Applebee's is overrated!
What is it about Applebee's that everyone loves? Everyone I know LOVES Applebee's! The quality sucks and the food is dull tasting. 90% of the time I go out eating with my folks is Applebee's. They pretty much don't like anything else. I go there almost weekly, because that's where everyone else wants to go. :(

I agree. I never understood what all the fuss was about.
|
I will say, though, that the spinach & shrimp salad they had this summer was yum-my.
But all I usually found it good for was meeting people there (becuase they're everywhere & easy to find) for drinks and maybe appetizers before heading someplace else... |
I used to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them when they had Teriyaki Chicken Stir-fry. Now, they have some sort of bowl thing. Definitely not the same as a steaming hot skillet of stirfry...
We used to go to a couple of times a month. Now, we go a couple of times a year. |
I used to LOVE Applebee's, until I went there with my mom on her birthday, and I found a huge hairball in my mashed potatoes. I haven't been back since then.

Who the hell do you know that loves Crapplebee's? Out of all of the hideous "bar & grill" type chains they are by far the worst. I don't step foot in the place and neither does anyone in my circle.

But Denny's? I think I'd rather lick a floor than eat at a Denny's!! I won't even repeat some of the unsanitary conditions I've witnessed there - far, far worse than any other restaurant that I've ever patronized! |
One time at Applebee's the bottom of a thick glass cup fell off as my mother went to take her first sip. She had to go home and change and they only took off the cost for her food (even though they brought it out when they knew she was gone and it got cold)! She had to leave her four daughters (3 of whom are minors 13, 8, &, 8) to go home and change during what was supposed to be a family meal and they still had the nerve to charge full full price for every meal but hers! I still eat there occasionally, but my goodness!
|
We don't even have an Applebee's here, but I've eaten at them twice in my whole life and that was two times too much.
I hope they never bring the chain over here! |
I really do not care for it. It has very few vegetarian options.
|
We don't have one here, and I'm not missing it AT ALL. I AM missing Olive Garden, though. :p
|
I never knew that Applebee's was highly rated. I went there once in Orlando and had terrible food and service. I've never been back. Friends of mine have had the same experience and won't go there either.

We go there all the time but not because we love the food or anything. It's one of a handful of places where our picky 4-year old likes to eat (the other notable one being Friendly's), so we go there to keep him happy. On the plus side, it is a child-friendly restaurant which is a must with a preschooler.
If we're talking about chain restaurants, I'll take Ruby Tuesday any day over Applebee's. |
Crapplebees indeed.
|
I LIKE Applebees, but not love. Their Fiesta Lime Chicken is really good. And their frozen peach margaritas are really, really good. We used to go there in college to start out the weekend. I also ran up a $100 bar tab there once. Damn those margaritas.
But my vote is for Carrabbas. Yummo. |
Applebee's is ok- they have a few good sandwiches. But for the price I can go to a real restaurant and get better, more interesting stuff (fast food joints are really not that cheap any more- for MAYBE 5 bucks more than a Mickey D's or Applebee's meal I can have sushi or indian or a good vegetarian meal elsewhere). I'm a food snob and I hate chains.

People over here seem to be huge fans of chain restaurants period. If you express dislike of chains, you'll be viewed as a snob. Quote:

I haven't had Applebee's in over a year.
I don't miss it because it IS overrated. The people I hang with don't eat at a lot of chain restaurants. |

I like Applebee's appetizers but I like appetizers anywhere. I'm an appetizer hog. They have like one thing I like on their menu, the zesty ranch chicken sandwich or whatever. It's a buffalo chicken sandwich and I love buffalo sauce. We go there because my mum is a celiac and that limits places she can eat out. She can eat the ribs there no problem. I like their fries too but that's it. If it's between Applebees and anywhere else you know where I'm headed. |
They used to have this drink that tasted like an dreamsicle and was pure heaven. I wish I knew how to make it!

What's up with Friday's new menu that I see these commercials for?
Are any of the appetizers any good? |
//slight hijack
Did anyone hear about the breast feeding protest crap that Applebees got involved in a few weeks ago? Thats what i thought this thread was going to be about.... http://breastfeeding.tribe.net/threa...d-c995185f2f8e (I agree...cover up!) //end hijack The Blondie desserts are to die for.... |

I have to admit to a lack of impartiality though- I don't really understand this 'movement'. I can't imagine EVER being comfortable popping out a boob in public, even to feed my (imaginary) kid. I wouldn't ever feel comfortable putting all that out there (plus this being NYC I get nervous when I see babies out on the street or on the subway- there's so much that could happen to such a fragile lil person), and I don't understand the percieved need to do so. |
//continuation of hijack since it appears everyone agrees Applebees ain't the bees knees...
I had 3 babies in 4 1/2 years and somehow managed to NEVER expose my lady parts in public. There's ways to do it to make sure the baby gets fed and you keep your parts and pieces to yourself and there's ways to do it just to prove some weird point that "hey, look, I have a baby and I can nurse!" //back to food chain discussion |
Who eats at places like this??? Oh yeah the people that shop at wal-mart.

As far as kid's meals go, Friday's has given us the best bang for the buck. |
Oh yes, in the Applebees not too far from me, they put kids to sleep by putting booze in their sippy cups
2-Year-Old Served Margarita In Sippy Cup ANTIOCH, Calif., June 15, 2007(AP) Kim Mayorga was confused when her 2-year-old started making funny faces and pushing away the apple juice he had ordered at Applebee's. The explanation came when she opened the lid of the sippy cup and was hit by the smell of tequila and Triple Sec. The restaurant staff accidentally gave Julian Mayorga a margarita Monday. He grew drowsy and started vomiting a few hours later and was rushed to the hospital. "I wasn't going to make a big deal about it," the mother told the Contra Costa Times on Thursday, "but then he got sick." The apple juice and margarita mix were stored in identical plastic bottles, and the manager mistakenly grabbed the margarita container to pour the boy's drink, said Randy Tei, vice president for Apple Bay East Inc., which owns the franchise restaurant and nine other Applebee's in the San Francisco Bay area. The Mayorgas will be reimbursed for their medical bills, and Tei said the franchise group's restaurants will no longer serve apple juice and margaritas in similar containers. "We absolutely believe it was an honest mistake," Tei said. The serving appeared to have been accidental, Antioch police Lt. Pat Welch said. Mayorga said her son is now doing fine. She said the company has been very apologetic and offered free meals, but she added, "If they think I'm going back there, they're ridiculous." (I used to love their happy hour) |

I do like the Aztec Chicken Salad (when they have it)
but other than that, Applebees is just blah. I'll take Chili's over Applebees anyday. and the only other thing I have to say is MMMMMMM Olive Garden. |

Applebee's is OK. It's the "have a beer with dinner" place nearest my house so sometimes I just end up there out of not wanting to schlep anywhere else. I can't see making more of an effort than that to get to one though.
I agree w/ honeychile on Denny's. Dirty, gross food and terrible service. |
