I think most people go for oldies because more people know the words, but I could be wrong.

Oh, Dear, What Can the Matter Be? is one of my favorites.

When I read the thread title, I figured that was the catagory -- Irish and British pub songs. Pub=British/Irish to me, while bar=American.

My husband's uncle used to own a biker bar in SC, and some popular choices there were:

Anything Bocephus (Hank Williams Jr for any of you who don't know his nickname)
Angel (Aerosmith... hey, these bikers had a soft side)

I forgot the other quintessential Irish Rovers song - Wasn't That a Party ("Could have been the whiskey, might have been the gin, could of have been the 3, 4 6-pack, I don't know, but look at the mess I'm in. The favorites when I was in school were "Why Don't We Get Drunk (and Screw)" and "You Never Even Called Me by My Name (The Perfect Country and Western Song)", which is one of my all-time favorites. At a bar that played oldies..."Mack the Knife" and "My Girl". Gawd, I'm old.

No fighter squadron bar - ahem, 'heritage room' is complete with a bunch of drunken fighter jocks singing:
