Sydney White (Amanda Bynes Movie)

This looks like it will be a good movie and Greek life is part of the plot.

http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809823940/details

Gorgeous freshman Sydney White has come to Southern Atlantic University to pledge her late mom's once-dignified sorority. But while surviving the pledging process wrought by evil campus witch Rachel, Syd finds out this version of sisterhood isn't remotely what it's cracked up to be. Banished to a condemned house on Greek Row, Syd finds her rightful place with a band of seven very socially challenged guys. With the help of one lovestruck frat boy named Tyler, she and the doofs campaign to take over student government. Fighting for the rights of misfits big and small, Syd organizes her gang to revolutionize the system, once and for all.

I'll be there.:D

I love this:

Also Known As: Sydney White and the Seven Dorks

Logline: A modern retelling of “Snow White” centering on a college freshman who pledges her late mother's once-dignified sorority, finds a new home with seven outcasts and attempts to transform the school's misguided social hierarchy.

I'll be there, too. :D

OrigamiTulip 08-26-2007 10:56 PM

I'll be there - several of the scenes were filmed on our campus, and a few of my friends are in it as extras.

You just sold me. I'll be there. Besides, I <3 Amanda Bynes (even though I'm definitely not a fan of her "Dear" clothing line).

clever... its funny cause i didnt make the connection til i saw thetrailer for the 3rd time. i was like "who's sydney white?"

what WOULDVE been clever, is if the title WAS Snow White, and Amanda Bynes' character's name been S__________,and her being Snow for short (ok, borderline corny, but "Sydney White" doesnt really jump out at me)

p.s. while im not a huge fan of Amanda Bynes, she needs to get her breakout role, fast. i mean, doesnt hollywood have some paraplegic cracked-out teenage mom who wants to be a dancer in South Central role for her?

CutiePie2000 08-27-2007 12:53 AM

This is great!

UCF. They filmed in the former Pike house and in the Rec Center.

I didn't know they filmed in the rec center. And I am having such a hard time (especially after driving by a couple of weeks ago) picturing anyone entering the Pike house, much less filming a movie there! They also filmed at Rollins, right?

What other movie have I seen with the "wicked Witch?" It was bugging me to not end that I couldn't figure it out with all the commercials I saw for it. Someone please help me figure it out.

SoCalGirl 08-29-2007 01:37 AM

Sara Paxton - She was in the last Haloweentown movie. Where she's brunette and goes to Witch U. She was the neighbor in Greetings from Tucson. She's Bill Paxton's niece. For more trivia I'd have to hit IMDB. :)

Ah Crap! She's going to star in The Party Never Stops: Diary of a Binge Drinker. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0843868/ I flipped through it at the store about a year ago. The writer has a whole chapter dedicated to her drunken sorority times. :(

She's the mermaid from Aquamarine.

She is also in "Darcy's Wild Life". You can see what productions she has appeared in by clicking this link here:

Thanks for the links. I didn't see any of those movies, but have seen her in "Sleepover."

True, but there wasn't really any other option for her, other than for her to try to join her Mom's sorority. However, it doesn't last for long (or there wouldn't be a movie!!) :)

The shirts make me think of KD, only because they're green (a KD colour) and also due to the "Kappa" in the name.

I saw that yesterday. I had to laugh because the Fraternity house has the letters EDF, but the girl, (who's supposed to be pledging "Delta Lambs" yet we never see her doing anything with them or wearing letters, etc) calls it the "Phi Sig House". The main character didn't end up pledging a sorority, so I guess they didn't stick much to the book?

The thing is, except for the time she drove into the fire hydrant, I don't really think HER drinking seemed THAT out of hand. Her friend's, obviously, but really, I don't think either one drank more often than the average college student.

CrimsonTide4 09-24-2007 09:55 AM

Saw it yesterday and I liked it!

??? Curious about this - the writer is a Matt Dorff (which does sound like an alias), and he's going to reminisce about his drunken sorority days?

Not HIS, but the the character that Sara Paxton plays. I saw the movie months ago when it came out and it was good. And she was an athlete in it, not a sorority girl.

Glitter650 09-24-2007 02:28 PM

I'M A DORK !

sigtau305 09-24-2007 03:07 PM

I'm planning to see it this saturday.

CutiePie2000 09-25-2007 12:52 AM

This auntie is taking her 10 year old niece.....maybe we'll let her Mom come too ;) (my oldest sister).

AlphaGamDiva 09-27-2007 09:20 AM

aah matt long (the prince). went to college with him and he's from where i live now. he student directed a show i was in, and of course was in a bunch of shows while there. he's also an SAE.

can't say i'm a fan, really, but it's good for WKU to have something other than our great mascot to be "known" for. he was in jack and bobby, the movie with nic cage (can't remember the title....he played the younger version of n.c.), some lifetime movie, and now this.

CutiePie2000 10-01-2007 01:32 AM

I saw this movie today with the niece. It was cute (my niece loved it). I was kind of surprised how the names of the "made up for the movie" sororities were not that far off from the names of actual NPC groups.
There was the "Gamma Phis", who were Gamma Phi Alpha (NPC=Gamma Phi Beta).
There was also Pi Beta Omega (I think it was "Omega", but it was Pi Beta something for certain), which is not far off from the NPC sorority, Pi Beta Phi. I had to smile when Tyler Prince said that "Gamma Phis" were very perky, b/c the Gamma Phi's were a very upbeat chapter at my alma mater at the time. :)

They also showed a house that had Delta Delta Zeta on it (which is close to either Tri Delta or Delta Zeta...you can choose!!). And the Kappa Phi Nus (which Sydney joins) are referred to as the "Legally Blondes", b/c they're all blonde except for Sydney.

Kappa Phi Nu house looked similar to the sorority house that was in that bizarre "Pumpkin" movie that I saw a while back.

http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Ss/0815244/...03_00427_S.jpg
I thought the pledge pins with the ribbons were cute and a somewhat realistic touch to the movie.

eta: In the beginning of the movie, Sydney's Dad and workcrew give her a "You're going away to college!" farewell card and it's signed by all of them. However, I SWEAR to you that it said "Your going away to college!".
Oy...I guess the production crew didn't know how to spell.

NPC at my school played the movie as a pre-recruitment event. It was definitely cute. Afterward, we had a discussion to dispel myths and let them all know that we don't creepily sing anyone to sleep. :p

haha nice!! yea the singing was majorly creepy

scbelle 03-25-2008 08:33 AM

ROTFL @ "creepy singing"... that was a weird scene.

I really liked the movie. One of my favorite scenes was when the Kappas were doing jumping jacks and being asked facts about the org... when Sydney was asked what the colors were and she said "green and white" and got hosed because they were "emerald and pearl" and she said, "Oh, I'm sorry. I haven't learned to speak priss yet." Hilarious.

I used that line on my hubby when we were talking about PiKA (his fraternity) and asked me if I knew the colors. I said, umm, I think they're garnet and gold... he said I was wrong. They are garnet and "old gold". I told him I hadn't learned to speak priss yet. I just about got hosed for that one. ;) I shouldn't patronize the hubby when we're doing dishes. :)

KDAngel 09-25-2008 03:42 PM

OK, so I'm months late but just watched this on Netflix -- totally cute movie.
