My cheerleader's Rush @ SDSU!!!
 

So I'm going into my 4th year coaching a high school cheerleading squad. Last year one of my graduates went Alpha Phi at Santa Clara University, but unfortunetly she didnt keep me informed. This year one of my graduated girls is attending San Diego State and is in the process of recruitment right now! I think Im more excited then her...well not really, but its amazing to see these girls grow and mature during high school and now add an amazing new chapter to thier lives.

Anway...she went to round one last night. She said she had an amazing time. She is going through this by herself but met some nice girls in her group. She said she had some really great conversations with some houses. But since she didnt see every house she knows it may be to early to tell. Tonight she visits the remaining houses. I told her to keep me updated. Im excited for her.

to bad there is no Alpha Gam down there :( But i wish her the best of luck.

Ooooo, the first california story! I'm excited.

We had a Berkeley story (but it wasn't openly identified as such) but SDSU recrutiment is exciting nonetheless!

Boy, do I know that feeling! When I was there, Love Library was a brand new library, and the school went through 3 names by the time I finished my junior year.

hey girls help me out with a few SDSU row hopping questions my Alpha Phi buddy asked the other day but I didn't know the answers.

was Delta Zeta in the former AGD house? will they be back in the house they were in before when they come back this fall? where did ADPi go when SAE came back on campus? and is DG currently in the former Chi Omega house?

I think DZ is taking SK's house since SK closed last year. Or do you mean where did DZ live before they left?

DG is in the old Chi O house and I do believe DZ is going into the Sigma Kappa house. AD Pi? They are not on campus, did you mean AEPhi? ( I am not sure about where they are located)

Well, since you are asking about closed chapters, it would be helpful if you specified which house was which or to what time period you are refering. :) I have no idea where Chi O or AGD used to be since I wasn't working here at that time.

I have not heard anything regarding where DZ plans to reside.

The "DG" house (just off the corner of College and Montezuma) is now owned by Sigma Pi as an additional residence. DG moved over to the old SK house on Montezuma.

AEPhi does not have an "official" house. Though they are using a house on Montezuma right next door to DG/SK.

When ADPi closed, they were using an old fraternity house next door to the taco stand on the corner of College/Montezuma (across the street from Sigma Chi). If I recall correctly, it may have been the old ZBT house.

ADPi used to be in the SAE house but I wasn't sure if they had moved somewhere else before they left campus. My friend is an Alpha Phi from SDSU but lives out of state now. We were talking about all the changes to campus and she was wondering where they all are now but since I did not know exactly where all the sororities were originally I wasn't much help!
I was at SDSU for a concert (jazz of course!) and the campus looks really modern. still a lot of concrete but lots and lots of new buildings and student facilities.

Isn't AEPhi using the house right next to Theta? The house next door to DG/SK is AXO if i recall correctly. :)

Ok so I talked to her last night...she said she is having so much fun. she visited 4 houses last night and really liked 2. I know a girl in one of the houses but unfortuntly they didnt get a chance to talk. They have tonight and tomorrow off for Rosh Hashana so I will know more on friday. From what i understand there are over 700 girls participating, she says it nuts!

That is so funny. It sounds like the off-row houses at OSU. ABC use to be in the XYZ house, but they left campus. Then when ABC re-colonized, they wanted to be on 15th so the only space left was to park a RV in front of the DG house.

Wait, wait - I'm trying to get the visual on this: a sorority rushes in an RV? What do New Members do, call home and say, "Hey, Mama, are you going to be home around 4pm? I'm bringing the sorority house over..... No, the actual house, not just the women!" :confused:

I think Kelly was referring to the house across the street (to the left) of SK/DG, which was previously Phi Psi. Around 2000/2001 ADPi was in the small apartment complex behind SK. They had the entire building from what I understood. They'd would rush in a tent in the front yard.

What's sad is that I don't recognize the front of SK because any time I'd visit I'd go through the back door! :) I don't think I went through the front door a single time.

I hope she finds the house that she wants :)

No, I was just mistaken. :p It's kind of silly considering I see these houses everyday. I advise AXO and GPhiB, my colleague advises AEPhi, and another colleague used to advise ADPi!

Don't know if DZ was around after I left SDSU and then went dormant again or if they have been dormant for a very long time. When I went through rush, they were in the house across the street from KD, next door to the old Chi O house.

They are all really different- this neighborhood is full of mid century modern houses (single family homes) built after WWII . Some have been restored and are very cool.

not to be debbie downer but maybe we can start a new thread about the musical houses at SDSU....

Oh, and thanks thetaprincess, i hope she finds a house she likes too. im just happy that she is going through it and is having a good time. it seems shes going into it with a good head on her shoulders. Shes kept an open mind about every house and really following her heart. Im excited to hear how the rest of rush goes!!!

I don't think I ever knew which "old" fraternity house it used to be, but if it helps people place it any, it shared the alleyway behind the taco stand and the Alpha Phi house. :) I can remember a few times trying to figure out where to park back there in just my short time with the chapter before it closed :cool:

Ok I finally talked to her! Sorry I dont have cute names for all the houses...but she got invited back to every houses last night. She is having a wonderful time but really loves a certain house more and more. She has liked them from day 1 but has been really good open minded about every house in given all a fair chance. She is going to house tours today and will give me more of an update tonight. I belive pref is tomorrow. So im crossing my fingers for her!!!

Yes, preference is tomorrow and Bid Day is on Monday. Bids will be issued between 3:30 pm and 5:15 pm with chapter activities beginning at 5:30 pm. Remember, these are west coast times.

Ok shes curling her hair and getting ready...pref begins in a half hour!!! Im super excited for her!!! She really loves everything about rush and says its so hard making decisions. But she does have a favorite :) I think the max pref parties she can attend is 2. Shes gonna call after pref and let me know how it goes. I told her to have fun and wear water proof mascara ;)

Side note- rush begins tomorrow for San Francisco State....Im not helping this year. Way to much going on. But I wish Alpha Phi, Phi Sig and of course Alpha Gam lots of luck!!!!

So I just got off the phone with her. I wish she was posting her story, it would be sooooo much better coming from her. You all would be sooooo impressed. She unfortunetly got cut from her 1st choice. When I said "awww im sorry" she replied in such a postive tone "its ok, everything happens for a reason, im really happy with the 2 houses i got to attend tonight" I was qutie surprised, to be honest. Most girls are extremely upset but not this her. She was soooo excited with the 2 tonight. She liked one a little more then the other but would be happy with either. She also got to finally meet the girl i know ;) Either house are great organizations and would be perfect for her. She finds out tomorrow at 3:30...after panhel and rho chi revealing. Im sure shes going to be busy with her new sisters but once she finds out I will let you all know. :)
