MTV VMA's 2007

I'm not going to lie. I'm only watching because I want to see the "comeback" performance by Britney.... :p

lauralaylin 09-09-2007 06:15 PM

I'm tuning in about 15 minutes early just to see Brit-Brit. I hope she blows the roof off, but I'm not holding my breath.

However, if Justin hits that stage with her, well, all bets are off.

texas*princess 09-09-2007 09:09 PM

Sooo honestly, I was really trying to root for the girl... but, the performance was really lackluster (much like the track)

She was obviously lip-syncing .... her outfit... soooo scary. She has obviously not gotten back to her pre-baby weight... and I'm not saying that in a mean way, I think it's great that she's not a size -2 and looks a little more "normal" but her body was part of her appeal before the whole marriage thing.

The dance moves were not as good as they used to be at performances (judging by past TV performances) ... she didn't really look like she wanted to be there... everything was pretty sloppy and slow.

I really wanted her to blow everyone away, but that was not a "comeback" at all :(

bamabelle99 09-09-2007 09:11 PM

I just watched the trainwreck that is Britney Spears...her performance was HORRIBLE...her lip synching was bad...her weave is horrendous...and she looked incredibly uncomfortable on stage. Plus, the song sucks.

*And more power to the mother of two for wearing the outfit that she had on...and she looks great for a woman that has two kids, but she is nowhere close to looking like she did pre-kids.

LPIDelta 09-09-2007 09:12 PM

I liked the song when I first heard it--still do. But she blew her chance tonight. She was not prepared, she didn't give it her all...and you shouldn't wear an outfit like that unless your body is slammin. Sad--because everyone likes a good come back story, and I am still rooting for her--but this was not it.

BuckeyeTriDelta 09-09-2007 09:19 PM

Her dance moves seemed stiff, like she was afraid to move.

cutie_cat_4ever 09-09-2007 09:20 PM

I also thought the performance was horrible!!

Wrong outfit, she should have worn something that covers her flaws at least (in entertainment standards that is). And she didn't even try to dance, it's like...she lost the momentum and energy...it was disappointing, and she lip synced of course.

Kanye West's "Stronger" performance was way better, lol, that should have been the opening act you know?

my stomach hurts fromthe awesomely bad performancethat just went down.

1. the hair, while we know its not yours, can you get a stylish that knows what's going on?
2. she was definitely thicker... britney sho had some azz huh!
3. that outfit wouldve rocked for her 5 years ago but now its awkward onher
4. speaking of awkward, the dancing... she looked confused like she lost her place
5. lipsinging- dont we deserve better?
6. did you see 50's facialexpression? PRICELESS!

and Sarah Silverman was ATROCIOUS.

if i was the executive producer ofthis show, id hope and pray i had a job tomorrow.

LPIDelta 09-09-2007 09:28 PM

I am pretty sure Britney has always lipsynched the VMAs (could be wrong) but it was never this obvious. She was really just going through the motions.

She was probably scared out of her mind. Too bad she couldn't harness the energy.

(On a mostly unrelated note, I saw that Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg won a Creative Arts Emmy for the "Dick in the Box" song/skit on SNL last December).

gphiangel624 09-09-2007 09:32 PM

Some of her rehearsal video is on TMZ.com and she seemed much more into the dancing, like she knew what she was doing. Something was wrong with her during the actual performance - she seemed lost in her eyes at the start.

i'm not a fan, never have been, but I was hoping she could at least pull it back together a LITTLE. And what happened to the Cris Angel magic thing she was supposed to do??

And was there something on her lip?? I couldn't help but notice it looked like she had a very prominent blemish...

texas*princess 09-09-2007 09:34 PM

Just for fun....

Some past VMA appearances:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=iGZbR_83H8Q

http://youtube.com/watch?v=lBeID7g5bNo

http://youtube.com/watch?v=FKrmfvqlr0o

http://youtube.com/watch?v=_yMfqcVa-mk

I'm surprised this performance isn't on YouTube yet... it took like 2 seconds for the Miss Teen South Carolina clip to go up :p

I was hoping Cris Angel would do a magic trick and make Britney from 2000/2001 come back.

I am definitely not a Britney fan but I was really rooting for her tonight. She needed to do well. She bombed. I think it's over for her.

lmao...

My roommates and I keep going back and forth between tonight's performance (thank you Tivo) and her performance a few years ago on the VMAs... seriously, what happened?

ZTAngel 09-09-2007 09:59 PM

TMZ has the video up.

BuckeyeTriDelta 09-09-2007 10:17 PM

Did anyone catch what Tommy Lee was saying to Pam? I couldn't catch it...

texas*princess 09-09-2007 10:19 PM

It's Britney, B****!

Mz_Doc 09-09-2007 10:25 PM

Totally loved Chris Brown's performance!! That boy can dance!! Best of the night...so far anyway.

JennRN 09-09-2007 10:39 PM

I watched just to see Britney-I was so hoping she would come out and kick ass!! I do like the new song, but her lip syncing was so bad, and she looked like a 7 year old at a dance recital. Oh, that was awful. She had zero energy and I can't decide if she just looked bored or really stoned.
So bad.
Trainwreck!!

AnonAlumna 09-09-2007 10:45 PM

My hubby and I were sitting there going...'Okay, any minute something cool is gonna happen...oh, here it comes...nope!

irishpipes 09-09-2007 10:48 PM

Was she just unsteady in those boots, or was she intoxicated? She seemed to almost fall twice - once at the beginning and again when the guy helped her on the stairs.

ADqtPiMel 09-09-2007 10:50 PM

That was one effed up awards show.

Taualumna 09-09-2007 11:04 PM

Britney needed a different outfit.....her glitkini isn't right for her shape.

Yep. I agree w/ irishpipes that she seemed drunk/stoned/something.

The video for "Toxic" is on ondemand right now, so I pulled it up and watched it...as goofy as that song is, it was catchy, and she looked fantastic in the video and gave a great performance. It's depressing to realize that was only 4 years ago.

Not only should the exec. producer go, but everyone in charge of the teleprompters, camerashots, everything...

Looks like the parties outside the main room are a LOT more fun. Maybe that's why everyone in the main room seems to be having a terrible time - they know it's more fun elsewhere.

MTV- take a cue from Justin and start actually playing more videos...

jitterbug13 09-09-2007 11:24 PM

Britney...SMH. I was rooting for her but she was struggling. And 50's expression was priceless. And her stylist and hairdresser need to be fired because it is a shame they had her on TV looking like that.

I agree with Justin...Show more videos!!!! But on the flip side, people want BET to show less videos.

Chris Brown and Alicia rocks!!!! And everyone knows how much I love Kanye. :D :D

And Jimmy Kimmel left his wife for that corny woman? Jamie was 50 million times funnier than her!

Some of the live performances were too short. I wished they would have shown more.

THIS WAS THE WORST VMAs EVER!!!!!!!!  Go back to NY, have it at Radio City and stick to what you know. The show really didn't need changing. Stick with what you know.

ETA: Who got Dr. Dre out of hiding? Can they also get Eminiem out of hiding too? And tell them to hide 50?

tld221 09-09-2007 11:57 PM

my thing is: will mtv realize that it bombed?

LatinaAlumna 09-10-2007 01:47 AM

^My thoughts exactly. Everyone involved should be fired.

I'm so sure. It's all over the news already. Plus Timbaland said he didn't want her again and again. I'm more than sure he'll say "I told you so" after this. MTV will have no choice but to realize it. I just think that they (along with thousands of Americans) really wanted to see her pull off a decent comeback. Instead, we were all left with the sad realization that she's just too screwed up of a person now for that to happen.

Exactly. Enough talk about Britney already. If anything, that performance was an omen of what was to come. I tried to keep track of the number of awkward moments, but I lost count.

This was no 'awards show' -- I'm surprised they even handed out awards because it seemed like they'd be in the club/suite panning a shot to whoever was performing at that time. I really liked Justin's Southern Hospitality room, but instead of 20 short clips of people performing, they should have just selected a few and put them on the mainstage. Whoever decided to put Alicia Keys up there needs a pat on the back.

This was, by far, the worst MTV awards show ever. I can't believe how much hype they put leading into it.

kddani 09-10-2007 06:33 AM

I think it was pretty brilliant of MTV to have Britney open. Look how many more people watched it- I never watch it live. If she failed- great, we all get to see a further trainwreck. If she did great, it would be her comeback. It was a no lose situation for mtv!

SydneyK 09-10-2007 08:14 AM

I'm surprised I'm actually commenting on this thread, as I pretty much loathe Britney. But, I just read this article:
http://tv.yahoo.com/show/35145/news/...ards__ER:12574

It refers to Britney as "embarrassingly out of shape." Yes, I realize she isn't the same size as she was pre-baby (as others here have said), but I think "embarrassingly out of shape" is a bit extreme. (Of course, I'm a mother of two who'd love to be Britney's size, so I'm not entirely objective.)

nikki1920 09-10-2007 08:43 AM

Britney: *smh* WTF was that?

Justin: I *heart* you for telling MTV to play more videos. And YEAH that you won four moonmen.

Chris Brown: WOW.

Alicia Keys: WOW!!!!!!!!

Sarah Silverman: who are you and BOO.

MTV: I used to look forward to the VMAs. This year's show was sloppy, the lighting was horrible and I was NOT impressed. Do better next year.

TMZ said something about her looking like a house.

Yes, she's not what she used to be when she was 18...but Jesus H. Christ, unless you're a size 00, I don't know how you get away with calling her a house...especially since she had TWO kids. I doubt even Nicole Richie would call Brit fat.

nikki1920 09-10-2007 08:57 AM

I think she looked great, especially for having two kids. I turned the channel when Sarah started talking. I just dont think she's funny.

The Washington Post disagreed.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...090902135.html

angelove 09-10-2007 09:02 AM

Britney looks good for having two kids. She does NOT look good enough to wear what she was wearing last night.

PenguinTrax 09-10-2007 09:15 AM

That was painful to watch..she looked so uncomfortable with the whole setup, it was like she was checking out the audience just to see their reaction.

I agree that it probably wasn't a good choice for national television...but let's face it...if she were just a "normal" person walking down the beach in a bikini like that, no one would think twice about it, and I doubt "fat" would ever come to mind.

lovelyivy84 09-10-2007 09:42 AM

Yeah she definitely looks good, just not good enough to wear that, and on tv, where you automatically look 10 lbs heavier. Good lord.

And NO ONE at MTV is getting fired- this is the first time anyone has talked about an MTV VMA ceremony in YEARS (note: not me, I haven't seen it, just the pics), much less watched and re-watched it, all because of her performance.
