Recruitment for a very Nervous mama....
 

... ok, well im not literally a 'mama', but i'm really nervous! Right now I'm watching the 40 year old virgin HOPING to keep my mind off rush (It's not working)...

I am going to try to reveal as little possible in order to maintain ambiguity. Rush meeting is tommorro and I don't really know what to expect. They asked for my t-shirt size on the registration form. I wonder if that means we wear identical t-shirts on the first day.

The day after the meeting is Day 1! I won't be able to post until after Day 1 since I am still moving all my stuff into my new home and have no internet access, but I will definitely post right after Day 1!

In the meannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnwhile, I need to come up with code names! Here's some I like, let me know which--if any-- strikes your fancy!

the OC characters
sorority/frat names from that ABC show 'Greek'
the Hills/Laguna Beach characters
my Fav Fast Food places
Looney tunes characters

Kidding of course. I think you should use the groups from the show Greek. That would be confusingish, but still fun.

you will probably wear the t-shirt at some point during your recruitment process. on campuses that do t-shirts, some have the pnms wear them the first day of recruitment, others have the pnms wear them on philanthrophy day

At the University of Miami, they ask for the T-shirt sizes because together with the Bid on Bid Day, the PNMs get their GLS's t-shirt. They are told to wear a dark colored t-shirt to Bid Day. So they put on the the Bid Day shirt from their new GLO under their dark shirt. The Rho Gamma groups come up one by one and they take off the fake shirt all at the same time and the GLOs sun up to get their New Members. Its really cute because the NMs have one up on the GLOs.

The Rho Gamma's do the same thing by the way. They wear their GLO's shirt under their Rho Gamma shirt and they reveal after their PNM group reveals. It seems as though the Rho Gammas are more excited to re-join their GLOs then the NMs are!

Anyway, the point of my very long winded story is to provide another thing for you to ponder as to why they asked you for your t-shirt size. :cool:

First let me say how impressed I am you were posting at 5:06 in the morning... you MUST be nervous!

Second, I'm going with Daffy too because my bet is that they get unfairly pegged as the "mean" girls with bad personalities that lose their cool too quickly. Plus, everyone knows Bugs is probably a "pajama" house so where's the fun rooting for that?

DAY 1
 

Sorry for the delay…. No internet still. But I am sooooooo happy to see all the comments! Ok, so day 1=EXHAUTING. I definitely wore distinct jewlery to stick out. I hope it works. So Day 1 begins....
Daffy: I met a girl with many of the same interests as I did. I was also surprised to see many of the girls with piercings. It was ok, but I didnt r4eally feel the conection that most people say they have. I liked the house though. The philanthropy is right up my alley and the girls seem like they all like to have fun.
Wile E. Cotote: This house didn’t start off well. That definitely reflected the conversations after. The first girl I talked told me about her boyfriend doing drugs. I felt really uncomfortable. I did not like that at all. I was so thrown off because it was important for me to present myself like a lady and I did not know how to react after that conversation. Anyone I talked to after did not get my 100% since I kind of turned off (if that makes sense).
Porky: I talked to a few girls and our conversation was good. But I found myself getting bored. I was searching for conversation. I knew that i liked them since we had a good conversation flow, but I was not feeling it.
Bugs: I liked the decorations in the house. It was pretty. It was wierd because I totally froze when talking to some girls, but then everything went very smoothily with other girls.
Elmer Fudd: Their singing was cute, but reallllllly long! It must have been at least 15 min before we were paired to talk to a girl. Overall this party seemed really long.
Yosemite Sam: I haven’t heard much about this house, but everything really clicked. I was very surprised! We talked about brit’s vma performance and other celeb gossip.
Okay, I know this was brief, but I really liked all the sorority’s in one way or another. I felt like all the girls were similar. I met a girl in each house that I had some sort of similarity with. So when it came down to it, I chose my top four based on how I liked the t-shirts they were wearing. I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW, I should be figuring out what I see as ‘home.’ But I couldn’t do that. We only spent around 30-40 min at a house, so I knew I could not pick set my heart somewhere yet. I ranked:
Bugs
Daffy
Yosemite Sam
Porky

It was really disappointing for me to see so many girls that were going through recruitment with me talking so horribly about some of the sororities. Girls kept asking me which I liked and what I was going to pick, but I kept just saying that I don’t know or I don’t remember because I didn’t want to get caught up in what they were talking about. It makes me sad that some of these girls could be in my potential pledge class. I wish they would have just all made their decisions on their own rather than relying on what others had to say.... sorry for the rant.

sad... I was really pulling for the coyote...

And Nervousmama, if that was a "rant", it was the most controlled rant I've read on these boards. You have got to be one of the most level-headed PNMs I've ever heard of -- I wish we could replicate you and put you through all of our recruitments on all of our campuses! Keep having a good time and keep that open mind! You will surely find the house that's for you. Can't wait to hear the next results!!!! :) :)

I went to daffy first....

Daffy- They were all about their philanthropy! Which I love because I defitely want to get involved. One girl was talking to me about someone passing away very close to her and I was telling her the same thing about someone passing away in my family that was very important to me. While I was telling my story (there were 2 girls), one girl kept talking to the people on the side of her and laughing. it kind of mad me sad because it was a very hard story for me to tell. The girl that was listening had to nudge her to stop... :(

Next came Yosemite Sam- I talked to the same girl I talked to about celebrity gossip etc. I really wished I could meet more girls because I wanted more feel from the houses.... but I'm happy I got to talk to that one girl more. She's a 4th year so it made me sad that she would be leaving the house as I just got into it... ya know?

Now Bugs...GORGEOUS decorations again! I definitely talked to alot of girls and got a great vibe from these girls. Everyone was so attentive and genuinely interested in what I had to say... :)

Finally Porky. When I walked in, one girl came to me and told me how this one other girl talked about me alot. She said that the girl was so sad the entire day when she didnt see me coming through the doors. She knew I was comming but didnt know exactily when. I eventually saw that girl and gave her a big hug. She is an amazing woman and I am blessed to have her think of me like that. Anyway, though I loved the girls I was talking to, i talked to the same ones I talked to the day before and I really wanted to get a feel for the entire house/

So I had to pick my top 2....

I know alot of you might wonder why not Porky/Yosemite Sam. In all honesty, I got to meet ALOT of girls from Bugs and Daffy and not so many in the other 2. I knew I would feel comfortable with many of the girls in Bugs and Daffy. So I choose them.

Someone should educate that rusher that no matter how pressed you are for conversation topics, talking about your boyfriend and his drug habit is never a good idea with anyone you just met. That would definitely have thrown me for a loop.

Yeah, and not just for recruitment.

I remember we were given a whole list of topics to revert to when convos went dead and they did NOT include your boyfriend's drug problem. Sure it can get awkward but there are soooo many more things to talk about. When I got truly desperate, I'd talk about her classes and what she thought of the school. :o
