Ok, I have to tell you that (no insult meant here, but) I thought the exact same thing when I viewed the pictures. The PNM's are cute as can be; I think the Rho Chi's should get together and demand a better uniform!

Perhaps a large Vera Bradley tote? and no blue vests!

oldrusheenowmom 08-13-2007 01:24 PM

What fun!!

What a beautiful group of young ladies!!! Thanks for sharing!

Fleur de Lis 08-13-2007 01:33 PM

Is it just me, or do all of these girls look exactly the same??? ALL pretty, thin, wearing a similar dress. It's no wonder some girls fall through the cracks. Does anyone know what the green ribbon on the nametags mean?

NPC.

We got Green ribbons when we did our formal NPC new member meeting.

I think VB should cook up a special NPC pattern for this purpose, heaven knows the members buy enough VB products!! :D

I don't know, I saw lots of dress variety and there were definitely a few girls pictured that weren't thin. The only thing I thought was really homogenous was the hair style, but that's just college.

NutBrnHair 08-13-2007 01:50 PM

Ugly Blue Wal-Marty Rho Chi Vests = "No Frills" LOL

I agree... They all look very nice, but I've never seen such a large group of women with straight, shoulder length or longer hair, ALL wearing various Sun dresses IN MY LIFE. :D

SydneyK 08-13-2007 01:58 PM

It's amazing to me how none of these women seem to sweat! I'm sure it's hot in GA, have all these women had their sweat glands surgically removed or something?!? I would never have been able to look so polished (thank goodness I didn't go to school where it's a 90-some degrees during rush)!

I completely agree. They're indistinguishable to me, and seriously, do NONE of the girls rushing at UGA have medium/short hair? I'd stick out like a sore thumb!

Vests in Athens = Torture. I know - I live here!

I feel for the recruitment counsellors. Saturday was something like our eighth day in a row of over 100 degrees, and Sunday it only got up to about 95, but it was more humid.

Last night I saw a few girls wandering around downtown with ugly blue panhellenic recruitment t-shirts on. Were those rho chis too, or were those girls wearing the "official" recruitment tees?

MaggieXi 08-13-2007 02:57 PM

Well at least it seems like the Rho Chis are dealing with the funny blue vests. Granted it was colder in our deferred recruitment, but our Rho Chis have bright orange wind breakers on. The blue vests are a little much!!!!

And I saw some def. recruitment fashion dos and don'ts in the pics!!!! But an awful lot of girls were wearing flip flops!

candiceena 08-13-2007 03:00 PM

They do look a lot alike - but there were some cute dresses in there!

I have a question that maybe someone can clear up - I noticed a lot of flip-flops in the pictures, yet I have been told that heels are standard at a lot of SEC schools, such as Ole Miss. Is UGA stepping outside of the box on this one?

cluelessUGAmom 08-13-2007 03:08 PM

flip flops

at UGA the girls were told to "get their "rainbows" out and wear them because of all the walking and heat

MaggieXi 08-13-2007 03:21 PM

I'm guessing rainbows=flip flops in southernese?

Something like that...it's a brand name.

And I'm sure they were just wearing them in between parties.

FSUZeta 08-13-2007 03:57 PM

i agree. i'll bet a lot of those girls just wear the flip flops between houses and slip into their dressier shoes before the party begins.

and while i saw a few "don'ts", the vast majority of pnms were dressed in "do's". way to go girls!!

Southern ladies do not sweat. They glow.

FSUZeta 08-13-2007 03:59 PM

thank you tsteven. i was about to pass that pearl of wisdom on to our non-southern panhellenic sisters.

Lil_ChiO_Lady 08-13-2007 04:07 PM

houses

The girls houses are beautiful, the guys don't even compare..but at least get a gardener(hint:hint Beta Theta Pi). I mean guys could trip and get lost in the forest that is the frontyard.:p

ugadg 08-13-2007 04:07 PM

the blue vest are awful and add an unneeded extra layer in the heat, but do have very helpful pockets - they have been at uga rush forever!

WVU alpha phi 08-13-2007 04:10 PM

Every post about southern PNMs makes the girls out to be beautiful and I always rolled my eyes and thought people were exaggerating- but most of these girls are gorgeous! Must be some tough competition down there!

With the chapter I advise, it'd be the opposite - they're really moving closer to no-frills and the example we were told to help us is that we can't have girls all wearing black pants - to go for a variety of lengths (cropped, long, etc.) :p

Actually, probably not. Rainbow flip flops are HUGE at UGA and considered "dressy" flip flops. Round 1 is probably the most "casual"(if you can call it that) of the rounds and since they walk so much, the girls probably wore the flip flops. Heels come out more in skit and, for sure, pref round.

And I am SO excited there are so many UGA threads!! I hate being out of the loop on all the rush talk...

UGAalum94 08-13-2007 06:53 PM

The blue vests have been around a long time and they are kind of a tradition, I guess. I think it might be trying to send a message that these are people who are there to help you and support you, not glam it up or make you feel intimidated by their hotness.

Look at those PNMs and look up the UGA admissions standards these days. Know that almost all of them have extensive activities and good conversational skills. They will all seem eager to be at your party. Now, ask yourself how you would decide who to keep and who to release.

(Academically UGA wasn't as selective when I went there, and I really don't remember everyone going through rush being as universally pretty, so I'm not trying to retro-actively flatter myself, I promise.)

UGADad 08-13-2007 07:25 PM

Thanks

Thanks for posting the pics. Looks like red is the color of choice this year -- makes sense for UGA I guess.

Katmandu 08-13-2007 07:49 PM

Speaking of Red, in those pictures where so many of the girls had on red dresses in the identical shade of red, were those sorority girls dressed alike or pnms who simply selected red for the day? I was wondering if they were AOIIs ... but then was wondering why they were outside in the tents.

Beautiful pics, and I agree, when viewed in large groups, the pnms look remarkably alike---

DGAdDawg 08-13-2007 08:02 PM

That is AOPi..They wear red dresses for round 1.

I do think some of the photos were from the end of a party at the AOII house. (A high number of red dresses, and I'm pretty sure the AOII front yard).

A few earlier photos in the showed girls with strawberry name tags and the Zeta house, and the PNMs all have the same panhellenic tags.

Zeta and AOII are pretty close geographically, so I think some were from the tail end of parties when members would have been showing their girls out.

Katmandu 08-13-2007 08:06 PM

Thanks DGAdDawg, I wondered if they were AOII, (I saw an "A" in the house behind them) Love, love the red dresses, and there seemed to be too many of them to be pnms. Just beautiful and so memorable for the rushees...

NUBlue&Blue 08-13-2007 08:35 PM

Twenty-five years later and the only house I remember walking into the first time is the AOPi house. They were arranged on the stairs and in the foyer wearing red dresses. It really is stunning (and of course, I went to Nebraska....so doubly impressive where RED RULES!)

WarEagle07 08-13-2007 11:10 PM

I just have to clarify this... The flip flops are only to be worn between parties. They are not considered dressy in this sense. The houses are far apart and there are 18 houses I think. That is a lot of walking in 100 degree weather. These lovely ladies would surely get blisters if they wore their heels all day! These are some long and grueling days for these girls. I believe that one day they had to be ready to go by 6am! Rainbow is a brand name, they are comparable to Reef's if you have heard of those. They are a basic brown leather flip flop, extremely comfortable, and worn by both men and women. Here in the south, flip flops rule the day as far as footwear goes just because it is too hot to wear anything else!

shadden 08-14-2007 09:24 PM

Actually, breakfast was at 6:15 each day and they boarded the buses at 7:15. Parties started at 8. Who planned those times?

Someone who wanted to avoid the heat, I guess?

The competition really is fierce. There is an article posted on UGA site today that says this is the..."most academically talented freshman class in its history"
Plus, something like over 90% of the freshmen are on the HOPE - Georgia's state scholarship program and that is with the current changes that were just made to the program that made it even harder to attain.

our UGA girls were told they did not need to bring their heels and could stay in rainbows all day 1 & 2 - the dress gets progressively dressier as the days go on and they were told to carry their heels.

By making all my calls today I'm getting lots of info now so I am not as "clueless" i guess! LOL!
