Greek Chat is Internet Crack
At first I just wanted to read what others had written. I didn't think it would hurt me. Then, I started thinking about posting. Just a few thoughts in reaction to what I was reading. I never meant to really post.
Eventually it happened. My will power broke and I posted. Once I started I couldn't stop. That doesn't even count the reading. My first all reading night started off with a midnight sign off. The next night it was 1:30a.m. "I'm never doing that again," I scoffed. I was right. I didn't stop at 1:30 am; itwas 2:30. There I sat, mouse in hand, finally satisfied after God knows how many threads. I was hooked and I knew it. I didn't control it, it controlled me. What was happening to UGADad's daugher? Were other rec writers having their rushees cut after one or two rounds? Will Classic Beauty drop out or pledge? And who are the stilettos? There was more to take in than I could handle. And here I sit, on my lunch hour, with a drink in one hand and a mouse in the other, trying to pretend like I can go for the rest of the day without logging in. How did it get so out of control? Sarah Ida Shaw, help me! |
LOL!
Yes recruitment time is our favorite time of year here at GC. |
LOL ... Does GC have GC-Anonymous set up yet?
You're not alone. I've been perusing GC for ages and only recently had the novel idea to actually register. I don't post much, but when I do it's like taking a hit of GC goodness. At least you held off until lunch. I've been on since I sat down at my desk this morning. :o |
No Joke! I am a terrible rush thread addict and you people are my best friends!!!
I iron one shirt and run to the computer. Iron another and run back. Takes me all day to do something that ought to take 45 minutes.....:) |
Ditto! Amen!
And may I add: THANK YA'LL for the hours upon hours of enjoyment! (Hours I REALLY do not have time to spend but have enjoyed immensely!) Now, if my husband would just try to understand...... A Southern Mom |

TRUST me....it is the "juice" that gets me through the work day....just another hit (of the new posts button)...then another...ok another. Just one more. And other another...another...another....ano... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh |
My productivity drastically diminshes during recruitment! I check first thing when I get in in the morning and continually check throughout the day. Esp. if something goes wrong at work its like I need a recruitment update to make things better.
I have problems. |
my name is OneTime, and i am a GC-aholic. don't believe it? look at how many posts ive had since APRIL!!!
lets face it, we are a special group of people with one thing in common...we are all opinionated Greeks. 99% of us have a strange sense of humor. i love reading things on here, laughing out loud, being asked if i am crazy, and repeating that cycle lol! its ok. admitting we have problems is the first step! |
Rush threads aren't as good as the ones from before.
That's all I have to say. GC's okay. |
First day on the site and I already feel addicted! I should be working, too. I feel so guilty!
|
Glad it's not just me
After D left for college (in another state) and I knew I wouldn't see her till Thanksgiving, as an "empty nester" I got addicted to the Rush Stories as well as the whole North/South differences and find the whole thing amazing. I wasn't Greek (except for Sigma Delta Chi for Journalists) so did not have a clue about Greek life. When I discovered GC I had to ask hubby "what is an SEC school"? Needless to say, I've learned a lot here from you guys. Sometimes I wake up and wonder, which houses the GC girls are going back to so I guess that constitutes me as an addict.
Oh, and my best friend from Charleston said I need to stop saying "you guys" and switch to "y'all" in order to make friends now that we've moved down South. |
Dear Esther,
We are here for you, sister! lol Recruitment season is the most interesting time of the year on Greek Chat. Wait until the first week of September when recruitment is taking place all over the country. When your own chapter is involved it is even harder to leave the computer. Welcome to the board. |
OP, I am ROLLING with laughter at how accurately you describe my life (or lack thereof!).
I thought I was the only one who said "honey, go on to bed, I'll be there in a minute" and snuck in well after midnight! Is it an addiction when you are PMing a random girl and asking the code name for Kappa in her recruiment story??? Why do I care if XYZ sorority made quota at State U??? Did anyone call it MS before they found GC? I'm expanding my internet vocabulary daily. |

Thank goodness I am not the only one. I think every pnm should have to read what not to do during recruitment. Schools should print out the advice and let these girls know how to act, what they should bring, etc. <<just my two cents>> But again I am glad I am not the only one addicted to this place! |

Me, too
I am super glad that it is not just me! My husband sees me on this website and just rolls his eyes, hahaha.
Just so you know, I am from the South, lived everywhere, with a military family , live in the South now, and I say y'all and you guys interchangeably. I think I'm on this site more everyday. Gotta love GC. ZTA 72 |
So do we say that we are friends of John?:);):D

Strength in Numbers
Thanks for those words of encouragment. It's good to know there are others out there like me;).
I do wonder why it's so addictive especially as one of you mentioned when we are PM-ing to find out about girls we don't even know but are emotionally invested in now. Rush must just be so intense that it burns itself into our psyche and we respond as we did after (for me) almost 30 years. Who can forget how exciting it was to get the cards back (and to show you how old i really am...they were computer punch cards. google it) you were hoping for and how much it hurt not to. I feel for these girls and moms when they are feeling those things now. A little heavy for 6AM :o but.... Now off to the next thread before anyone wakes up! |

OMG -- LOL!
I just told some people today that I basically "lost a week in my life" because of UGA rush and being ADDICTED to GC! I would NOT get off the computer!
My D thought and thinks I'm completely nuts as I copy and paste some threads into an email off to her! I was so proud of all the greek "lingo" I picked up on GC and used it whenever I could! And, now....you would think that my D still needed recs because I have found SO many connections for recs for her - albeit too late because I talk to EVERYONE about sorority rush at UGA!!!!!!! |
Our Very Own Reality Show
I think I've figured it out a little. GC is like one huge reality show. It's got the entertainment of American Idol, the brutality of Survivor, the glamour of The Hills, the exuberance of Dancing with the Stars, etc. Whatever your flavor, you'll find it on Greek Chat. At 2 in the morning.:)

This is so true! Thank you Esther, for putting it so eloquently!!!:):):) Now I have GOT to get off this thing!!!!! Well, maybe just one more thread................ |
