My 2007 UGA Recruitment!

I've been debating for quite some time whether I would post my story here, but I've decided that it'll be fun if I do and all you fine people can celebrate in my triumphs and/or my defeats!

First off, I'm a freshman from Atlanta from a small private school. I acquired recs in a manner that should ensure that I have the best possible experience, mostly thanks to the alumnae panhellenic in my area (those ladies are AMAZING) I am a legacy to two houses but my mom, my stepmom and my grandma all just want me to go where I am happiest!

First round consisted of 17 twenty minute parties over the course of two days. Today was the end of first round and we ranked when we got back to the student center. We'll get our invite list in the morning. Of course I have some favorites and there are some that I liked less than others but I would truly be happy to be invited back to any of them!

Tomorrow will be one of the longest days since there are twelve parties all in one day. But I'll be sure to let y'all know how it's going. And I'll put code names out tomorrow as well. I'm excited!

p.s. i love love love my rho chi and wish I knew what house she was in cause I would love to be her sister!

uga

At least it was cooler there yesterday! I hope it is today, as well. 12 house tour parties make for a long day with lots of walking.

I still like seeing what the other houses look like- but there is no place like HOME!

melongirl 08-13-2007 11:08 AM

UGA added a philanthropy "round" to one of their rounds this year. Which round?

honeychile 08-13-2007 11:19 AM

Good luck, southernpromise - may you get a bid to a house which will feel like home!

Edited because one shouldn't try to (seriously) work and respond to a R thread at the same time!

DGAdDawg 08-13-2007 04:29 PM

Good luck!! And stay cool!

I'm SO excited about all the UGA threads...

and really? A philanthropy round? hmm...I know as a chapter we'd designate a day to talk about it..interesting.

Wow... REALLY? I hope they don't have to do the shorts-and-t-shirt thing like girls at some other SEC schools.

Just found the info in the latest AJC article

Tuesday Aug. 14
• Round Three (six events in one day)
• Philanthropic Round
• Recruits attend 40-minute parties at up to six sorority houses, with 20-minute breaks
• Rank sorority selections and meet with recruitment counselors

But no word on the "suggested dress"

So it's replacing skit round? :(

I *think* its added on to the end of skit round. A video/slide show or presentation about the philanthropy, but not a craft to make. At least not this year.

DGAdDawg 08-13-2007 05:20 PM

I don't think it is replacing skit round....from a few facebook postings, I know about some DGs practicing for skit! Maybe thats when they'll talk about it?

UGAalum94 08-13-2007 06:06 PM

When this philanthropy thing came up earlier this year, I got the impression that it was to be an emphasis in the chapters presentation that round, so maybe it could be a separate slide show or skit or mixed in with scrap books or something.

NUBlue&Blue 08-13-2007 06:13 PM

The Pointer (online at the UGA panhellenic site) shows sundresses for everyday and a dressier dress for pref.

KSUViolet06 08-13-2007 07:41 PM

NPC is trying to get schools to move away from skits and do philanthropy rounds in place of them.

Anyway, best of luck to you southernpromise!

UGAalum94 08-13-2007 08:01 PM

I'm cool with a round that showcases philanthropy and events that the chapter do throughout the year. As I've said before, 5000 craft projects would be really wasteful. Nobody really needs that many boo-boo bunnies.

(I'm all about philanthropy that serves the needs of the community or serves the GLOs own group. But not about sinking thousands of dollars system-wide into something cute and crafty for the PNMs to do. I really hope it doesn't come to that.)

agd4rie 08-13-2007 09:26 PM

agd4rie- already in!

As a official visitor, I like to visit the other houses! I made my choice almost 30 years ago! ;)

And a fine one it was if I do say so myself.

southernpromise 08-13-2007 11:41 PM

hey y'all!
sorry it took me so long to get back to you about this! I just woke up from the worlds longest nap!

I had a really great house tour and I am lucky to say that I went to 8 beautiful houses. I was a little bummed when i wasn't asked back to 2 of my favorites but the i was fine with the ones i went to. sitting in the blazing georgia sun between parties wasn't that exciting but i got to hear a lot of sorority girls screaming and see them waving while i waited!

so this is where i'll name the ones i went to.
i'm using shoes!

espadrilles: these were some of the classiest ladies I have ever met and by far the most beautiful of the houses that I visited today.

pumps
: this is one of my legacy houses, it was almost eerie walking in here they knew stuff about as if they had been studying. weird. but they were super nice and had a great house.

wedges: this is my other legacy house. i'm not sure I would fit in here but I would be willing to give it another look around. I'm not really sure that i'd like to pref here though.

stilettos: this house was beautiful from the outside but the girls I talked to were a little strange. they were loud though and they all seemed happy to be where they were. I don't really see this as home though.

flats: i was actually surprised to be invited back i thought we didn't click at all the first day. but i'm really glad I was, these girls seemed to have similar interests to me and they answered my questions eagerly.

boat shoes
: this one i really liked a lot but i think it's one of the smaller houses. both times i'm visited here i could see myself at home here, but some of the things the other girls say i'd fit in elsewhere. i guess i'll have to see tomorrow.

strappy sandals
: i don't the girls here really like me. but their house tour was fun and they stand out and are a little different than the norm.

sneakers: the girls here seem the most genuine. i like the way they communicate with one another and they really seem to know their sisters. i could really see myself here as well.

so i'd really be thrilled to be going back to any of these houses for philanthropy/skit round tomorrow. i'll let you guys know how it goes tomorrow!

honeychile 08-13-2007 11:48 PM

Thanks for the update - those sneakers sound comfy!

Don't be worried about the size of the house. If you like them, they'll be big enough for you!

AlwaysSAI 08-14-2007 09:05 AM

Keep trecking Southernpromise!!! I can't wait to hear where you went today!! :D:D

Soliloquy 08-14-2007 12:05 PM

Try not to think about where other girls think you fit in best. I know it's pretty hard to ignore opinions of those around you, but remember that you will be the one who has to spend time with your new sisters! Go where you feel the most comfortable!

Good luck!! :D

In other words, if the shoe fits, wear it

(Yeah, I know, but I had to)
