An Utterly Useless but Delightfully Escapist Poll...

This is probably geared toward the ladies...

If you had $10,000 dollars to spend on something completely frivolous, which of the following would you choose:

A. A pair of diamond stud earrings
B. A mink coat
C. A Hermes Birkin bag
D. A custom made Badgley Mischka gown
E. A Chanel suit

Unregistered- 07-31-2007 09:51 PM

The Birkin. Definitely the Birkin.

Agreed.

Dionysus 07-31-2007 10:03 PM

Ok, I have never heard of C or D. Yay for being an unsophisticated GCer!

I would choose A., show it off for a few days, then sell it on ebay, and take the money and travel.

Drolefille 07-31-2007 10:12 PM

The gown. I don't know who that is, but I'd rather have a dress than a purse or earrings.

Maybe the Chanel suit. I'm indecisive with my frivolity.

smiley21 07-31-2007 10:13 PM

I want the Birkin bag too. :)

summer_gphib 07-31-2007 10:43 PM

The earrings. Everything else will eventually go out of style or wear out. Diamonds are a girls best friend! :D

cuteASAbug 07-31-2007 10:53 PM

The diamonds.

icelandelf 07-31-2007 10:53 PM

Diamonds definitely.

AlethiaSi 07-31-2007 10:55 PM

diamonds! :D

UGAalum94 07-31-2007 10:55 PM

Can I spend it at a spa instead?

Of the list, I think I'd go diamond earrings.

I must be as unsophisticated as you because I haven't heard of C or D either. *Tear* i feel soo under-privileged.

If I had to chose, i'd probably pick the chanel suit. But like Drolefille, i'm indecisive.

SoCalGirl 07-31-2007 11:23 PM

Dahling, is there really any other choice? The diamonds of course. /ZsaZsa

AlexMack 07-31-2007 11:28 PM

What kind of diamonds? Certified Canadian Arctic diamonds? Oh wait, my ears aren't pierced.

I'll take the gown, I have a thing for pretty dresses.

Please tell me someone else enjoys "Ice Road Truckers" and knows all about how they get supplies to the Canadian diamond mines by driving on the Ice Road.

Someone? Anyone?

I like the idea of a spa, too, but I inherited a wonderful pair of antique diamond earrings. I could handle a pair that's either emerald- or brilliant-cut, though!

ETA: I don't care if a moose carried them to the US - is anything quite as exciting as diamonds?!

My husband, but I usually cut his viewing pleasure short with a critically pitched "what are you watching?"

(really, I watched some of the "Deadly Catch," I think it was, about Alaskan Crab guys; can't I draw the line now on cold weather reality employment shows and still be a pretty good sport?)

OMG...guess I am another unsophiscated GCer, I have heard of only one of these, and won't say which one. My mother and aunt would know them all.
I am long convinced that my older sister, happiest in cowboy boots, a denim shirt and jeans, and myself---my purse is a backpack, and my shoes are usually flip flops, were both switched at birth. I did have to get a suit last year, jones of new york, and good grief, the pricetag.

Instead, I would bank/invest most of the money, and then spend a little on airbrushing, as am no longer supposed to be in the sun like I used to.

sorry for interrupting the survey.

minDyG 08-01-2007 01:56 AM

D. I second whoever said they'd rather have a pretty dress than a bag or earrings.

Munchkin03 08-01-2007 02:22 AM

Either the diamonds or the Birkin. It's not a trendy bag at all...

Square cut or pear-shaped, these rocks don't loose there shape. Diamonds are a girl's best friend.

Yeah. The bag.

SydneyK 08-01-2007 08:53 AM

To echo some others...

Yeah, I've never heard of C or D, either. My purse is a diaper bag. I'm now a SAHM with two still in diapers, so my opportunities for wearing the suit or the gown are few and far between.

The diamonds are the only real choice here. Even if I were wearing sweats, I imagine that a $10,000 pair of diamond studs would make me feel a little like a woman again - before I became that "M" word.

Of course, like someone else said, I'd rather sell them on eBay for the cash, but that wasn't an option.

I'll take the diamonds, only because they won't go out of style or get eaten by moths while they sit in my attic waiting to be used!

And I love this show- that and the Dangerous Catch show. I don't have time to watch sitcoms or dramas on a weekly basis, so I am always lost. So instead I have become addicted to the real life shows on TLC and Discovery.

I have wondered, do the guys on the crab boats ever boil up some of the crabs they have just caught for dinner?

aggieAXO 08-01-2007 09:19 AM

the diamonds. I am glad no one would buy the mink coat.

Our proofreader is somewhat obsessed with that show because we once did an article on the Canadian diamond mines.

-----------------

On topic: it would be a tough choice between the Birkin and the diamonds, but I'd have to go with the earrings.

Why no to the mink coat? Because of animal rights and how the are killed and all of that? How do you feel about diamond cartels and how they are mined?

KillarneyRose 08-01-2007 12:06 PM

Okay, no political or moral discussions allowed on my Delightfully Escapist Thread!! :)

And to you ladies who would sell the item and invest the money: No practicality allowed here! :p

Stef the Pef 08-01-2007 12:09 PM

Definitely the diamonds.

AlwaysSAI 08-01-2007 01:33 PM

I pick, E. Use it for a down payment on a new car.

OneTimeSBX 08-01-2007 01:37 PM

i would have to decide between the handbag and earrings. any of the other choices and people would get tired of seeing me at walmart in the fur coat, or at the movies in the evening gown, or watering the lawn in that chanel suit...especially the evening gown. everywhere would be a red carpet event for me!! lol

xo_kathy 08-01-2007 01:45 PM

I'd go for the Birkin.

I have some diamond studs (though they are no where near 10K!) and I rarely wear them. My hair is always down and you never see my ears.

And funny enough, most of my purses are from Target, but I'd love the Birkin. I can't bring myself to spend 300 on a "nice bag", but I'd take the Birkin in a heartbeat - assuming I had the money!

She started it!! LOL

If I can't be political or moral, I'll take the Birkin please! ;)

lovelyivy84 08-01-2007 01:51 PM

diamonds are nice but Chanel is a forever icon my friends. Also, without going into too much political detail I despise the diamond industry and their marketing.

Although I covet Badgley Mischka. Their gown are gorgeous.

I'd go with the Chanel suit. A true classic.

justabeachbrat 08-01-2007 01:51 PM

Actually made too quick of a read of choices yesterday.
Do recognize A,B,E. Do I have 1 or more, no. The other 2, I don't know labels, top designers. If I need something classy, I shop with my mom, I hold stuff up, and she either rolls her eyes, laughs or hands me something to try on.

She says the diamonds, I mentioned the diamond cartel, and she has friends in PETA, and I was told no daughter of hers will be allowed out in a mink coat.

GeekyPenguin 08-01-2007 05:21 PM

The Birkin.

TrueBlueKappa 08-01-2007 05:56 PM

Definitely the Birkin.

Definitely!

However, $10K for a serious spa vacation sounds like heaven on earth to me.
