Answer to the Iota Theta Eta Question....

Heathens? Holier than thou attitudes? Apparently, none of you fully understand what Christian organizations are about. First of all the organization, just like the church, are the people that form it. The organization is Iota Theta Eta.... "ITE" for those that did not understand. There is a play on letters being that the Theta is shaped like an O - I owe Him...He died for me so I live for Him" That is all... there is no deeper explanation. Yes, This is an organization founded by One person, I am not sure why the criticism on that note? Anyhow, the founder, as all Christian women do, has a personal relationship with a Her Lord and Savior. Through prayer and meditation - which most Christian women do - she had an idea, a dream, and she went to her Father (heavenly of course) for permission and confirmation. That is all, that is all the divine inspiration one needs. It is nothing difficult to understand there.
Unlike some other organizations, ITE is strictly Bible based. This is a group of women that joined together in the bonds of Christian Unity to build each other up, empower each other and to support each other in our faith. That is the Alternative part....It has absolutely nothing to do with Academics, it is Community Based, it is not a "be what you want to be", "how you want to be", "when and where you want to be" type thing. These are women STRIVING to live for God's purpose. Notice the striving. These women are not holier than though, nor have that attitude, frankly I can't stand that either. They can really care less where you are on your PERSONAL spiritual journey with God as long as you are striving to live for His purpose. If you fall as we all do, there is now someone to lift you up. Yes, sometimes you can find this type of thing in our churches, however, unfortunately the church has more of those holier than though type attitudes you speak of in this chatroom, than anyone really wants to deal with. This is not a fake thing. It is not a you vs me thing, this is a God thing and no one is going to distract us from this. We are learning more about how we live, learning more about how we should live and keeping each other company in Christ through His Word.
There are some of us that have been involved in other Greek Letter Organizations and to tell you the truth, it has absoluetley nothing to do with you. No one is dogging anyone out, the way I have seen us dogged out here. The difference between This organization and many others, is that we are all about our walks with Christ and empowering each other to stay on that path.
Oh, as for the chapter names...It is not a Greek thing.... Alpha and Omega....God is the Alpha and the Omega... the beginning and the end.... No need to further explain that one...As for the words in between look them up, if you like, for their biblical reference and to what they mean.
Our spirituality is not a joke. We can not speak for other Christian Fraternities and Sororities, because even with them, there will be differences and similarities. But that does not make us enemies...We are all Sisters and Brothers in Christ and should love each other accordingly. Not try to tear each other down for things we don't undrerstand, nor judge each other. BTW - The reason we are in this chat room is because someone gave us a heads up that we were being slammed. So, we came to check it out for ourselves.
Any other information you would like to know, just ask? Nothing is secretive here. Pics on the website are for our family and friends, our rituals are open, everything that goes on and is said, you can read about it in the Holy Bible, doesn't matter what version. There is nothing for us to hide from or be ashamed to show others. So anything else on your mind, or perhaps that you don't understand...Please feel free to contact us and ask.

RozRochelle 07-18-2007 09:19 PM

Liveit07, don't waste your time or your breath trying to explain. It's useless because you will be shouting into the wind.

Besides myself, I have not seen even one fairly active GC member openly confess the Lord. If there are other believers here, they are afraid to take a righteous stand. But, that's okay; there will be a day of reckoning because as Jesus said in Mark 8:28: "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels." (NKJV)

So let the haters and naysayers do what they do. Shake 'em off, and don't make the mistake of getting drawn in and dragged down to their level. What God has for ITE is for ITE. :D

Correct me if I am wrong, but shouldn't this statement be to "profess" or to "proclaim" God or the Lord? I thought confessing meant admitting one did something wrong. And if one is saying God is good, why would he or she "confess" the Lord?

No, it's a correct use of the word, the primary meaning of which to acknowledge, declare or admit. To confess that Christ is Lord is to acknowledge or declare that he is Lord. To confess one's sins is to acknowledge or admit one's sins.

RozRochelle 07-18-2007 09:50 PM

Profess or proclaim will work, too. :) What you wrote is one meaning of the word "confess". However, many words have multiple meanings depending on the context in which they are used. Also, in some translations of the bible, like the New King James Version for example, the word "confess" is used in Romans 10:9, which is what I was thinking about when I made my comment.

Thank you for the clarification. I have never heard "confess" used in that manner. :) (No sarcasm at all, seriously)

Rozrochelle, have you read every post on GC? Wow you are amazing. How do you know that members on here have not openly expressed their faith?

I'm a Christian. I'm the President of a local ministry, and have worked as Children's Ministry Coordinator and PR Coordinator for my church. I'm not afraid to say it. Nor am I afraid to say that I'm a PROUD member of Gamma Phi Beta and Gamma Sigma Sigma.

So I'm calling BS on this post.

Senusret I. He posted the pic in response to what I wrote to you, and my response to him was that the pic was funny and he was crazy. He's got jokes and he's one of the positive people on here. The pic was a joke. None of it was directed at you. :)

Thank you. I was very offended by her holier than thou post.

As I often say, paragraphs and white space are a posters best friends.

I for one will not criticize your sorority. Do you.

And RozRochelle, there have been many GCers who have openly confessed their love for the Lord. In the appropriate forums and threads.

And as I have done elsewhere, I will openly confess that I am not a Christian. But I do believe in a Higher Power--sometimes.
I do have one question: why not rename yourselves Iota Omicron Eta? Theta translates to "th", Omicron translates to "o."

I am confused at how you can have been involved with other GLO without having been a member - since according to the ITE website you are not allowed to be a member of more than one GLO? Not calling anyone out, just trying to ease my own confusion about your organization (other than the whole Protestant choosing-to-be-saved thing but that's a completely different discussion!)

RozRochelle 07-18-2007 10:45 PM

What I wrote was my observation and I stand by it. It doesn't mean that people on GC (besides me) have not confessed the Lord on here. It just means that when I've been on the boards before today, I hadn't seen it for myself.

Why would anyone have a problem with what that? I didn't make a blanket statement saying nobody ever confessed the Lord on GC. If I'd done that, you'd be right to call BS on the post, but I didn't.

If you have a response, please PM me. Ditto for anybody else. This is somebody else's thread and the topic's going off track. Thanks.

This defines a "blanket statement". Maybe you could have gotten away with the first sentence; however, the second sentence suggests that no one here is as strong as you are in their faith.

ETA: Quite frankly, I think it is a very pompus statement. Don't say it if you do not have the evidence to back it up.

RozRochelle 07-18-2007 11:00 PM

Just because I hadn't seen it didn't mean it didn't happen. I never made a blanket statement saying nobody on GC ever confessed the Lord. That would be offensive, because I can't speak for anyone else... and I didn't. I just said that I hadn't seen it, and at the time I posted, it was true. Why would that be cause for offense?

LPIDelta 07-18-2007 11:01 PM

Since this is Greekchat, and not a bible-based discussion board, I never thought about professing my spiritual beliefs here... and since I believe that my walk with the Lord is spiritual and personal, I won't be doing it now.

I am glad to see organizations which bring women together in faith or service or social--but I always wonder why they all choose to be sororities and take on Greek letters instead of just forming a "club", especially if they aren't on college campuses.

I made my point in my last post. And Heather's post is what I think most GC members who are Christians feel. This includes myself.

summer_gphib 07-18-2007 11:05 PM

In my own personal beliefs, it's better to live a quiet Christian life and lead by example, than to go around saying "I'm a CHRISTIAN hear me roar."

That doesn't mean that I haven't confessed Christ, I have. It just means I don't go around preaching on message boards.

But do whatever works for you. Looks like you are making a WONDERFUL impression of Christians and the Christian walk on all the GCers who don't know Christ.

I *heart* GC Snark!

RozRochelle 07-18-2007 11:11 PM

I simply said that I had not seen anyone besides me do it -- and at the time I wrote the post, it was true. I did not make a blanket statement and say that nobody had ever done it. Please re-read the post in question.

I did re-read it. You not only said that you had never seen anyone besides you do it, you said "If there are other believers here, they are afraid to take a righteous stand." That's a pretty blanket statement in my book.

RozRochelle 07-18-2007 11:41 PM

Taken out of context, which is what you have done, yes that quote does look incriminating. However, the comment was made based on me having not ever seen - and therefore not knowing - that there were other Christ-professing people on the boards. That was the context in which I was writing.

Now I do see that there are other Christ-confessing people on GC, and that's great. But as far as the "righteous stand" comment I made, now I raise this observation and question... You all (GC Christians) came out (and diverted the focus of this thread) to publicly take me to task for what I wrote, but how many of you have offered public support and encouragement to the original poster and her sorority?
