Infomercials...HeeHee!
Hello all you beautiful people!!!
I don't think this topic has been posted before, but I was wondering..."What is your favorite infomercial?". Mine definitely has to be the Food Saver, where you can vacuum seal your food. I've seen that one over a gazillion times but I'll still watch it in its whole entirety at 2 in the morning! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif What's funny is that I've actually tried that NAD'S Hair Remover (the one with that lady from Australia). One of my sisters actually bought that thing and IT DOES NOT WORK! It didn't work for me! Despite what they show you on TV, it DOES HURT and IT DOES NOT REMOVE ALL THE HAIR! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif I don't know how those guinea pigs could keep a straight face when they used it on TV. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif Our local Channel 8 news has a special segment called "DOES IT WORK?" and it features many of the gadgets and gizmos we see on TV. I think it's great that more and more news programs are doing homework for consumers to they don't have to waste money! This might not be related to Informercials and please forgive me. BUT, those Pharmeceutical commericals crack me and my Dad up sometimes. Especially when they list the side effects. Like that one for Meridia? or some of the other mood altering drug commericials. i find myself wondering what exactly i am watching and WHY i have been watching it for SO LONG during infomercials. Anyway.. i dont know which one is my favorite, but i do remember this one night my mom and i were watching t.v. and since there was nothing on we were "surfing" and somehow ended up watching this one infomercial for a deep fryer. We were so amazed on how it worked and how good the food came out to be (well it looked good anyways!) that we ended up calling and buying the thing. We really did have a crappy deep fryer before and now we are modernized and have a really cool one. I think she paid between 40-60 dollars for it which isnt really that bad. I think we have bought others things from infomercials but i cant remember what it was right now. I'll keep ya posted if i remember which one is my favorite!

Since I use to work at a company that took orders for some of the different products you just listed, I thought it was my civic duty to give all my GC friends a little tip.
Almost all of the products you see on tv,you can get at the store. For example, that book called Free Money to Change your life,were that dude in the question mark looking jacket runs around telling you how you can get free money from the govenment can be found at your local Barnes and Noble/Books-A-Million type of store. And if you think that you are just getting what you saw on tv,think again. Everyone has to agree. it started as a infomercial and now is like the new must have kitchen appliance. I LOVE MY GEORGE FOREMAN GRILL!!!!!!!!! it is great, i don't cook, so it is the most amazing thing I have ever come across I plug it in, throw some stuff on there, wait and take it off. I love the thing. Seriously, if you don't have one run out and get it, chicken comes off so juicy and good (look, I could sell it myself!) anyway its amazing!!!!!!!

i love the one for the Popeil's food dehydrator - "Make your own beef jerky . . . turkey jerky . . . veal jerky . . . deer jerky . . . any type of jerky!" Absolutely hillarious - my bro and i always think it sounds like the scene in tommy boy: "sixpacks of be- ah, soda, candy bars, ice cream" . . . "yes son, anything you want to keep cool . . . " anyway, just 50 bucks for a beef jerky machine? sign me up dude

My fave current infomercial is MISS CLEO!!! Man, she cracks me up! "Has he evuh shown a tendency to be attracted to men??" LOL!!
My fave infomercial is one that doesn't run anymore, THE SANDWICH MAKER! The one where you could make apple pie by using 2 slices of Wonder Bread and apple pie filling!! IT MADE THE BEST GRILLED CHEESE!! I used to run home from work just to see it! so sad!!! |
I bought that skin stuff from Dr. Rodan and Fields, it is a white bottle with green letters called ProActiv Solution.

Tagging onto what Serenity said, there are a lot of stores (CVS, Walgreens, Walmart) that now sell the "As Seen On TV" items. They're usually in a section by themself. God, I hate the Abslide. We had to go thur pages and pages of upsells everytime someone called in to order one.
My favorite informerical is Don Laparee and his tale of how he went from making $6 and hour painting houses to placing tiny classified ads in newspapers across the country from his tiny one bedroom apartment |

My favorite is the one for the "Taplight", those handy-dandy glorified nite-lights that supposedly stick everywhere, with that annoying guy with the fake Australian accent. Also any infomercial that contains that hideous phrase: "But wait! There's more!"

I have a taplight- well sorta. Its not the original one- but its similar. I bought it through my little brother's fundraiser, its in the shape of a star with a yellow outline. Its great, i love it!
I just got back from walgreens.... LOVE that store for some reason. I love getting my hair things there, and i also like looking at all the soaps, nail polishes, and i always buy my cosmo from there too... i know im a dork! my whole family and friends think its hillarious how around 8pm at night ill get an urge to go to walgreens. Plus any medications i get i always go there- the rest of my family goes to randalls- but walgreens has a drive-thru for the pharmacy and are open 24 hours- what else do you want? Well anyways- i saw that they are selling NADS now, i was just walking down the aisle and saw it. It was like 29.95 for a box- too bad it doesnt work- but its just as well since i prefer shaving- that isnt painful. OK, call me crazy, but...I like when they show before and after photos. You know, like for the face-BEFORE ugly, red, and bumpy skin- AFTER smooth, even, almost perfect skin. Or, for you Nad's lovers, I like to watch the lady rip the hair off of people so I can witness their reaction. These people must be on Valume and crack in order to pleasantly smile and say how pleasant it was. Everytime I see the "as seen on TV" label, something in me wants to buy it. A few years back, I bought my mom the Sobakowa pillow for Christmas from Walgreens (I love it too, bucutie http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ). Damn, that thing is LOUD. The buckwheat hulls inside are so crunchy that when you move your head you hear all sorts of crunchy noises.
Needless to say, we brought that one back. I love the Miss Cleo commercials too! And I also love the late-night computer infomercials where they're saying things about these computers that are just blatant lies! I bought the hairdini once (after it had hit walmart) and promptly returned it because it just didn't work on my hair. It was too thick and long. I also seem to remember some sort of dress, I think it was like the OmniDress, and supposedly you could turn it into a bunch of different styles. My favorites are Set it and Forget it!, and the one with the dress that is basically a piece of material that you can make into like 500 dresses. Cracks me UP!!! But I want a counter-top rotisserie thingie of some sort. I couldn't locate a mid-sized GF Grill, only the mini one (come on now) and the largest one. So I had to settle for a Black and Decker. I guess it works just as well, I love it!!! These indoor grills are definitely must haves. Now, if I could just get a counter-top rotisserie thingie, I will be Columbus' up and coming female Emeril! I am so %$#@ sick and freakin tired of Miss Cleo -- what a rip -- its like a household joke for us now....you know how you'll say something like "Mom called - she and dad are headed to the lake this weekend" and whomever you are speaking to says "Really?" and you're like "Yeah - really." Well now instead of "Yeah-really" we'll say "Dem cards they neber lie" -- what a fruit she is! I hate infomercials -- they are all designed to suck you in. The only one I ever remember buying is the Tony Somebody-Or-Another workout tapes -- there are 3 of them -- one for legs, butt, and thighs, one for abs, and one for total workout. They really are good tapes - I still use them, but that guy is a total jerk...at one point on there while he's doing something on his knees, he says "I'm getting carpet burns from working out -- not from doing what you women out there do" -- I was like...NO HE DIDN'T JUST SAY THAT! I was dying laughing, but still shocked that they let him say that (it was VERY obvious what he was referring to!) Anyway - the George Foreman grills are at Sear's too. But Consumer Report did a huge study on them, and basically said that it doesn't get out as much fat as you think -- it compared basically to frying a burger in a pan on the stovetop. But that was a few years ago, so it may now be "New and Improved!" P.S. Newbie......I LOVE sephora....it is only the best makeup store in the whole wide world! Bucutie02, Sephora is a grand makeup store that has some stores across the nation--its headquarters are located in New York and in San Francisco. They have stores in *most* major metropolitan cities. They have rows and rows of makeup--HUGE store--like Macy's, but it's three levels, instead of Macy's 6 or 7. They sell almost every dept. store brand--from Cargo to Club Monaco to Stila to Christian Dior to their own brand, Sephora (which is drugstore-priced for the most part). And you have to visit their fragrance collection! It is amazing. I heard that Sephora sells the most fragrances in the whole world! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif I could get lost there--it's hard to explain! They have almost every fragrance there. They also have a hair and skincare/wellness level! People have driven 5 hours just to get to a Sephora! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif It is really fun, though..and worth it. They offer free makeovers, using multiple brands. AND their makeup artists are incerecdibly knowledgeable and nice. I recently ran out of my favorite perfume- but everywhere i go they sell it for 85 dollars. Maybe Sephora would have it at a lesser price- its Champs Elysees by Guerlain. I must agree with Newbie...SEPHORA is an awesome store and it takes hours for me to make my usual rounds (even though I know everything in the store already!). Sometimes I'll go in there to buy a small bottle of cologne or perfume for a friends birthday...and then I'll come out with a bunch of makeup or bath beads for myself. And the thing I like about Sephora over here is that they have so many assistants willing to apply makeup for you!

ahhh infomercials...love them! The crazy "hurricane" hand blender has to be one of my all time favs..as well as the superslicer! I made my mom order it but I don't think we ever used it http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif The pasta machine is also one I like, carb addict that I am!
ab slide info: if you're looking for a cheap alternative I found one. There's this round 4-wheeled disc that gardeners use for arrangeing and "possibly" to scoot around the greenhouse faster, at least if it's sturdy enough. Try a hardware/lawn and garden store...I found mine at Home Depot. If you lean your arms across the disc and do the moves like the infomercials say it's just like the real thing. I usualy slide straight out and then on a diag. to both the left and right side. You do have to work a little on keeping your balance! OK has anyone else seen the infomercial for Epil-Stop and Spray? Its this spray on hair remover (kinda the opposite of the spray-on hair, huh?). I am convinced they found the hairiest people in the world to do before- and-afters in this show. They are like Cro-Magnon people or something and this one guy is on there raving about the miracles this product worked on his back hair! AND THEY SHOW HIS HAIRY BACK!!! Anyway so the whole point of this spray stuff is that you're supposed to be able to just spray it on and wipe off all your hair without waiting like you would with a depilatory. And they say it doesn't burn, it just feels like you're spritzing on water, so you can use it anywhere. So as much as I make fun of the commercial I'm dying to know if it really works.
