Baldwin Hills: BET Anyone Going to Watch?

I "heard" that Soror Vanessa Bell Calloway's daughter is a cast member. I don't know how true it is.

ChanelLover 07-10-2007 08:09 PM

I would watch, but at this point I feel like BET is on some other isht. These shows that they come up with are low budget knockoffs of MTV. I just think that its time to start putting more positive things on T.V.

TotallyWicked 07-10-2007 09:24 PM

i want to say I will...but this just looks like Laguna Beach/The Hills/Maui Fever/anyothershowaboutrichkidswhoseonlyconcernishooking up....I'm afraid I'm going to have to pass on this one

lilbay77 07-10-2007 11:01 PM

I'm not feeling this show at all.

Co-signing with you;).

Gina1201 07-11-2007 07:38 AM

It sucked. It did not hold my attention at all.

OneTimeSBX 07-11-2007 09:10 AM

i dont like watching super snotty teenagers who live off of/burn thru their parents hard earned (or lottery won!) money.

theres no way im wasting minutes of my life watching this crap.

zchi2 07-11-2007 09:14 AM

I really tried to watch it but it lost my attention within the first 30 seconds of the show. I like the idea of it to show a "different" side of the black community but they could of did it better. :(

whiteandblack 07-11-2007 09:35 AM

hell no.

MzJ25 07-11-2007 11:02 AM

It sucked(I'm in a pissy mood today so excuse me :p) I really don't enjoy watching snotty stuck up kids in their day to day life..N thank you.

I agree, BET is on some other ish right now and that hot ghetto mess show:eek: they have coming out is totally out of control:eek:. BET says they are using the show not to make fun of black people but to hold a mirror up to the face of the black community. Get outta here BET

AKA2D '91 07-11-2007 12:38 PM

I recorded the shows, so I'll watch them later. I was hoping that "we" could see something that wasn't as stereotypical as Charm School or Flava of Love. I guess compared to those shows, it would be boring. I'll see. Maybe it's something pre-teens and teens should see besides calling folks B* and the like.

yeah theyre on some "let's try to do what MTV does but put some "flava" on it" BS and its clearly not working. they can cut their losses with College Hill 4 and KIM.

I actually sat through the whole 2 episodes they showed. I too liked how they are doing both "sides" but I don't see how the girl from the hood ties into the show at all. it's like having a token just to say the show is balanced.

I do see what you are saying when comparing it to Flavor of Love minstrel type mess. However, the saw was not that interesting, but if I can force myself to watch 2 epsiodes of House of Payne I can see if I will like this show next week.

BTW the new game show SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!

20PearlGirl 07-11-2007 09:25 PM

It was really, really bad.:( Yes Soror Calloway's daughter is on the show, and she does NOT have her mother's looks. That is all I will say about that. ;)

I see that this is correct. Ashley's a "Honey Don't". :o

ETA: She's attractive. ETA2: Not that I'm like that, but you know. :p She reminds me of Keisha Knight Pulliam.

I thought I was the only one thinking that!

*ClassyKeshia* 07-12-2007 12:55 AM

The show so far is ok but i thought it would be a little better. I also agree that the "hood" girl serves no purpose at this point. I will give the show at least another week to GRAB my attention and if it doesnt well so long for Baldwin Hills!

chrini 07-12-2007 09:34 AM

I was surprised to see Gerren on the show. She was the girl who started modeling at 11 or 12, I think. I don't know how much of show is totally scripted but they have her just acting really wild and rude to her mom. Hopefully being in "industry" at such a young age has not made her this way. So I am guessing this is all an act.

Co-sign. I can't even stand watching Sweet 16 anymore because I just want to take a switch to those kids.

I guess the "hood 1" . .(gosh I felt bad 4 refering to her as that but I just can't remember her name :( ) she could potentially serve some purpose as it seems that she has that mutual guy friend that connects her to the others from the hills. Plus, she has a mild "friendship" with the other girl and the jelousy thing with the other intense 1. Maybe she gets weaved in later . . . idk . . 1 thing is for sure, it seemed that this show is geared for tweens and teens:rolleyes:

Steeltrap 07-14-2007 11:10 PM

I've been sucked into watching it. When I was in my early 20s, I lived in View Park, a nearby community, with great, parental-type landlady and landlord (who were a Delta and Omega, BTW). Also, I have met Soror Vanessa and have a picture with her, so I am curious about her Ashley.

I feel the exact same way. The show is soooo scripted. Why cant BET make the shows look nicer and come up with their own ideas? The show is wrong representation of kids from l.a.

kiml122 07-15-2007 04:04 PM

I saw both eps I think last Thursday and I was like why is Vanessa Bell Calloway in this awful acting mess, then I found out Friday that her actualy daughter is playing her actual daughter on gthe show, and all I can say is this show really does suck. Th acting of you can call it that is really, really bad.

I'm not trying to be funny, but how are kids from LA?

*ClassyKeshia* 07-18-2007 01:46 PM

Well Im totally convinced that Baldwin Hills is very boring after seeing the 2nd episode I am still not very "Moved" by the show. However Greek and The best Years are 2 new shows that i loved from the 1st episodes!

Steeltrap 07-18-2007 01:50 PM

I watched last night and am slowly being sucked into it. I admit that I was intrigued by Elaine Theus. Reggie was one of the classic pretty boys back in the day and wondered who he married. Roqui looks like her mom.

Ten/Four 07-19-2007 07:58 PM

I've been watching it also. It's not completely horrible, but the narration throws it off a little. I'll continue watching, but it does not "move" me in the same way Laguana Beach and The Hills do. So far my favorite person is Staci. Except for the cursing she's cool.

I so agree with you! I thought I was the only person that like The Best Years (and let me say - that after she would have turned me purple, I would kicked Kathryn's @$$ but I digress).

I tried to watch Baldwin Hills and it put me to sleep. :(

Ok, I missed the ep the other night, so are you saying that Roqui is Reggie Theus daughter, he was a serious honey dip back in the day...I loved going to the games when his team came to town to play the Sixers just to see his fine-self.

Thanks for the Co-Sign on The Best Years :). But I want to see the next episode of Baldwin Hills to see how the "ghetto" girl acts at the party

GRITS 07-23-2007 02:01 AM

I'm really trying to give Baldwin hills a chance but IMO, the whole "other side of the tracks" girl just throws it off...but it's new so we'll see!

PhDiva 08-09-2007 03:06 AM

I think this show could be half-way decent if the focus was on the adults who were able to make it to Baldwin Hills (either by hard work or family legacy) and the issues they deal with with regards to class in the Black community. But then that might be a show better suited for TV One or even BETJ.

I taught jr. high in L.A. for three years. I don't want to come home and relive that misery again on television. Their team of writers/producers need a swift kick in the a$$. Where is the balance? Damn, can we get just 30 minutes of news from an African American perspective?

Co-sign that.

rhoyaltempest 08-15-2007 12:03 PM

I'm sorry but Moriah and Gerren look like brother and sister and not a little bit either, a lot. Don't you just hate to see couples like that? I know I do...it's creepy.

Blacksocialite 08-17-2007 05:37 PM

Baldwin Hills

I have tried to give this show a shot but it really plucks my nerves.

It's a good concept (in terms of featuring lifestyles of the Black upper middle class) but the cast is so wooden.

I understand MTV is still trying to cast in Martha's Vineyard for a Black uppper middle class version of 'The Hills.'

RBL 08-20-2007 11:53 AM

sigh.. this show is the worst

Ditto. I tried to watch the episodes on demand this weekend but they failed to keep my attention. The situations are so contrived and obvious. Like you know they are going for a walk with someone only to create another "scene." All reality shows probably do it but this one does it without a lick of finesse!:(

pretty510 08-22-2007 07:14 PM

B.E.T. is now run by a bunch of white men in a boardroom. Any show of quality will not make the air. If you want to see bafoonery, comedy, or anything degrading, B.E.T. is your channel.
