VH1 Hip-hop Honors..did anybody watch?

I have my own comments but I wanted to see if any of the good folks of GC watched last night..

for those that missed it, it will re-air at 8pm tonight

mulattogyrl 10-09-2007 08:30 AM

SHOOT I forgot it was on.

OneTimeSBX 10-09-2007 09:18 AM

watched 3 minutes of TI and then turned it off.

nikki1920 10-09-2007 10:23 AM

I watched it.
I had to see Snoop and ATCQ. Both were worth it to me. I wasn't feeling Tracy as the host, though.

aopirose 10-09-2007 10:47 AM

I watched it and it was pretty good overall. All I have to say is that guy that sang Keith Sweat's "I Want Her" ain't no Keith Sweat. Mr. aopirose doesn't listen to that kind of music so I had to explain to him who was who. The honorees he knew but it was EVERYBODY ELSE. My daughter danced through the whole thing.

StarFish106 10-09-2007 10:59 AM

Hmm

I was NOT feeling Tweet at all. I didn't know that was her for a minute. She looked weird to me. Even though I like Missy, how she is she going to get hers BEFORE Latifah? I don't get that part. And Tim's been getting it in..way to go!

Can I say I still love Ice-T with his old azz;)

Loved the old old skool part with Grand Wizard Theodore, KRS, Grand Master Busy Bee...ahh when the DJ's Ruled..

LOVED WHODINI...5 Minutes of Funk, Big Mouth....when my man did the Prep I was on the floor....

What in the HADES was T-Pain attempting to do???? He put me in Pain trying to listen to his behind....

Was never really into New Jack Swing..would have rather they honored the Native Tongue Movement (yes I was a backpacker). Who was the guy w/ Teddy though?

ATCQ...they found Jarobi for the show!!!! I am glad that Phife is doing better (fighting diabetes + dialysis). I miss them and Busta for Scenerio was the BEST...(listening to Low End Theory right now). I wish De La could have been a part of their honoring..but I am happy to see them again.

Call me old but 80-90's rap is still the best to me!:D

nikki1920 10-09-2007 11:52 AM

I was wondering what was up with Phife, he looked "sick" to me.

I think Missy got it because of her producing and video skills. She owes THAT to Latifah though..hmm

I was wondering who that was with Teddy too. Did Aaron and Damon have a falling out with him or something?

Velocity_14 10-09-2007 12:41 PM

Did you all hear Keyshia Cole when she came in off key when she was singing with Ne-Yo? A hot mess. That's my girl but she doesn't have a very good ear....that ain't the first time she has been singing off key on a song other than hers.

I love Snoop!

Is it just me, or was Timberland 'on swole' last night?????

StarFish106 10-09-2007 12:53 PM

Keyshia Cole

i want to shoot her wardrobe person....she always has on something on the eh no side.... She can dress better than what she does most of the time.

ladylike 10-09-2007 01:08 PM

I loved ATCQ! And Nelly doing the wop made my day! Whodini! :D

Keyshia Cole, Ne-Yo and T-Pain sucked to the highest of sucktivity.

Kool Moe Dee should change his name to Kool Moe Double-Dees. He looked quite cushiony. :o Busta, too.

kiml122 10-09-2007 01:44 PM

Ok, I'm just looking at the show now, and first off
Tweet, nope wasn't feeling her and it took me a very long time even figure out it was her. I was going thru my mental rolodex saying who were the people thta were singing for Missy.....why come Missy didn't do her thing?

Timbo....I see that he has lost weight, and tried to buff up, but ummm he ain't there, and when he started to lift his shirt....I was like naw dude...he he he, but that is still my man

That hot mess wih T-Pain was ilky, that shyt was a mess. He totally messed it up for me.

I just saw Ne-Yo and Keyshia Cole and umm yeah is all I can say about her and that singing, or if that is what you can call that.

OMG:eek: the entire time I was looking at Fat Moe Dee....oops I mean Kool Moe Dee, I was like he is chunky Moe Dee....yeah dude is a little on the chunky side considering I just saw one of his video's last week...I think it was Wild Wild West and dude was in the leather being all slim....I wasn't sure that he was going to be able to walk down gthe steps and rap at the same time and still have breath.

Ok, I'm with everyone else....who is this fool up on stage with Teddy Riley...and speaking of
Teddy....tell dude to take off those shades and that hit becaue it makes him look like a bug.

Ok, that is what is wrong with Phife because I think it was last week Wendy Williams was talking about a pic of him in a mag and she was dissing him like crazy talking about how he was looking. I mean she and her side kick Charlamagne were like he was looking like doo doo.

I so agree, rap in the 80's early 90's was the IT.....ya heard.

TotallyWicked 10-09-2007 02:13 PM

watching it right now..."the freaks come out at night" AW HELL NAW! I may be making it to my appointment late..LOL

ladylike 10-09-2007 02:17 PM

I would have felt like a kid again if Latifah, De La Soul, Jungle Brothers, Monie and ATCQ would have done "Buddy." Would have lost my natural mind. :D

kiml122 10-09-2007 02:22 PM

Ok, for real the tribute to Whodini was the shyt. I liked everyone, hell even Nick Cannon was good. All I'm saying is Whodini still got it....hell was that Dr. Ice from UTFO out there doing like he use to do, and when he was out there doing the prep with Nellie, hey it didn't get no better than that.

Naw for real i am like tripping that Harvey Keitel is doing the Snoop tribute....that is hella-funny.

Will someone please tell Bow Wow that you can't be gangsta and only be 5ft tall....he he he

kiml122 10-09-2007 02:51 PM

ATCQ - Ali got his teeth done...good looking out dude...makes you look much better...:)

Busta has a serious gut...what is up with that...he he he

Yo Tribute to ATCQ....yup, LOVED IT!!!! I agree with ladylike if Latifah, JB, De La, Monie would habe been there and did Buddy...I wouldn't have been no more good.

Sick or not the five footer still put it down....they did my joint Award Tour:)

Yeah I liked Common, Fat belly Busta, Lupe Fiasco and Pharrell and their tribute

And Kim....you and the Fat Moe Dee jokes..u are killing me (but so true)

StarFish106 10-09-2007 02:56 PM

What is up with Phife Dawg

A Tribe Called Quest is being celebrated for their ingenuity and creativity tonight on Hip Hop Honors, but one of its members, Phife Dawg, gets extra respect for the courage he’s brought to his battle against diabetes. The ailment afflicts a big chunk of the African American population; reports tell us that 13 percent of blacks over the age of 20 suffer with the condition. Phife, one of the Tribe’s founding members, is fighting the condition with dialysis, and a recent switch in treatments has made him feel much better, one of the reasons he was able to participate in the Honors show.

“For the last 3 yrs I’ve been a dialysis patient,” says Phife. “The first two years I was on peritoneal dialysis, which caused me to gain a great deal of weight. For the last seven months I’ve switched over to hemodialysis, which has caused me to lose weight and has me feeling a whole lot better. Most people aren’t used to seeing me at this weight. Initially, I weighed too much for my size and height and now I’m where I need to be.”

As for his future outlook, Phife says: “My best friend and manager, Rasta Root, volunteered to be tested as a potential kidney donor, and he passed the screening process. It’s great news for me! Hopefully that will happen sooner than later. It’s been a tough year, but things are looking great for me.
I am grateful that my group is receiving this honor, and would like to thank friends, family and fans for their prayers and well wishes.”
Hip Hop Honors CO-Executive Producer Fab 5 Freddy was thrilled that his friend’s current condition allowed for full participation. “Working on this year’s show was a labor of love, our best ever, and Phife’s health was constantly on our minds as we re-worked shoots and interviews to accommodate his good days and bad days all the while hoping and praying that he’d have a good day on show day so the world could nod there heads once again to A Tribe Called Quest, one of hip hop’s most unique and creative groups. They were prime representatives of young black artistic intelligence throughout the 90s, a rare commodity in today’s hip-hop landscape. Phife had a great day at Hip Hop Honors and Tribe closed the show with a big bang.”

GIRL!!!! you and me bof.

ETA: whoever thought this up for Vh1 deserves a raise.

skeeliteful 10-09-2007 06:44 PM

The man with Teddy Riley was Chauncy from Blackstreet.

WHY oh WHY was T-Pain singing "I Want Her"? They couldn't find Keith Sweat?

Keyshia Cole needs to sit down right next to T-pain.

ATCQ was THE BEST tribute. I would've lost my mind of they did Buddy.

I wish Missy would have mentioned Aaliyah during her tribute. I believe producing Aaliyah's cd One in a Million solidified Missy as a producer.

And where did Harvey Keitel fit into all of this ?

Really, that was Chauncey, well whatever he has been on, he needs to leave it alone.

I was asking some of my friends that same exact thing earlier today when I was watching, because I couldn't figure out the connection, but hey maybe they weed buddies...he he he

MzJ25 10-09-2007 07:30 PM

I thought the show was okay, but here is my assesment.....

When Tweet came on I callled my friend and I said "Some one needs to call Tweet's kids and have them come pick up their momma"....She looked the fool and her singing was a H.A.M.

T.I- not that great but I still like him, and I think he's cute so he could still get it. Eventhough he only comes to my ankle.

T-Pain WRECKED that song, and not in a good. Somebody needed to page Keith.

Teddy Riley looked as though he may have switched "teams". I bet he's dating Chauncy cause he looked like he switched "teams" too. Not sure when that happened though.

Ne-Yo and Key Key- No words. This was a travesty. She was off key, he was a mess....uggghhh just no words. I agree, her stylist needs to be shot.

Timbo was mad swoll(sp). He has lost a lil bit though. He was on Justin Timberlake's concert on HBO and he has lost weight since then.

Sidenote: If anyone has HBO and you can catch reruns of Justin's concert......OFF THA HOOK.

Overall....The show was okay. They sure as hell did a better job than what BET or MTV could have done.

My friend told me that he and Snoop are good friends. I don't know how that true that is.

Amen! When he came out for Snoop's tribute of all I was like, Shyne must not be available  Him and Young Berg need to drop the wannabe gangsta act FAST

jitterbug13 10-09-2007 10:32 PM

Had only seen a little bit last night (had to watch Boondocks) but saw the whole thing tonight.

Who told Tweet that the poodle hair was in style? She looked a HAM. And Ciara is not Aalyiah reincardinated (sp)!!!!

To me, Ne-yo was o.k., channeling his inner-MJ. But Keyshia and T-Pain: SMH. :(

Loved the Whodini tribute. Everybody was good on that one.

ATCQ: :D :D Didn't know Phife is ill, but glad he is doing better. I wish they would hurry up and do that reunion album they've been talking about for years.

Snoop: they went and did songs when he still had Doggy in his name. :p

The reaction to Kool Moe Dee was the same to the one when I saw Big Daddy Kane in Dave Chappell's Block Party:  And Busta need to stay away from the drinks.

LMAO! That's exactly what I said! I had to dust off my Best of Tribe this morning.... I miss the OLD Busta.... I loved it!

*sidenote* Seeing my 2nd husband (Common) perform my favorite song by my all time favorite group...... PRICELESS. I straight up had a moment. :p

Thanks for this. I knew that he had diabetes, but I didn't know about the dialysis. I knew he didn't look good last night, though. :(

OH
MY
Goodness.... I would probably still be laying out in the family room. LOL

That was so good for me. I miss my Tribe. They even brought Consequence out for the last song - I was wondering if he was gonna show up.

Right...I missed the memo announcing Vh1 as more hip hop than BET. At any rate, the show was pretty awesome.
I think you could tell that T.I. was a fan watching him perform that song. He nailed it. And when T came out and started to walk...awesome

Yeah I thought it was a little early for Missy to be getting honored but more props to her though.

T-Pain - not so easy without all the tricks huh? Tweet? Back to wardrobe dear

I think I had forgotten how big of ATCQ fan I was but I appreciate the reminder!

I LOVED New Jack Swing...but they could've done a better job with it IMO

nikki1920 10-10-2007 09:01 AM

Timbaland took up body building after Aaliyah died.

THAT WAS CHAUNCEY!!??? HE LOOKS HORRIBLE!!!

Just for one performance, I would love to see Ciara SING her part and not just shout it then start dancing. And she will NEVER be Aaliyah.

Keyshia:  You could have been on key at least.

Ne-Yo: You did your thing. Stop trying to be Mike though.

oh.my.god. o.k., that was Doctor Ice doing the prep? I need to see that part again.
f*** wendy williams and charl for dissing phife.
overall, I thought the show was fair. interesting, though, how whodini came up with their name, how UTFO started as breakdancers.

I was like NOOOO.. Not Treach..lol He still sexy though. :D lol Juelz Santana messed up the lyrics to Everythings Gonna Be Alright (one of my favorite Naughty songs). But Big Boi and Wyclef did good.

The Tribute to Too Short kinda sucked to me. I was like WTH is Lil Jon doing. I know that Too Short did a verse on Salt Shaker but that was a Ying Yang song.

Not a big Cypress Hill fan but I love Gym Class Heroes. :D So I enjoyed the Tribute.

The Best of the show was the De La Soul and Slick Rick tributes IMO.
