High School Musical 2

Anyone watch it tonight? Thoughts? Sadly, I'm a Disney nerd and I DVR'd it tonight and will watch sometime this weekend for a write-up on Monday. :p

AGDee 08-18-2007 07:29 AM

I soooo meant to watch it last night so I could rub it into my kids (who get back from band camp and Florida today) that I saw it first. I forgot. Oops.

DoctorD 08-18-2007 08:14 AM

slumber party at my house BECAUSE of HSM2.

I'm pretty whipped today ;)..... but the kids LOVED it!

honeychile 08-18-2007 12:58 PM

I watched it. Don't build your hopes up too high.

DeltAlum 08-18-2007 03:39 PM

Daughter Number Two was over for a while last night and we stumbled on it.

After about five minutes, we gave up.

KDAngel 08-19-2007 04:45 PM

I wasn't a fan of the beginning, but after it got started I like it... definitely for a sequel anyway. And this IS Disney, cheesy is what they do. And interestingly enough:

High School Musical 2’s TV debut was

- The most-watched basic cable television program of all time.
- The most-watched basic cable movie of all time.
- The highest-rated television program ever for children age 6 to 11.
- The most-viewed Friday television telecast, cable or broadcast, in the past five years.

LeslieAGD 08-19-2007 11:14 PM

The first one was obviously much better. The songs in the second movie weren't as catchy and fun as the first, but it was cute.

The character of Sharpay is annoying and two hours of her was too much, but I did like that they showed more of Ryan.

KillarneyRose 08-19-2007 11:58 PM

I was all set to watch it with my 12 year old, as I had promised in a weak moment, when her best friend showed up, relieving me of doing so. Thank Heavens! (although that Zac Efron is pretty cute in a could-be-my-son sort of way)

LOL. My kids watched the first one for the first time yesterday. (We recorded HSM2 for them to watch this week.) My 6-year-old daughter loved it, but my 9-year-old son's assessment of HSM1 was "kinda cheesy, but okay, I guess."

My wife and I just think all of the songs sound alike.

smiley21 08-20-2007 10:01 AM

My sister told me that "High School Musical 3" will be in theaters.

polarpi 08-20-2007 10:45 AM

I'll admit it - I watched it (two and a half of the airings :D)

I find the songs this time to be a little more catchy (although I will agree with cheesy!) and enjoyed the movie too :)

And smiley, I heard the same thing about HSM3.

Kevin 08-20-2007 11:05 AM

I watched about 1 minute of it.. I flipped to it in the middle of some song. I had heard of "High School Musical," yet never seen it. I know what I'm working with is anything but a representative sample, but it was less than impressive. I'll usually go out for musicals, cirque de soleil, that sort of thing... But this just didn't do it for me.

I feel the same way. No doubt the fact that we are some decades removed from the target audience has something to do with it.

My wife and I went to see Hairspray Saturday night -- the contrast between that (a really good musical) and HSM was quite noticeable.

That said, I will say that it's nice to have something G-rated that the whole family can watch together.

LOL - yes, Zac Efron would be allowed to date a child of mine!

I just didn't think the songs were anywhere as good as HSM 1, except the main duet. HSM 1 had "R skits" written all over it; not so much for this outing.

Please don't tell me you sang along with the songs during Sing A Long night! ;)

Even though I still firmly believe that whoever makes any mention of High School Musical should be shot...even my house wasn't spared this weekend. My nieces and nephews (who come over almost every weekend) were glued to the TV. Apparently Ashley Tisdale's BF IRL is a background dancer on HSM and he's a local kid, but I couldn't figure out which one he was. (TMZ spotted them in town two weeks ago for her 22nd birthday)

Who the eff names their kid Sharpay? Here's my daughter...the one with the name that sounds like the dog!

S-I-L and I are both convinced that Zac Efron will come out of the closet 6 years from now and pull a Lance Bass.

I wonder if this is what the older generations used to say about my generation when we were obsessed with Kids, Inc. and MMC?

sunnyhibiscus 08-20-2007 06:24 PM

By the way, HSM 2 will be released on DVD exactly 2 weeks before Christmas (December 11th).

I don't watch the Disney Channel a whole lot. I believe that The Disney Channel has been going downhill for a long time. But I tend to watch some of the movies. HSM 1 & 2 is one of them. I also like The Color of Friendship, and that movie with the girl that has moved to Hawaii. I can't remember the name. I also like the Cheetah Girls and Tiger Cruise.

Rip Girls was what it was called. Ironically, NONE of the scenes were actually filmed on location in Hawaii. They couldn't afford to film it here so they went to Queensland, Australia instead. Same with both parts of Johnny Tsunami. They filmed in Auckland, New Zealand this time.

Tiger Cruise was one that made a lasting impression on me...probably because it was 9/11 related. Hayden Panetierre was brilliant in that movie.

Yes, they announced that on E! tonight and some other show said it over the weekend.

Yes, she was. I loved it too because my dad's a Navy dentist and I went on a Tiger Cruise in 6th grade and it was so neat. Def a great movie. I'm surprised they haven't aired it more with her success on Heroes and all.

Yes, it is, except, of course, we knew that the MMC you were watching was not the real Mickey Mouse Club -- just some sad wannabe.

The whole HSM phenomenon makes me feel like I'm watching Frankie and Annette all over again. (Not that I'm quite that old.) Beach Blanket Bingo, anyone?

honeychile 08-21-2007 11:35 AM

Hmmm... I always thought that Sharpay was a play on "sharpie". And I'm embarrassed that I've given it that much thought!

lovelyivy84 08-21-2007 11:43 AM

I am still humming the music from this one. I liked thue music better in this, but the "plot" wasn't as engaging as the first.

I mean really, what friend is MAD when their boy gets a better job? You encourage that and then get them to hook you up. Duh!

Thank you. I wish that it would be released on DVD. But the chances are slim to none.

Probably - speaking of, I was singing the Kids, Inc. theme song this past week, and right now it's running through my head! :o

honeychile 08-22-2007 11:45 PM

I admit that I enjoyed the dance move version of HSM1. But, I didn't exactly jump up and do the moves - it just brought back memories of thousands of routines gone by....

Ever since HSM1, I've been convinced that Lucas Grabreel will do the same thing:eek::rolleyes:

I honestly never knew that Lance Bass was IN the closet until all the hoopla earlier this year. That duck has been quacking all along, IMHO!

*Maya* 09-01-2007 10:55 AM

i thought it was bad.it lasted about 2 hrs. and it went nowhere until the end of the movie.the songs were alot better though (i love the sharpay song,"fabulous.")i also liked "I dont dance" and "bet on it."

We should have known...

The "squeaky clean" ones are usually the ones taking naked pics of themselves.

Nude photo of Vanessa Hudgens circulated around the internet yesterday

(The above URL is safe, but the link on that page that'll take you to the photo is obviously NSFW)

What's worse is that her rep confirmed that it was her and it was meant to be private and personal. No clue if the photo was meant for Zac Efron's eyes only. Wonder what this means for her and Disney?

Being that Vanessa is only 18, one can only guess when those pics were taken. Ruh roh!

Xylochick216 09-07-2007 07:37 PM

I saw that on Perez Hilton yesterday. I'll be interested to see what Disney's stance is and how it will affect HSM3.

Looks like Disney's supporting her

Makes sense. The HSM cult's big bucks. It's unlikely that HSM3 would be nearly as succesful as 1&2 if they got rid of Gabriella.

The only problem I have with that statement is "The picture is not salacious." Okay, maybe she wasn't a porn-star-in-the-making, but the girl was naked. I know you're trying to skate over the situation but pull back a bit.

I think it's a good idea to just do nothing. After the millionth pun, people will forget about this.
