Hair dye stains on the bathtub...help!!!

Well...I just dyed my haiir a couple of hours ago--and I've tried so hard to get off those hair dye stains from my WHITE bathtub!! i've used tons of bleach, and rubbed and rubbed on the stain--it's not working! help!!

Any tips?

amycat412 04-10-2001 06:34 PM

what kind of dye did you use??

newbie 04-10-2001 06:37 PM

Arghhh...this is not good, huh? I used PERMANENT--yep...

See, it's b/c semi-permanents and temporary don't do anything to my hair!

amycat412 04-10-2001 06:39 PM

hmmmm....maybe some HEAVY duty cleanser from Rite Aid or something. Or call a hair salon and ask them.

I've gotten dye on the wall before and been unable to get it off. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif

LOL just saw your reply in the CA thread on the email coming soon!

newbie 04-10-2001 06:44 PM

Hey Amy! OK, Let me just get into my email account http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. You know what? My mother always dyes her hair--and she gets it over the bathtub and door too--but somehow she manages to get most of it out. There are still spots though, that are visible! But here's the thing--unfortunately, there are 3 streaks on the bathtub--NEW streaks which I'm sure she'll be able to notice right away! I don't know what to do--but maybe I can find some cleaning products in my house! What kind of "heavy duty" cleaners are there? Is Ajax considered one? My mom always uses that to clean the kitchen counters--and it works magnificently! But it has an awful smell, and I think it takes hours to work...ahh!

amycat412 04-10-2001 07:07 PM

yeah I think Ajax-- or one of those tub and tile mildew remover with bleach kinda things.

There's this stuff called Goo Be Gone ( i think) in a small bottle. It's kinda a goldish yellow color and it works wonders with stuff like this.

newbie 04-10-2001 07:18 PM

Thanks guys!

Gibbonsgal, where can I find GooBeGone?

newbie 04-10-2001 08:29 PM

Argghhh..this is horrible, I can't find any Ajax!! Yikes...I'm not supposed to go out today/tonight.

Theta-cutie 04-10-2001 09:16 PM

Yikes...you can't find the Ajax? Hmm...try shampoo!! I've tried that before, but that was when the "stain" was still wet--that worked! try that, hon! BTW, what color did you dye it? Good luck sweetie!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Sea Breeze, 10-0-6 or one of those other pimple killers with alcohol in it. Just put some on a cotton ball, hold it there for a moment and wipe.

I usually get it all over those silly little carpet bath mats that we all have in the bathroom! Then I run to K-mart and buy new ones! Hope all works out Car!

amycat412 04-10-2001 09:41 PM

try nail polish remover--that may do the trick too.

I *think* GooBeGone is just on the regular cleaning supply/soap/detergent aisle of a grocery store. Like I said it's a small bottle so you may have to search for it on the shelf. Happy Cleaning!

newbie 04-11-2001 04:34 PM

Thanks all! Unfortunately, 33 girl, I tried the astringent thing--it didn't work! BUt then I tried Rubbing Alcohol--and it works a BIT.

I guess the stain isn't coming off! Luckily my mom didn't notice--yet. Yikes.

CutiePie2000 04-11-2001 05:28 PM

How about acetone or something like that?
Or Dutch Miss or Dutch Boy (scratchy like AJAX).
Or something creamy like VIM?
Sounds like you've tried the full gamut.

newbie 04-11-2001 05:41 PM

Cutiepie, what is VIM? Thanks for the suggestions!!

Caity, I dyed it supposedly a medium golden brown!! Guess what color it turned out to be! A DARK DARK DARK black! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif As you know, my natural hair color is black, but this black is making my skintone look kinda dead! Oh well. I'm thinking of putting in highlights maybe! Will keep you posted!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hey Newbie--
As a rule, boxed dyes won't lighten your hair as they have little/no peroxide. They'll deposit color, but not lighten. To lighten you'd need to go to a beauty supply and get developer and dye and do it like that.

Awww, I'm sorry Car about that incident...

WEll, at least now you have some excuse for getting highlights right?! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Oops! My bad! Vim is a creamy cleanser, which is a bit abrasive, used for cleaning the tub, etc. and it is in Canada. I guess I assumed that in the USA, you have Vim, too.

I live in Canada, but I am sure that Vim is in USA, but maybe they call it something different (sometimes for Marketing, they have 2 different names for the same product for Canadian consumers and American consumers). http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif For example, Kellogg's cereal "Smart Start" in the USA is called "Vector" in Canada. Strange, huh?

Power Paste...it removes everything.

bucutie02 04-12-2001 03:24 PM

i had a question concerning highlights. What color would you get highlights if you have black hair without it looking fake? I am just wondering- i myself have dark hair- not black but very dark brown. Last summer i got highlights and they were pretty well done.

gibbonsgal 04-12-2001 07:43 PM

ok so silly me...went to dye my VERY blonde hair back to it's natural light brown...and guess what?? I RAN OUT OF COLORING!!! Hopefully it will all turn out ok and the zebra stripes won't be so bad..

Good luck gibbonsgal!! Haha, this is funny--seems like we're all in the hair-dyeing mode at the same time!!!!

I'm dying my naturally light-brown hair a gorgeous dark red http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. It's showing roots now, so I'm touching up--waiting 25 minutes for it to devleop--so i'm spending those minutes on GC!!!!!

Gibbonsgal, tell us how it turns out!

BUcutie--I hope Newbie or someone else w/dark hair can help you out, too, but I heard that auburn highlights and copper highlights are the best for people w/dark brown/black hair!

bubbles17 04-12-2001 08:43 PM

woo-hoo!! My dark red color turned out fabulous!!!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Much luck to gibbonsgal and to Newbie!! I LOVE HAIRCOLOR!

DBPM04 04-12-2001 08:48 PM

bu---i have super dark brown hair too...I have actually done red and blonde highlights...the blonde can look really cute...if it is done right....the red made my hair look darker...that wasn't what i wanted....i recently died my hair with a semi called cider and it tinted it a really pretty color....try that sometime...

gibbonsgal 04-12-2001 09:16 PM

Everyone's "good luck" must have helped. My hair is looking ok...much much different then my last 2 years as a plat. blonde. The color kinda evened out and looks if anything like a few blonde highlights and some redish looking stuff at my scalp also. Thank goodness I have off this Fri and Mon for Easter and can fix anything I decide to...

That's great gibbonsgal!! So is your hair back to a light brown w/a few blonde highlights? I'm sure it looks great!!

bucutie02 04-12-2001 09:50 PM

yeah... i think im going to try either blonde or copper toned highlights. I am going to visible changes- and having a color specialist do my hair so she should know what to do.
