Sonic (Fast Food Restaurant)

We just got a satellite dish so we are able to get channels from other cities and states throughout the country. One commercial I keep seeing is for a fast food restaurant called "Sonic" and, I tell ya, those Sonic Burgers look goooooooooooood! We don't have Sonic here in Annapolis, Maryland and I was wondering if anyone had any idea what areas DO have it? Just curious and, yes, perhaps I DO have too much time on my hands! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif

We have sonics down here (Louisiana) and honestly, I'm not impressed. Whenever I've had a burger they're, they're soggy. The tater tots are good, but you can get those from the grocery.

For the money, there are much better fast food places out there http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

heatherh1981 05-02-2001 01:03 PM

Sonic has the best slushes.. Yes, we have them in Arkansas. I'm not to crazy about the food. the slushes are good...

heatherh1981 05-02-2001 01:05 PM

ohhhh a really cool thing is that they use roller skates to bring out your food..

bucutie02 05-02-2001 01:23 PM

I love Sonic. They used to use the rollerskates, but now they just wear tennis shoes. I love their cheeseburger with mayo and ketchup only. I also love getting their tots with cheese. Have any of you guys ever tried their Vanilla Cokes....they are very yummy. I also know you can get Orange or Chocolate Coke as well, but that doesnt sound too good. It doesnt have to be coke, it can be dr. pepper, diet coke etc. Another thing i love there is their Cherry Limeade. I havent ate lunch and this is making me hungry! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

I dont really see anything bad about Sonic except for the fact that they are always busy and take longer than most fast food places to bring you your order.

TechADPI 05-02-2001 02:33 PM

OK, I absolutely love Sonic! They are all over Texas from what I have seen. I go there all the time with my sisters. They have great burgers, but the best is their grilled chicken sandwich. They also have really good slushes.(The best is Cherry-Pina Colada)I've also got hooked on the M&M Sonic Blasts too.(It's like a Blizzard for those of you who have Dairy Queen) Anyways, It's a good little fast food chain.(And cheap!)

We have sonics down here in Alabama. I absolutely love their bacon cheeseburgers, YUM YUM!!!!

bucutie02 05-02-2001 06:15 PM

Ocean Waters are cool as well....except im left with a really blue tongue afterwards! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Ocean Water is obviously a blue drink, i dont know how they make it though- my guess would be sprite and someother flavor with blue food coloring? I dunno, sorry! Hopefully Lifesaver will tell you http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

SH80 05-02-2001 07:40 PM

Sonic is the BOMB!!!
Where I am from it is chosen over McDonald's, really! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

SH80 05-02-2001 07:42 PM

Del Taco is good also! Taco bell can't even reach it with a 15ft pole! Open 24 hours.

pirate00 05-02-2001 07:55 PM

Hey, there's a Sonic drive-in here in Greenville, NC (aka: G-vegas). The food is great and the service is good.

I have to disagree with my fellow Lousyannian...lol

They are GOOD!

If you want a burger with a different taste from the others, then this should be your choice. They remind me of that OLD fashioned taste....um um good! #2 burger, extra pickles, PLEASE! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Sisterplum 05-02-2001 08:54 PM

Yummy! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Sonic is headquartered in Edmond, Okla, or was, may be in Oklahoma City now. The use Frankie Avalon for many of their commercials. It is much like an A&W, they are all drive-ins with the menu on a sign, give the order through a speaker, and delivered by a car-hop. In small town Oklahoma the local Sonic is at the end of 'the drag' and is used as the turnaround point. Usually a Wal-Mart or grocery store at the other end is the other turnaround. They do make a pretty mean hamburger and tots.

DGPhoney 05-03-2001 12:20 AM

Hey Killarneyrose,
I am from Maryland too, and I see the sammme commercials, and no sonic, it looks good, but I don't think there are any in MD, but I believe there are some on the west coast, west coast people correct me if I am wrong.

They're here in Colorado and I've been to Sonics in Salt Lake City and Mesa, AZ

AlphaXiGirl 05-03-2001 10:14 AM

Yummmmmiiiiieeee!!! I had Sonic for dinner last night... try the new toaster sandwiches... and of course, SWEET TEA!!! That's hard to find in Texas.

MarvyG 05-03-2001 11:26 AM

I Love Sonic. I'm in LA too and I think its great. The hamburgers are big so you definitely get full. They just opened one by my house and it is always packed. I like their ice cream too. I will go for a Sonic Cookie Blast anyday.

dzrose93 05-03-2001 11:35 AM

We've got Sonic in Georgia. If you don't have a Sonic nearby and want something similar, try a Checkers or Central Park. (Of course, you may not have those chains either!) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Can't forget Taco John's - best fast-food mexican this side of Tasty Tacos, that's what i miss most about being on the east coast: potato oles.

As far as Sonic goes, I think the food is generally pretty gross really - the drinks are solid though

Sonic is now serving breakfast. Has anyone tried it? Like it?

MSKKG 06-03-2003 10:46 AM

We had a Sonic in my hometown in Mississippi when I was growing up--don't know if they are still around, but I think they are. There are Sonics in South Carolina. I like their food. My husband likes the Frito Chili Pies.

I've had their breakfast and enjoyed it. The slushes are good and so are the milkshakes. Love their onion rings, too.

The1calledTKE 06-03-2003 10:50 AM

Sonic is some good stuff, haven't tried the breakfast though.

CrimsonTide4 06-03-2003 10:55 AM

One just opened in Charlotte on US-74 but I have not been though. I have never had Sonic but I cannot wait to try it.

texas*princess 06-03-2003 11:03 AM

I haven't tried Sonic breakfast, but for the most part their food is good. I LOVE LOVE LOVE their slushes!!!

One thing about their slushes though, I've noticed if you get one during a "peak" hour, they are not so slushy. :(

I think my favorite food item there would be their grilled chicken wrap or their mozzerella sticks :)

aephi alum 06-03-2003 11:29 AM

I keep seeing ads for Sonic, which is really odd since there aren't any around here (Connecticut) ... I guess they're just advertising on the national level, but it seems like a waste of money if there are so many regions where they have no locations

The1calledTKE 06-03-2003 11:35 AM

Does your locations still have the waitresses on skates? The one's I have seen let the waitresses decide if they want to do the skates or not.

texas*princess 06-03-2003 11:36 AM

Of all the Sonics I have seen in Texas, I have never seen the waitresses with roller skates?

sigmagrrl 06-03-2003 11:38 AM

I live in MD as well, but I'm lucky b/c my mom lives in Raleigh and I can go to Sonic when I visit her...but I've actually never gone. I was thinking of going to see her next weekend....MAYBE I'll go??? If I do, I can bring you something back??LOL

It's only a 4 hour drive if you get desperate, Killarney !! :D

Wow really? Sonics was found to be like those 50's sty;e drive ups where the waitresses came out in skates. I seem them do it all the time at Sonics around here.

dzrose93 06-03-2003 11:49 AM

Sonic is okay, but I prefer Central Park. Much better burgers, IMO. :)

AZpinkkittie 06-03-2003 11:54 AM

The sonics in Tucson have the servers on skates, but it's optional. People were known to get broken ankles, and if you're not a goos akter, you're in trouble. Also, the sonic breakfast sandwiches are sooooo delicious, and they have these really yummy new ice cream, juice smoothie things that are awesome. I also love their coneys. Wow, I'm really hungry now...thanks a lot guys...

starang21 06-03-2003 12:41 PM

they're peanut butter and chocolate milk shakes are great....too bad i'm lactose intolerant. dammit!!

SigkapAlumWSU 06-03-2003 12:59 PM

For the west coast, we have one up in Spokane (eastern Washington) But I've never been to it. Maybe I'll have to go and try the food, the commercials make it look pretty good.

xok85xo 06-03-2003 01:17 PM

mmmm i could really go for some cheddar peppers & a cherry dr. pepper right now, or an ocean water..yum!

too bad we don't have sonic in NJ :(

DZTUBAGIRL 06-03-2003 10:37 PM

Oh my gosh, Sonic is a great restaurant. They have Sonic in Kentucky where I go to school and my parents love to come visit me to go to Sonic. Wouldn't it be great if Maryland would get a Sonic? Maybe some day we will.
