Favorite pub songs that people sing along with .. .

You know how you go to bars and when certain songs come on the jukebox everyone seems to sing along and somehow know the words to? The girls anyway . . .

List your top one, five, ten . . whatever. The ones you would put together for a mix tape . . .

ZTAMich 10-08-2007 09:41 PM

Sweet Caroline
Build Me Up Buttercup
Cecilia
Sweet Home Alabama
Promiscuous...(cause why be all 'oldies'?)

SHEETCAKE 10-08-2007 09:44 PM

Patty-cake, patty-cake,
Not as good as SHEET!

Anything by CAKE.

"The Stripper" should be taken off of all jukeboxes. You try having a woman jump out of your fluffy moist insides. :(

Paradise by the Dashboard Light
Piano Man
Knock Three Times
Don't Stop Believin'
Livin' on a Prayer (or whatever Bon Jovi Slippery When Wet song of your choice)
What's Going On (4 Non Blondes)

I used to work at a karaoke bar.

Sister Havana 10-08-2007 10:14 PM

In Bloomington: "Never Wanna F'n See You Again" by Rich Hardesty. Play that on the jukebox at Kilroy's and everybody sings along!

honeychile 10-09-2007 12:24 AM

I think most people go for oldies because more people know the words, but I could be wrong.

Piano Man (or almost anything else by) - Billy Joel
Build Me Up, Buttercup
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynard Skynard
We Are Fam-A-Lee ('burgh only)
Runaround Sue - Del Shannon (?)
Hey Jude - the Beatles
Friends - Bette Midler

And none of the above are "my" karaoke songs!

bcdphie 10-09-2007 01:25 AM

Summer of 69
The Unicorn (Irish Rovers)
Living on a Prayer
Where the Streets Have No Name
Thunderstruck

AlphaFrog 10-09-2007 07:23 AM

I Love Rock & Roll
Goodbye Earl (well, at least the "Earl had to die" part)
Summer Nights
I Will Survive

And I used to go to a bar where everyone would sing along with Hank Williams Jr's Family Tradition, and would add the following:

Why do you drink? To get drunk
(Hank) Why do you roll smoke? To get stoned
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote? To get laid

SWTXBelle 10-09-2007 07:42 AM

Pub songs!

Irish pub songs!

The Minstrel Boy
The Wild Rover
Rising of the Moon
Whisky in the Jar
Maids, when you're young, never wed an old man.
Three Jolly coachmen

FSUZeta 10-09-2007 08:00 AM

LOL - Irish songs are a whole new catagory!

Oh, Dear, What Can the Matter Be? is one of my favorites.

When I read the thread title, I figured that was the catagory -- Irish and British pub songs. Pub=British/Irish to me, while bar=American.

I'll add these pub songs to the list:

She Was Poor but She Was Honest
I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts
My Old Man's a Dustman

As for bar songs, I'd have to add:

Stand By Your Man
Don't You Want Me
Wild Thing (The Troggs)
House of the Rising Sun
Shout
(thanks to "Animal House")

irishpipes 10-09-2007 11:28 AM

American Pie
Only the Good Die Young & Piano Man
Build Me Up Buttercup
Whiskey in the Jar
You Picked a Fine Time to Leave Me Lucille (with the dirty words)
Friends in Low Places
Maragaritaville

Yep, that's what I remember most from college fraternity parties! :p

My husband's uncle used to own a biker bar in SC, and some popular choices there were:
Freebird (Lynard Skynard)
Anything Bocephus (Hank Williams Jr for any of you who don't know his nickname)
Angel (Aerosmith... hey, these bikers had a soft side)
Wanted Dead or Alive (Bon Jovi)
Man in the Box (Alice in Chains)

I forgot the other quintessential Irish Rovers song - Wasn't That a Party ("Could have been the whiskey, might have been the gin, could of have been the 3, 4 6-pack, I don't know, but look at the mess I'm in. My head is like a football, I think I'm gonna die, saying me-oh me-oh my, wasn't that a party...")

Fawn Liebowitz 10-09-2007 01:14 PM

The favorites when I was in school were "Why Don't We Get Drunk (and Screw)" and "You Never Even Called Me by My Name (The Perfect Country and Western Song)", which is one of my all-time favorites. At a bar that played oldies..."Mack the Knife" and "My Girl". Gawd, I'm old.

AlphaSigOU 10-09-2007 01:39 PM

No fighter squadron bar - ahem, 'heritage room' is complete with a bunch of drunken fighter jocks singing:

Glorious, Victorious
Throw A Nickel In The Grass (Save A Fighter Pilot's Ass)

The list degenerates from there... :D

You don't give the GC music majors enough credit.;)

Oh, and MysticCat knows everything about everything, and make that triple when it comes to music.:p

WVU alpha phi 10-09-2007 02:26 PM

Jessie's Girl

Your wife can rest assured, knowing everything is different from being RIGHT.

A man can know everything there is to know, and still loose an argument to a woman.:p

California Girls by the Beach Boys.

My son's band just recorded a punk/ska tune called "Denied in the Jacuzzi"
...stay tuned...if they ever make it big it's sure to be a pub song....very popular in our neighborhood at the moment....

SWTXBelle 10-09-2007 03:46 PM

Those were the days, my friend . . .
