Order of the Pink Garter?

Hi ladies! I've been hearing bits and pieces here and there about a ceremony for Phi Mu's significant male friends, boyfriends, husbands, etc. Can anyone tell me more about it, or point in the direction of the text to the ceremony?

I sent you a PM. I have it for anyone who might want it. PM me, and I will email it to you privately :).

Phi Mu Aurora 09-30-2007 11:48 PM

This sounds really cute, I'd like to learn more about it, too. :)

BabyPiNK_FL 10-01-2007 02:09 AM

me too. i was just given a TKE lavalier by my boyfriend, if it's something that's manageable i'd love to do it for him.

sageofages 10-01-2007 09:34 AM

I have the ceremony. I am not going to post it here though.

PM me with your EMAIL ADDRESS and I will send it to you privately.

scbelle 10-01-2007 09:48 AM

Wow, that sounds like such a cute idea! (sorry to crash)

I was searching army terms and found this thread. I am in the Order of the Yellow Garter... it's for wives of cav soldiers... obviously different from y'alls, but cute nonetheless!

HottieTottie_ 04-28-2009 09:21 PM

I know that this post is old, but if anyone sees it and has the info for it could they PM me with it? And/Or I will give you my e-mail address... this sounds REALLY cute and i'd really like to know about it!

GC2theEC 05-02-2009 05:43 PM

I'm also definitely interested in learning about this! So, if anyone could please PM me, I'd appreciate it!

PhiMu_Lindz 05-07-2009 12:18 AM

I would also love to see it if anyone gets their hands on it! :)

BabyPiNK_FL 05-07-2009 08:56 PM

I have it around somewhere. I'll do my best to pass it on to those interested.

If this is a ritual PLEASE be careful who you are sending it to. There are plenty of perps on Greekchat and we don't need Phi Mu info being passed around.

If you are truly interested, contact your chapter president and I'm sure she can get the info on it. PLEASE NEVERRRRR EVERRRR pass around ritual information on the web. You never know who you are dealing with!

BabyPiNK_FL 05-12-2009 12:44 PM

It is not in the ritual book. It is something you'd probably do at a wedding. Do you really think Mary Mary and Martha (or any lady that was around between 1852-c.1950s would make something called "The Order of the Pink Garter" up?)

There's a reason why she's sending it privately, and she's been a Phi Mu far longer than you. (lol sage sorry for the "far longer" part, I could probably say the same as well)

allyxoxo 05-26-2009 07:21 PM

I'd love to hear about it too. My chapter got reinstated at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2001. One of our members heard bits and pieces about it from her mom who is also a Phi Mu, but she wouldn't disclose too many details. I don't think her mom likes the boy much though, so if I could also have it sent to me, just for personal use, that would be fabulous.
:)

PhiMuMagnolia 07-08-2009 12:22 AM

if anyone could send this to me privately on greekchat, that would be awesome! we've had a lot of girls get lettered and/or engaged in the past two years, and those sisters have often talked of showing the same appreciation for their significant others!!

LIOB!

Rayosp00 11-23-2009 09:52 PM

Hi Everyone......again I'm a few months behind the last post but If any one has it please send it to me too! I've seen it before and it's nothing bad....actually more humorous than anything else. No Rituals are being exposed I promise!

-Sandy

DeltaEtaKP 01-08-2010 08:44 AM

I would like this, too!

LionHugs07 02-24-2010 02:07 AM

I've tried contacting the current chapter president of my chapter, and the adviser and no one in my area knows about this tradition. Only bits and pieces, but nothing really useful. I'd really appreciate it if someone could send me the info (PM). I'm engaged and it sounds like something I'd love to do at my wedding :)

Never fear! I assure you, the Order of the Pink Garter is NOT Phi Mu ritual. It's a wonderfully goofy ceremony that was made up to "initiate" husbands (and sometimes boyfriends) into their life with a Phi Mu--it doesn't reveal any of Phi Mu's Ritual at all.

The reason Pam was sending it out privately is probably because, even though it's NOT Ritual, it's not something the whole world needs to be able to get their hands on. Like our official signature, though, it's not critical that it be kept secret.

P.S. - Only our Pledging, Initiation, Closed Founders' Day, and Closed Memorial services are truly secret (and even then, Pledging isn't totally secret, but that's neither here nor there). The Open Founders' Day, Open Memorial, 3-D, and I *believe* Ribboning services are also found in our Ritual. The Mother's Pin ceremony is an official ceremony, but it is not found in our Ritual. (At least that's how I remember it, having been my chapter's Ritual Chair for 4 of my 5 years in college, five years ago.)

BabyPiNK_FL 02-26-2010 04:55 PM

You are correct regarding Mother's Pinning.

prttypancake 03-01-2010 02:34 AM

If someone could send me the info I would really appreciate it! I'm a GammaDelta chapter alum getting married April 2012 in Pensacola Beach, FL and I've been searching all over for fun ways to incorporate Phi Mu into the festivities.

sirfidelfan 03-04-2010 05:53 PM

If someone has it I would REALLY love it as well. My boyfriend proposed to me in front of the whole chapter so he clearly knows how important Phi Mu is to me! :) My chapter sings one of our songs to the bride and groom at the wedding, but I would love to do something more. Please private message me! Thanks!

lochnesslives88 03-19-2010 11:41 AM

may i please also be sent the ritual? my chapter lost a lot of stuff a few years ago and i dont think anyone knows about "the pink garter" and we have a few girls getting married soon

steelerbear 03-30-2010 10:50 AM

lochness, are you saying your chapter needs the actual Ritual book? If so, your President and/or Adviser needs to contact Executive Office about it. If you're interested in the Pink Garter CEREMONY (NOT Ritual), try sending Pam (sageofages on the first page of this thread) a PM. I don't have the ceremony myself, otherwise I'd send it to you.

PM_Mama00 04-03-2010 03:23 PM

Please do not send Lochness anything online, open ceremony or ritual or whatever. Anyone who registers and their first post is about ritual is suspect.

I didn't even think to look at how many posts or how new Lochness was! Good call! :) Don't worry, though--I would NEVER, EVER post or send anything from our Ritual. (Pink Garter, though, not even being official Ritual...)

PhiMuPride 04-22-2010 10:11 PM

The Royal Order of the Pink Garter is widely known throughout many collegiate and also alumnae chapters. I've participated in the ceremony a few times and it is so much fun! Why don't you have your chapter leadership contact your area director or even your local alumnae chapter and ask for a copy? Use your Phi Mu contacts that you have easily available to you.

SaraAnn Phi Mu 04-27-2010 02:41 PM

if someone could send this to me too that would be great. u can send it to my email sara_G_0991@yahoo.com or send a message to me on facebook "SaraAnn Gueory Φ Μ"

Assuming that anyone was actually willing to send what might be ritual info to an internet stranger, posting your email or similar personal information on a public forum is rarely a good idea. That's why we have PMs here. ;)

PhiMuPride 04-27-2010 03:56 PM

All Phi Mu members have access to programs and information by simply using their area contacts and resources. You can even use technology by logging onto the members-only Bloom network or Leadership Center to request this stuff.

Let's do ourselves a favor and not just e-blast out materials to the first person of the day that asks for it. PMP

BabyPiNK_FL 04-27-2010 05:16 PM

Thanks for all the concern. I don't think anyone has any intentions of sending this to random people. I would like to reiterate that it is a "silly" but fun tradition (although I'm not sure where, I've never seen anyone do it) and is not apart of Phi Mu ritual, not even open ritual. Thank you.

thanks for the advice. im new to this site, not really sure what a pm is.

If in fact the Order of the Pink Garter is not ritual, which many Phi Mu's have said, would someone mind posting here on the thread? Every time I see this thread on the homepage, I get intrigued all over again. Thank you for your consideration.

Private Message. If you click on someone's user name, one of the options is to send them a PM. Or, look under the spot in the upper right of the screen where it says "Welcome SaraAnn Phi Mu."

Yeah, I figured it's not really real ritual, but since Phi Mus seem to have not wanted to post it, I figured it's private.

DeltaBetaBaby 09-08-2010 09:19 PM

I just PM'ed a few people, but I figured I'd also post the request here. I'm an old-timer, so most of you probably don't know me after a few years hiatus, but I was a forum mod back in the day. A sister is getting married this weekend, and just to be cheesy, her fiance gave her his letters last night, so I'd really like to respond in kind. If you have it, please PM me.

(Also, I'm happy to verify my identity via PM or over on Bloom. I know it's not ritual, but I think we keep it as a silly secret anyway)

PhiMuPinkRocks 06-21-2011 04:01 PM

My Carnation Sister is getting married in 2 weeks (July 9th) and I would really like to know as well. We have been trying to figure out exactly what it is, too. Our chapter recently closed, Rho Epsilon, and we have not been able to find out! Can someone please inform me so we can incorporate this! It would mean so much! Lion Hugs!!!!

DeltaBetaBaby 06-21-2011 04:18 PM

It's not ritual, but it's kinda like an inside joke. It's very silly and totally unofficial, so it's less about "OMGkeepthesecretwithyourblood" and more about not wanting it, for example, to show up in a google search. In fact, it's largely been restricted to alumanae, AFAIK.

In any case, I have it, and will PM it to trusted posters as required.

mia9748 03-19-2012 01:11 AM

Hey, I'm new here! I'm a sister from the Theta Gamma chapter down at FIU. I've already PMed someone but got no response so I figured I'd post it here to see if anything happens. As far as I know, no one from my chapter really knows about this tradition. I've never heard about it so maybe it hasn't made it down to South Florida? I'm not sure. Thanks <3

Hello sister! It should have made it down south because the first sister to post in this thread is an alumna of your chapter. I'm from the north and I know about it but, I don't know that much or I'd help you out. Sorry. Send BabyPink_FL a private message and I'm sure she could help!
