati, Im a stationed at FT. Brag and picked this up near louisville..you said, used to be? Is that chapter house no longer there?...In all respects if i can find the true owner i would sell it back to them for what i paid for it

le996 10-10-2007 12:04 PM

well the chapter was closed down in 2004(5?) and the house was tore down last year.

i'm from the area around BSU and had several friends who were brothers at that chapter. i'm currently bidding as tdowns12 if anyone was planning to bid to keep it out of a non-brother's hands

ebay seller 10-10-2007 12:06 PM

Le996 thank you for the information, can you explain to me what it is?

well I called BSU and they were anything but helpful and explained that the chapter house was fore-closed by ball state and that all materials had been removed and the property was considered owned/operated by ball state and gave me a number to contact if interested in purchasing the land

le996 10-10-2007 12:37 PM

the emblems in the metal are our fraternities coat of arms, perhaps the most inspiring of all the emblems we keep, most chapters like to keep a representation of this coat of arms somewhere where the brothers can reflect upon it easily, my chapter, for instance keep an engraving of them in our foyer.

the ball state chapter had a coat of arms in the sidewalk leading up to their front door. obviously, when the property was no longer associated with our fraternity they went to lengths to take all related material with them. even if your coat of arms is not from ball state, it will find a loving home at my chapter's house.

ebay seller 10-10-2007 12:57 PM

thanks for the info! best of luck bidding, also if you do win I can have it shipped from cincinnati or NC which ever is closer to your location

NutBrnHair 10-10-2007 12:59 PM

Be patient, ebay seller, you will have additional interest.

ebay seller 10-10-2007 01:40 PM

i hope so nutbrn hair....the military doesnt exactly pay well

EE-BO 10-10-2007 02:14 PM

FYI eBay seller,

It is illegal to charge a 3% surcharge to people buying with credit card. It is also against eBay policy to state in your listing that buyers must pay a surcharge to use Paypal or a credit card.

Just letting you know. If someone reported your auction it would be pulled for that.

Otherwise- good luck. That is one nice looking crest and I hope it goes to a LXA active chapter.

ebay seller 10-10-2007 03:12 PM

thanks ee-bo

ill take that off, i didnt know!

john1082 10-10-2007 03:20 PM

As much as I like it . . .

As much as I like it, I won't bid on this. The Fez was enough. BTW, I'll be in Indy in November and I will check on the care and feeding thereof.

Tom Earp 10-10-2007 04:41 PM

Yes that is me bidding on it!:)

If I win it, it will go to the New LX Z house that I have donated many C of A to and have more to do so! I would like it to be known as the House of C of A's!

One will have a stipulation is the one I got painted by Brothers from Texas Wesleyn which was closed. It is in custody for the time being until it is re-opened.

ebay seller 10-10-2007 05:24 PM

Got your email and PM tom, thanks, Ill work on getting that size to you when i can manage to find a tape measure! I should hope by tommorow evening ill have the dimensions

good luck

ebay seller 10-10-2007 07:14 PM

the size is 14x24

the buyer braxston123 contacted me to sell it outside of ebay for $900.00 but im not going to take that chance as he sounds like a punk kid trying to possibly scam me...also id like to sell it to a user on this forum if possible since your probably more trusted and a member of lambda chi alpha too...i really dont want this going into the wrong hands

I saw One in George's House Last Week!

Brothers,

I did a four hour interview last week with Brother George at his home in Indianapolis as part of my effort to generate a new Lambda Chi History Book for our Centennial.

He was given one of these plaques as a gift during his term as our Executive Director. His is mint!

What a man...What a memory!

This is one of small number that were made for our Fraternity and distributed to a very few Zetas in the Midwest. I would think 12 or so. One is at our IHQ.

It is very nice, well made, and rare.

It may have been stolen or it may have been sold when a House was closed. I doubt if a Lambda Chi would have sold it. But, who knows?

It would be worth buying.

It is not something that I really want for my collection. I am still holding out for another FEZ to show up on eBay!

By the way, John, THE FEZ is on display at IHQ.

The current owner could have disposed of it.

He didn't.

I hope someone in our Fraternity buys it.

This Bronze coat of arms was stolen from the LXA house in Muncie about 4 years ago. It is very important that we get it back. I have contacted the seller to take it off of ebay so we can buy it back. Anyone that can help us please contact me!

Yes, indeed it is the one stolen from the LXA house in Muncie...there are only 4 in existance.

PiLambda1 10-12-2007 10:11 PM

How can you prove that? Is it signed or distinguishable?

It is a very original piece, but there are many people capable of making
it -- and it wouldn't differ much from one fo the other...

ebay seller 10-13-2007 08:50 PM

i have since found the original and rightful owners of this crest, while i guess if really wanted i could have continued to sell it but morals and the idea of it probably now being known stolen property makes it a little hard on the mind to sleep at night...i will take down the auction when i figure out how, sorry to those bidding including Tom Earp who i know really wanted this but its probably for the best as you cant put a price on history...so with that I will attemtp to remove and please stop bidding

PS> saw an ipod touch tonight, they are quite nice! sorry way OT

GammaZeta 10-13-2007 11:44 PM

If it is indeed stolen property, maybe you should forward the name and address of the garage sale that you purchased it at?

Tom Earp 10-14-2007 10:19 AM

Would be interested in finding out how it was proven who the owners were. If there were markings on it then that would be sure fire proof. If it was them, congratulations on getting it back to them.
