Mothers Pin

Does your group have a special pin for it's members mothers or fathers? I seen this cute pin, listed as an

"VINTAGE ALPHA GAMMA DELTA SORORITY MOTHER'S PIN BEAUTY"
http://i13.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/ab/8c/7a72_1.JPG

I know Tri Delta has a group called Tri Psi for it's members moms. Also, Beta Sigma Phi has a mothers pin.

honeychile 07-23-2007 11:14 PM

I tried a search, because I know this has been discussed before, but yes, many GLOs have some sort of Mothers Pin. This is Alpha Delta Pi's:

Yes, my mother has one!

We do not have a mom's pin.

ASA has a "Mother Patroness" pin, for moms that contribute to the chapters. (There are other occasions for this pin as well)

We also have a Phoenix recognition pin, that can be given to males as well. (Chapter advisors, and I suppose Dads that contribute to the chapter...maybe?)

ladygreek 07-24-2007 10:49 AM

My Mom had her own Delta Sigma Theta pin, which I now cherish.

carnation 07-24-2007 11:24 AM

I don't think Pi Phi has one...AOII does and if Chi O and Zeta have them, I've never seen them. I do, though, have a massive amount of "mom" T-shirts!

Oh- that could be a fight in your house if you ever decided to wear all of the mother's pins at the same time- which one is higher than the others?

carnation 07-24-2007 11:52 AM

Let's just say that maybe it's a good thing that they don't all have pins!

speedsters 07-24-2007 11:57 AM

ZTA does have a mother's pin and its a turquoise and grey crown with a white violet on it. we do a mother's pin ceremony once a year in my chapter.

Carnation, you would look like Idi Amin!!! LOL

No, Chi Omega has never had a mother's pin.

carnation, the Herff Jones site shows a Pi Phi mother's pin. It's an arrowhead with the three lettes.

SWTXBelle 07-24-2007 01:00 PM

Gamma Phi has one - it is shaped like the shield of our pledge pin, but has a pink carnation instead of a crescent. My mom wears hers right next to (but a little lower) her Gamma Phi Beta badge!:)

Question: would a mother who is a current alum of an NPC wear a mother's pin for their daughter's GLO?

That's what these are talking about:

A Quill is AXiD's badge.

But those two happen to belong to the same organization as their daughter's do.

Sigma Chi Mother of Pearl Cross

While this pendant is usually given to House Mothers and the chapter sweetheart, it may also be given to Sig Mothers. After all, they are our first Sweetheart.

HA I'm jealous of my mom's ZTA mother's pin - I think the crown is so pretty!

right. i meant, if mom was an active alum of XYZ and their daughter was an active ABC. does it still work out or is it a no-no?

cuteASAbug 07-24-2007 02:17 PM

I think it is still allowed, but most, if not all NPCs state that any other organization's jewelry (sweetheart pins, mother's pins, professional org pins, etc.) has to be worn below your NPC badge. Although if you're in an NPC, I don't know why you would need/want a mother's pin. Any occasion at which you could wear it, wouldn't you be more apt to wear your own badge? Then again I like things simple and don't like guards or dangles for my badge either.

SWTXBelle 07-24-2007 02:17 PM

I don't see why not - the point is you are a mother of a member, whether or not you yourself are a member of that GLO.

Tom Earp 07-24-2007 02:19 PM

All are so lovely and a great honor to Moms! I am sure they desearve them!!:)

Beautiful S X pin also.

As far as I know LXA does not have one.

SWTXBelle 07-24-2007 02:24 PM

I love that Sigma Chi one - good thing I already have my sons going "I want to be a Sigma Chi!"

dvs-dz 07-24-2007 07:38 PM

I can't find a picture, but Delta Zeta has (or at least had) one in the shape of a column.

I don't see why not, but my hypothetical future daughter's ABC mother's pin would (properly) go below my AEPhi badge. But we all know my hypothetical future daughter is going AEPhi, right?? ;)

AEPhi does not have a mother's or father's pin. It would be kind of hard to design one, since only initiated sisters may wear the Greek letters.

(BTW, I think it's very sweet that AZ-AlphaXi's mom uses her mother's pin as her guard. :) )

If you're a member of XYZ but attending an event of your daughter's ABC sorority where pin attire is appropriate I think it'd be an excellent way to show your pride in your group and in her group. Some of those pins really make want a ton of daughters in different groups. :)

OleMissGlitter 07-24-2007 09:15 PM

We have had many members whose mother's were members of other NPC groups. Those mothers will wear the AOII mother's pin while they help with recruitment or just come to Parents' Weekend events. I know of one member whose mother is a Phi Mu and her mom wears her AOII mother's pin all of the time! I think it's very sweet!

The very pretty Pi Phi mother's pin is on page 2 of the PBP official jewelry catalogue. :)

Thetagirl218 07-25-2007 12:07 AM

So would your mother only wear the mother's pin if she was a member of a NPC GLO? I don't think Theta has a mother's pin anyway, I was just wondering.

I don't think so, any mother can wear them. It's supposed to be worn with respect, and NPC members will get that, but non-members aren't necessarily clueless. I could see there being parents you wouldn't want to give one to, and ones who wouldn't wear it anyway, but any mother could.

Are there any special rules for the mothers' pins? I seem to recall hearing something about the Tri-Psi pins being for people who join a "mother's group" or something like that...can any DG or DG alum give this as a gift for their mom or are there strings attached?

My mom's joining Tri Psi this fall :D It's actually a seperate "mothers of Tri Deltas" organization, not just a mother's pin, so it has it's own rules. I don't know of any other restrictions to giving your mother a mother's pin.

SoCalGirl 07-25-2007 01:38 AM

I'm scratching my head at the Pi Phi mother's pin. My understanding is it's a national rule that their NMs can't wear PBF though they can wear PF. Why would the rule be different for a mom???

Well, it would appear that at least Pi Phi and Zeta do...how many badges would that be if every Greek in your family were to give you one?!

The Alpha Gam and the KD mom's badges are BEAUTIFUL.

For this, I agree with you. I like my Torch simple without guards or dangles.

Some of these mother pins are pretty. And no, SDT doesn't have one as far as I know.
