LadyGreek & Delph

I just saw breaking news that a bridge collapsed into the Mississippi River in Minneapolis and I was just wanted to be sure you two were OK. (Sorry if I am missing any other Minn. folks! If so, let us know that you are OK also!)

If you read this, let us know that all is well. If anyone happens to have their number, please give them a call to be sure they are OK.

(CT4, you can delete this thread when needed. I was going to post this in Random Spurts, but I didn't want it to get buried or lost in the mix!)

It's on CNN now.... this is horrific.

Yeah, I just called my mom and dad and they told me tonight. I used to cross that same old bridge to go to work when I was in highschool and whenever traffic would get stopped on it, it would vibrate. I always hated that bridge.

delph998 08-01-2007 09:36 PM

So kind, RedefinedDiva. Praise the Lord, everyone that I know of so far is okay. I drive that freeway all of the time. That is my sister's daily route to work, but praise God she didn't have to go to work today -- otherwise, she could have very well been on that bridge at that time.

Thank you for thinking of Ladygreek and me.

I just spoke to Ladygreek and she's okay as well.

Glad to hear that the two of you are ok....I'm praying for your city....:(

Thanks everyone. Luckily, I don't have to use that bridge, but it sent shivers down my spine to hear that Del's sister uses it regularly.

PB, glad to here your family is okay, too.

They have announced six fatalities. But they are now doing a river recovery as opposed to a river rescue, beause they still don't know how many people might still be in the water. :( I pray that everyone is out.

ETA: They just announced that at least 20 people are missing.

MeezDiscreet 08-01-2007 10:28 PM

Sorors, I thought of you two when I saw it on Yahoo! I thank God that yall are okay and my heart goes out to everyone!

BlessedOne04 08-01-2007 10:48 PM

Glad to hear that you are okay. My dad lives there and he called me and told me the news. I'll be praying for Minneapolis/St. Paul.

AKA_Monet 08-01-2007 10:52 PM

Take care of yourself! :( Our infrastructure is aging...

YES! Stay safe!

GeekyPenguin 08-01-2007 11:57 PM

I am glad both of you are okay, I hope all of your loved ones are as well. I am on pins and needles waiting to hear from some of my friends still.

RedefinedDiva 08-01-2007 11:59 PM

I am so happy that you two are OK. The signal I connect to has been acting up, so I haven't been able to see the posts for a few hours. I've been worried. I heard of one fatality earlier and by the time Dateline came on, they were up to 6. My heart goes out to everyone involved!

Thank you. This will affect us for years to come. Personally I am awaiting an outside investigation into MN DOT, which has already been under scrutiny.

CrimsonTide4 08-02-2007 07:07 AM

 Glad to know you two and your families and friends are okay.:)

UrbanizdSkillz 08-02-2007 07:44 AM

Wow I'm glad to hear that both of you are okay. This is exactly why I have a semi-fear of being stuck on bridges. You want to believe your infrastructure is secure but it just isn't these days.

FeeFee 08-02-2007 08:58 AM

This story is just horrific. I logged on GC today to make sure that we heard from Ladygreek, Delph and any other peeps from MN that are on here.

:(:(

Infamous12 08-02-2007 09:14 AM

Praise God you all are safe! I started bawling after my sands told me...things like this really get to me. Especially knowing that my mother takes a bridge to work every single morning.

Also, reports are out that the death toll is down to 4. The original claim of 7 was based on theory, not actual remains.

Our local paper reported nine, though. And there are still at least 20 people unaccounted for. :( This is still so unreal to me.

So am I, so am I!

jitterbug13 08-02-2007 11:04 AM

When I first heard about the story at work last night, the first thing I thought of was LG and Del (because ya'll are the only people I know in MN). I glad that both of you are safe and will be praying for those who have been affected.

Still BLUTANG 08-02-2007 11:42 AM

glad to hear you all are safe!

unspokenone25 08-02-2007 12:27 PM

Glad to hear all are safe and accounted for. Praying for those lives lost and those that have yet to be accounted for in MN.

NiaX 08-02-2007 12:29 PM

I am so glad that you all are safe. I forgot my company has an office in MN, they said it was located 15 mi from the site.

Honeykiss1974 08-02-2007 01:26 PM

Glad to hear that LD and Delph are safe (as well your family members). My prayers definitely go out to all affected. :(

I can't even imagine. I'm sure everyone was just sitting there in traffic (probably griping like we all do :p ) making plans for the evening and then all of a sudden something terrible like this happens. Tomorrow is just not promised and then we all somtimes forget that, especially when we get busy with all the things going on in our lives.

May God comfort everyone involved. And don't forget to tell someone today how much they mean to you.

delph998 08-02-2007 02:52 PM

Thank you all for your prayers and act of concern. I'm so grateful to God that my family and friends were not affected by this.

There are so many sad accounts: A lady that I know had just ridden under the bridge as it was falling (she was on the city express bus); my coworker's friend's mom was on the bridge when it collapsed and is in critical condition right now.

So many people use that freeway -- it's a major freeway in our city. And though I don't live in Mpls., I commute through there all of the time when I commute to church, get my hair done, etc. I'm just thankful.

Continue to lift our city up in prayer.

kiml122 08-03-2007 06:47 PM

I was reading about this yesterday on Yahoo wire they were talking about Flip Saunders who use to coach the T-wolves and he was driving and he was talking that he takes that bridge everday but didn't that day only because traffic was backed and his daughter was follwing behind him as well, other they both would have been on the bridge because he saw it collaps, and when I read this I thought of LG and Delph because they are the only people I know of that live in MN.....so I am so glad to know that both of you are ok as well.:)

pinkies up 08-03-2007 08:13 PM

I'm glad you both are safe.
