Reality shows: Thumbs up or down?

I know they are a little cheesy, however they are the only thing I watch on TV besides the news or news shows, like Dateline.

KillarneyRose 05-24-2001 11:12 AM

The only "reality show" I have watched was Temptation Island and I will admit that I saw every episode! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif

I couldn't help it though, it was like driving past a bad accident on the freeway...you don't WANT to look but you just can't help it!

Sorry - I can't stand "reality" t.v. The cheese factor is way too high. When some of my friends forced me to watch Survivor one night at their house, the only redeeming quality I ever saw was Colby. He was hot. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gifOther than that, I find reality t.v. boring. I just don't get the attraction.

SuperXO 05-24-2001 11:45 AM

I don't like any of them except Survivor. I don't know how that one can suck me in so much! The others just look horrible. Like Boot Camp? Ugh! But, did anyone see the final? I never really watched it, but saw way too many commercials for it and was wondering if the girl or the guy won in the end?

SilverTurtle 05-24-2001 01:53 PM

Can't stand reality TV.
Mostly because I can't believe these people are this _____(fill in the blank with words like stupid, ignorant, etc.).
I don't watch much TV anyways: M*A*S*H re-runs, That 70's Show!, and The Simpsons are the only shows I watch regularly.

Although, whenever I run across episodes of Real World (new or old) I just have to watch them.

I watched both Survivors, but I only enjoyed the 2nd one because I had to watch Amber.

Didn't really care for the Mole and Big Brother too much.

At first I had my reservations about watching Temptation Island, but watching it was addicting. I enjoyed Boot Camp too.

RW/RR was never really appealing to me until it got to Hawaii, but after Hawaii it just went downhill.

Making the Band was a joke b/c those guys just can't sing...but I enjoyed watching Popstars...because I think those girls rock!

Hooked, hooked, hooked! Like line and sinker hooked! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

I love reality tv (well most of them anyway....didn't care for Boot Camp or Big Brother too much). I am anxiously waiting for the next installments of Survivor, Temptation Island and The Mole! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

And I wish Colby could go on Survivor again....he is sooooooooo hot! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

The only reality shows I watch are Real World and Road Rules. Ok, and I did watch every episode of Temptation Island (it was so addictive) Other than that I can't stand reality tv. Fictional shows are so much better.

Lots-a-Heart 05-25-2001 10:18 PM

I have to admit...I have watched just about all of them (except Temptation Island)....I know...I need a life...........

newbie 05-26-2001 04:22 AM

Thumbs way up...

I LOVE Survivor (fave show!) and Temptation Island. Big Brother was OK too...but I never catched the Mole, Bootcamp (heard it sucked).

For me--it's just fun to watch real people, rather than all those Hollywood actors/actresses who have all been "enhanced" in some way. Not saying that in reality shows they don't make the characters seem more polished/perfect, but it just seems that they are more "real."

Reality TV rots your brain.

dzrose93 04-30-2003 10:58 AM

I can't stand "reality TV". In my book, it's nothing but trash.

The1calledTKE 04-30-2003 11:00 AM

I still like survivor and Big Brother

Supose to be working on it. They must be, the last season was a big hit.

Cool, BB is one of the good ones. What's is it now, season 4?

No kiddin'...it's gotten much better since they actually gave the cast members something to do. The first season was boring because they had too much down time...plus the people were a bit goofy.

Steeltrap 04-30-2003 11:55 AM

I have to say that I'm not a huge reality TV fan, although I liked BB2 for a while. Any genre of TV that may consider giving Orenthal Simpson a show is not a good thing.

LeslieAGD 04-30-2003 12:09 PM

I think Reality Shows are okay, it's just gotten out of control.

MSSTCY1 04-30-2003 01:10 PM

Temptation Island is probably my all time favorite reality show...my friends and I just used to scream and scream at the TV.

I love real world and the osbournes too.

Fraternity and Sorority Life, are okay.. I just kinda can't help myself from watching them

I still cannot believe that there is a reality movie coming out.

CutiePie2000 04-30-2003 01:11 PM

I don't really understand how a reality movie is different from a documentary?

Yea!!!! Another MASH fan!

The only way I can watch MASH anymore is on DVD - no stations carry them here (first time ever you couldn't catch MASH at least once a day).

Reality TV is not for me. I can't stand watching anyone else suffer.

Schmeer 04-30-2003 02:50 PM

Can my thumbs be in the middle on this one...

Also- on Big Brother- I was down in Australia for the first season of it and I could not beleive how crazed the country was with it- I don't think it was anywhere near like that here...was it?

well all reality programs are documentaries. I think its just that most people don't think of them like that b/c most reality shows focus on sex, drama, and drunk people.

Well technically I think they are the same thing. But I think in this case of a "real" documentary and this reality movie is that the film makers/crew interfere in the "casts" actions trying to get them to do stuff they might not normally do, and in a "real" documentary the filmmakers/crew try to keep their distance as much as possible from the participants.

LeslieAGD 04-30-2003 05:22 PM

Documentaries are usually unbiast, or try to be.
Reality movies are edited to exhitbit what the producer/director/cash-flow-people want it to show.

BabyBlue91 04-30-2003 05:44 PM

When there were only a few, I was compelled to watch some of them. But now there are way too many. Now FH and I groan whenever we hear the words "reality TV."
