New iPODS Announced....
I know what I want for Christmas!!
What, you hadn't heard this was coming? Apple rolled out a lot of new stuff today. Welcome Apple fanboys and haters alike. Here's the gist of what's new with the iPod, iPhone, and iTunes, straight outta Apple! Ringtones Come to iPhone - For an extra dollar you can turn 30 seconds from a song you buy from iTunes into a ringtone for your iPhone. Not every song, mind you, but about 10 percent of the iTunes catalog. Outrageous ripoff or brilliant marketing scheme? You be the judge. iPod Shuffle Available in New Colors - $79 gets you 1GB of screenless music. Now in red, silver, blue, lighter blue, and greenish blue. Redesigned iPod Nano - This is the device that was widely leaked last week. The new Nano is shorter and more squat, but with a larger display. A new UI shows you cover art and extras on the right side of the screen (you can get a sense of this in the pic to the right), but the operation of the Nano is largely the same, with the traditional scrollwheel where you expect it. Still the same capacities: 4GB ($149, silver only) and 8GB ($199, colors available). iPod "Classic" Gets Tweaked - Now known as the "iPod Classic," the old hard-drive-based iPod gets upgraded to 80GB ($249) and 160GB ($349) models, and it's a bit thinner than previous models, too. The 30GB model is gone. Same UI as the Nano. Introducing the iPod Touch - As everyone expected, a new iPod with the iPhone touchscreen interface arrives. It's the iPod Touch, basically an iPhone (almost exactly the same size) without the phone (see the pic above... looks exactly like the iPhone, only it's not). It's also the first iPod with Wi-Fi, which you can use to watch YouTube videos and browse the web. $299 (8GB) and $399 (16GB). (Wait, where's your 16GB iPod Nano?) iTunes Goes Wi-Fi - Now you can give Steve Jobs more of your money, without even having to use a computer. iPod Touch and iPhone users can browse the full iTMS selection wirelessly and purchase music without a PC. No wireless sync from the looks of it. iPhone Price Cut - 8GB model now $399. The 4GB iPhone? Dead! clikc the link so u can see what they look like: http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/40512 |

It's true...the Iphone is an overgrown iPod!!! those CROOKS |
The iPod touch is 400$ for 16 gb's.
If anyone buys this they are just dumb. I also heard iPhone has already dropped 200$ in price. |

Yeah.....but you can't get visual voice mail. Also, I'm fairly sure you can still only get an official plan through AT&T.

The iPhone uses GSM technology, so you have to use it with another GSM network. Most new networks I know of are using CDMA. TMobile is a GSM network.

or that there may already be a sex toy called iTouch... whatever explanation you like better. |

i dont own an ipod/itouch/utouch, etc. but i have a stroller on my baby registry that actually has a dock for an ipod! i didnt realize that until last week, so im thinking i might throw that on the list too!
that being said, that original ipod should be what, $19.99 now? |

tada.... The WiiTouch |
Why is anyone surprised?
Apple does this all the time with its products, but not nearly as dramatically. The best time to get an Apple product isn't right when it comes out, but right after the first upgrade (usually 3-6 months after it comes out). At that point, the price is the same, but you get more for your money. Also, don't most cellphones decrease in price after a few months? Remember how expensive the Razr was? |
I think that if you were dumb enough to run right out and WAIT IN LINE to buy the stupid thing, I'm glad Apple has your extra $200. I think they're stupid for issuing refunds. It's a gamble you take when you HAVE to have the latest technology RIGHT NOW.:rolleyes:

Most technology PERIOD drops in price a few months after it comes out....look how many people are kicking themselves after getting the PS3 only to have sony 1. discontinue one of the PS3 models 2. Drop the price, but you don't hear about them offering refunds...if you bought it when it first came out and all of a sudden the price drops a few months later...so sad too bad. Heck I got an HD DVD player about a month before the price dropped on it but because I got a good deal on the movies I bought along with it...o well...sometimes you win sometimes you lose. Most people 'have to have' some things first just to say they got it....that is the price of buying new tech. Also don't be too surprised when an upgraded version of the iPhone comes out in less than a year.....and don't come begging for more money then because you knew what you were getting! |
Upset colleague
One of my friends who wants one just told me that they just got off the phone with Apple and apparently they do NOT have a solid date of release as of yet....
I laughed..... beware steven jobs exmployees bearing gadgets |
If you have a baby in your life, this made me smile:

Every time I see iPOD written out, I think of some science fiction movie where I (we) get turned into some kind of POD clone or something.
Creepy. |

My 1st Impressions
Hey all
Well...it looks like Apple pulled another fast one on consumers. They initially announced that they new iPods wouldn't be available until the end of the month....well they lied...at least here in MD/DC/VA they did... One of my friends got thier hands on the new iPod touch and with a lil bit of pull so did I. So how is it? Well for one...it's SKIIIIINNY...almost 1/2 the size width wise of the ipod video so it fits pretty well into your pocket. It comes in a nice package which this time around does NOT include an iTunes installation disk. I guess Steve Jobs figues that most people who are getting this are already either iPod saavy and have iTunes or PC saavy and know how to find and download iTunes. I think that small thing right there may be a wrong move regardless if you have millions already using your previous iPod incarnations...never assume that new customers are saavy enough to get things working. O well that being said...how well does it work? VERY well....the touch screen really gives a feeling of going thru your collection and you can use it either in the regular mode or for better results, turn it on its side to thumb thru your music. If you are familiar with iPods, you will have no trouble using this one. The video on here is pretty cool but this is where it loses cool points. The problem on here is altho the resolution is pretty cool w/o noticable loss of framerates, in dark scenes, they look pretty dark and almost to the point that some scenes reflect back looking like a photo negative. The short term solution is to try to adjust the brightness screen to compensate and hopefully Apple may come up with a fix for that The Wifi? Pretty darned cool...one of the biggest features they held over from the iPhone will be a big draw for a lot of people and will set the bar up high for the next PMPs coming out. This is not a watered down browser, it's a full working version of Safari. So there is much one can do. And since iPod has introduced the ability to pinch and stretch screens, it makes it somewhat fun to navigate. Sometimes a page may load and clutters some of the objects up on the screen but otherwise, this is one the best ways to surf w/o having to resort to a laptop. The only other smalll complaint I have right now is for everything it has, it still looks like a delicate product, like it's one good drop away from being broken. I have a few thousand songs and a ton of video on mine and thankfully it's backed up but think of how pissed one would be to get one of these and it breaks within a few days because of an accidental drop. Altho Apple has released these already, they still haven't released any accessories to adequately protect these devices from a good drop, so if you have one, be careful.... Also, if you are a bit anal like me and want to keep up the gloss on it...it would hurt to buy a plastic screen protector, because altho the surface doesn't look like it will scratch easily, because of all the constant touching, the protector and a good cleaner will go a long way to keeping up this investment. My last wish for this would have been if Apple had added on an FM Tuner. That was one of the big ups that Microsoft's Zune had. A built in FM Tuner would really sell this but, with all the FM add ons they have for iPods now, my guess is that Apple didn't want thier 3rd party folks to lose money on that either. To sum it all up, if you want something cutting edge, I would say that this a great device, 16 GB is a start, I wish there was more but hey, it's a flash device so what can you do? Some are asking are you afraid of getting burned like early iPhone adapters did? All I can do is hope that I don't but I think these will move because altho they got them in early, many places are selling out as soon as they get them; even some of the store workers don't have any themselves and are relying on customer feedback to gauge how good these are. And one last note, parents, if you have kids, unless they are reaalllly responsible, I wouldn't recommend it just yet due to the issue of delicacy I mentioned above. Otherwise on a scale of 1 to 10....I give it an 8 |
Thought I'd bring this back up to the top. . .
For those of you that purchased the iTouch, are you still really liking them? My 13 year old hinted (actually, she just came out and said she wanted one!) at this the other day when the ad came on TV. I discussed this with dad, and we're thinking about giving her 2 year old one to him and we split the difference on the newer one (16g). I have no doubt that she'll take care of it. Decision isn't final and I've gone on the Apple website to check the prices, so we'll see. |
wow...it's hard to belive I have had mine for a whole year!
it's still holding up very very well and the firmware updates really made this to be a better device since it was released. The screen itself has proven to be very durable and scrtch resistant. As a matter of fact, I am using it now...LOL The only complaint I still have is that they need to improve the battery life. I have another device called a Cowon A2 media player and I have had that for almost 2 years and the battery life still lasts much longer than any iPod or Zune out there. |
Thanks for the feedback!

Love my Ipod touch. LOVE. Best investment this year.
