JessLynn's Fall 2007 Rush Thread
Okay so recruitment actually started for me yesterday but it's been super busy so I haven't been able to post until now. I'm at a midwest school with really great greek system so I'm really excited about all of this.
Yesterday was the first day so we went to all the chapter houses and it was way different than I expected, our rho gammas explained to us beforehand that there would be singing and whatnot but it's way different when you actually experience it. My first house I was so overwhelmed but after the first two I got used to the whole process and it got way better. It seems to be going really good and I like a lot of the girls in my recruitment group and I'm sure most rho gammas are good but mine is awesome and I love her. So on to the code names, I decided to use dead musicians for some reason, just go with it: Jim Morrison Jimi Hendrix Janis Joplin Buddy Holly Marvin Gaye John Lennon Kurt Cobain Bob Marley Jerry Garcia Freddy Mercury Ronnie Van Zant Elvis Presley Johnny Cash I've got to go meet up with my recruitment group right now because we're starting our second day so I'll have to wait until tonight to tell you all about yesterday. |

Wow, this is way harder than I thought it was going to be. So yesterday was open house day and we got the chance to meet all sororities which was really nice but also really overwhelming. When the door first opened up and the singing started and they whisked us off one by one to different places to sit and started talking to us I was really kind of put off and when the different sisters came to take the original one's place I was really confused but I eventually got used to it and by the end of the day it seemed normal.
Here are some of my original impressions of the sororities: Jim Morrison - My last house so I was pretty excited to be done and I think that gave me an extra burst of energy. The first girl I talked to was from my hometown so it made conversation really easy because we just talked about places there that we knew. The second girl I was absolutely in love with she was so fun and bubbly and I felt really comfortable talking to her. Jimi Hendrix - The girls here were really easy to relate to because all of the ones I talked to were interested in the same things as me and I had a total nerd moment with one of them talking about science that put me completely at ease. Janis Joplin - The girls I talked to from here were really nice and I felt comfortable enough talking to them but I could just tell that they're not "me" if that makes any sense? Buddy Holly - All of the things I talked to them about were things were neither one of us could really relate to and I just didn't feel like I clicked there at all. Marvin Gaye - I had a really good conversation with the first girl but the other conversations I had seemed really forced and unnatural. John Lennon - All three of the girls I talked to seemed really quirky and fun and they all seemed to have a sense of humor similar to mine. Kurt Cobain - All three of the girls I talked to here seemed really laid back and we had really naturally flowing conversations about things other than hometown, major, etc. I felt really comfortable here. Bob Marley - I had nice conversations with the girls and they seemed like genuine nice people but I didn't really feel like it clicked with me, I couldn't see myself hanging out and being comfortable completely acting like myself around them. Jerry Garcia - I had some pretty good conversations and got good information on like their philanthropies and stuff but I didn't feel like I clicked here either. Freddy Mercury - The girls were easy to talk to but again I'm not sure if it's "me". Ronnie Van Zant - I was so excited about this one because I'd stayed there for this thing our greek system does where you spend the night in a sorority house and get to watch lip-sync and the greek olympics so basically it's th reason I decided to do recruitment in the first place. I also went to high school with a girl who lives there. I had a pretty good talk with the girls and the girl I knew from high school came and talked to me too. Elvis Presley - It was my first house so I was super nervous but the first girl I talked to was related to a guy I went to high school with so it helped break the ice. Johnny Cash - I don't really remember this place and all I have in my recruitment notes are nice girl and didn't click. |
Go Jimi Hendrix...you gotta love a group that's okay with the science geeks! (I can say that since I'm a science geek!!)

Okay so yesterday I got invited back to 12 of the 13 parties which was really nice because it meant that I got plenty of choices for the day which was 9 party day where we got to watch either like a skit or a slide show.
The houses I went to yesterday were: Jim Morrison - I had really good conversations with four different girls and they had a really cute skit. Jimi Hendrix - Their skit was hilarious and I had some more good conversations but not as great as the first day. Buddy Holly - So different from yesterday, I totally clicked with all three of the girls I talked to, they reminded me of my friends back home, and I felt totally comfortable with them. John Lennon - I had some more good conversations with two new girls and one of the girls I talked to yesterday so it was nice to see a familiar face, they had a really funny skit too. Kurt Cobain - Their skit was really cute and I talked to two of the same girls I'd talked to yesterday and it was nice that they remembered me and I could see that our connecting yesterday wasn't like a fluke. Jerry Garcia - I had some good talks with girls about sports we played in high school and I got a different feel from here than I originally did yesterday. Freddy Mercury - Again, cute skit but the conversations weren't as naturally flowing as they were yesterday and I didn't seem to really click here. Ronnie Van Zant - They had a slide show and it was neat to see the girls I knew from last year who were seniors but after my talks I'm starting to feel like even though this is a great sorority maybe it's just not the place for me. Elvis Presley - Another slide show, the first girl I talked to was incredibly genuine and down to earth but the second girl was really, almost painfully shy so it made conversation really awkward and I'm not sure I fit here. |

Oh wow, I've been absent for awhile things have been really busy but I figure if I start a story I should probably finish it.
So for five party day we went on house tours the ones I attended are as follows: Jimi Hendrix - I talked to a girl from a town near mine who knew some relatives and they had a really nice house but I didn't really feel like it clicked very well. Jerry Garcia - They had a gorgeous house and the girls that I talked to were really sweet but I didn't know if it was really a place I belonged. John Lennon - They had a really cute house and I talked to a few of the girls I'd spoken with earlier in the week. Buddy Holly - Now that recruitment is over for me I can probably allow identifying facts to slip out. We had to take a video tour of this house because earlier in the week there had been a small fire in the third floor, there house was still very nice though. I didn't connect very well here, probably because another pnm was with us and she seemed to click more and did most of the talking. Kurt Cobain - It was my last party and it seemed like everything that came out of my mouth was just completely stupid. I really liked the house and all the girls I talked to were amazing but I'm so sure I'm not going to get invited back. |

My guess is that she's either too busy with school and having fun with her new sisters to think about Greek Chat, or she was cut/dropped out and didn't want to say so over the internet.

Sorry people here's a short version of the rest of my story. I was only really sure about one of my houses on pref night so I suicided, I didn't get a bid from that house but I still wanted to go greek so I went through informal recruitment and I am now a Sigma Kappa. Sorry this took forever to finish.
