Another new sorority... Iota Theta Eta???
Anyone ever hear of this Christian Sorority?
Just stumbled across it... http://www.iotathetaeta.org/ |
Possibly the only sorority ever founded by direct Divine revelation. Even their "pledging process" was given to their founder by God. He works in mysterious ways to be sure, but I'm not so sure this is one of them.
Ah, well whatever floats their boat. Sounds like they have thought it out. (First time I've seen ONE founder though) |
Yeah, I came across their site before. This is the one that promotes themselves as an alternative to traditional sororities, for those that want to align themselves with God 100%...yada, yada, yada...

As far as I know, and Wikipedia too.....Lambda Chi Alpha is only credited with one official founder, Warren A Cole, although there is probably more to that story.

I know, and I wasnt jumping down your throat or anything, I was just offering up a fact about another group having only one founder. I mean why would I expect you to have knowledge about every single group, or LXA for that matter, its not like I know much of anything about Sigma Kappa. I was just trying to enlighten the rest of the world on LXA!
|
Tom Earp deserves credit for founding his fraternity.
It was later absorbed by Lambda Chi.. but y'all have to recognize Tom Earp here. |
Shouldn't God have known that the first set of letters the founder came up with were already in use???

What I found humorous is that they call themselves DIVAs, apparently for "DIVINE * INSPIRATIONAL * VIRTUOUS * ANOINTED * SISTERS IN CHRIST." Ironic, since the modern word "diva" comes from Latin via ancient Italian and means "goddess." Oops. |

Just glancing through the website, I had to roll my eyes at the number of times that it was explained that this group was unlike other sororities because of their high moral fiber as compared to other groups... and yet it was also mentioned that they know nothing about how other groups function. Like "well, we know nothing about other sororities but we're completely different because they're all whores and drunks." This is the exact same you-can't-be-a-Christian-and-be-in-a-sorority attitude from non-Greeks that drives me crazy... and it's coming from women who are members of a Greek org!?! |

Did anyone else see the pics? I think I saw a handsign in there...Did God tell her what her handsign should be?
|
I wonder if the Lord also directed them to make their letters in the site's header flashing and neon - brings to mind a strip-joint or a casino more readily than a group of women dedicated to God...

you all are soo cold!
my only question is this: why was she picked out of all the women in the world, to start this org...god dont play favorites... |
Hmm, so many comments so little time.
Anyone else notice how they refer to their intake process as "bootcamp"? (they also refer to it as basic training on another page). |
reminds me of that hymn, "soliders of Christ, arise!"
|
First letters -
Alpha Eta Omega.
|
i'm trying really hard to be openminded, but a group founded by one person through "divine inspiration" sounds more like a cult to me...

I shouldn't be so mean. They're probably very nice people but the whole thing just doesn't sound right to me. |
that site has one too many ads on it...
|
That's basically what I'm thinking. Yeah it's nice and all... but something's a little weird about it.

Also, under the "herstory" section of the website, it's written that the Greek letter Theta translates to an English "o"

I didn't even notice but they're one of those "HERstory" groups? Oy.
Wait, I mean QU |

I think God has better things to do than to start a Greek Letter Organization. WEIRDos!!!!

That seriously, made my day! |
Y ME?
How come we, the AKA's, get the lunatic posts from Hatcher's Ministries bashing all the NPHC affliates because he cannot accept he's not part of the Trinity? :(

Oh....kay, their site offers "A fun presentation of the gospel." Well, finally! After around 1,950 years or so, and more translations from the Greek of the four Gospels than I could ever count, a "fun" one.
(Seriously, of course, the new sorority can do as it chooses, and may meet the needs and desires of some women.) |
That handsign looks strangely familiar....
Wait, its a reverse of ours! They taking our symbols and handsigns now... *Confused and dissappointed* Besides...who puts up pictures of their ritual? *Also, if you put up the ritual for everyone to see, maybe you should take better pictures or maki it a little nicer. Plastic tablecloth and a crown from Walmart really don't do it for me. I would give the initiate something really nice, at least a $20 tiara from ebay!* |
I hardly think we can even consider them anything like any of us in the GLO system. Did you happen to notice the names of their chapters? Alpha Genesis Omega, Alpha Koinonia Omega; last time I checked (and said the greek alphabet backwards with a lit match upside down), genesis and koinonia weren't greek letters. Aside from that technicality, there are a hundred and one other reasons why I would never consider them to be another version of the sisterhoods we all hold so dear to our hearts.

Holier-than-thou attitude is never something that appeals to me, and so their setting themselves up as the TRUE women of Christ, as they put it, annoys me.
But if you were the type of religious that these women appear to be (no alcohol for anyone, clubbing and bar hopping are displeasing to God, every member holds an protestant evangelical understanding of what it means to be saved, etc.), is there a GLO already out there who would meet your Bible-thumping needs? Personally, I think my GLO has a lot of truly devoted servants of God just as I think all GLOs probably do, but I completely understand why someone with as narrow a vision of Godly as the founder of that org holds is probably going to think that we NPC and NPHCers waste a lot of time on other stuff. |
