I have to admit I'm hoping for the off chance that it's at Florida, but I'm pro SEC in general :) Looking forward to your thread . . .

Mayberry without the movie theater !! I love it!

I love to hear about fraternity recruitment, as I really didn't know much about it during college, dating darling dorm guys. Tell on!

I'm gonna go with Josh, because I adore southern gentlemen.

I'm also gonna go ahead and guess this is happening at Tennessee!

Hahaha, I love this -I know boys juuuust like this...and they're my favorites! I'm rooting for Tim :) (although I get the feeling you most likely will not end up there lol)

Senusret I 07-10-2007 11:38 AM

I'm rooting for Brad!

(They sound the most like APhiA in this story so far, lol)

I was definitely thinking that too. That is probably the most prestigious school in Jacksonville.

Goooooooo BRAD!

ufpiphi 07-12-2007 04:32 PM

Hmm tents outside the houses. A presitgious house amongst a few smaller fraternities. A large mansion off campus where students who attended Stanton were at.
Maybe this is at Florida . . . :)

But I've never seen fraternity rush elsewhere so I have little to go on in guessing the OP's location!

FSUZeta 07-12-2007 05:57 PM

boo brad!

LOVEinZTA 07-12-2007 07:26 PM

Well it seems that your having a relatively clear-cut rush, choices being made for you and all! I say forget the math homework for the next hour and just completely indulge us. :D

Are you doing work on ALEKS? I hated ALEKS with a passion and never met my hours requirement. haha.

Go JOSH! Like I originally said!!

notmanhattan 07-13-2007 01:34 AM

Maybe it's a southern thing? haha.

I had to use it for remedial math (I'm math retarded) and for college algebra this year.

I hate how the program never recognizes answers that are considered appropriate according to the teacher. Blah! I'm so glad I never have to worry about that crap ever again. My sincerest sympathy :(

I can't wait to hear the rest of your story!

key*key 07-13-2007 08:10 AM

Now I really really like this one!

WOW. This one is great. You are a great writer and I see this sensitive side to you. I really do hope you get the right house and love it! Love this! LOL

Dougie 07-13-2007 04:09 PM

These things are such a guilty pleasure.... keep it up.

ZTAngel 07-13-2007 08:15 PM

I went to UCF so I'm kinda familiar with the UF Greek system. I'm not 100% sure what each of the fraternities you listed are but I'm going to guess that you visited SAE, Sigma Chi, KA, ATO and Phi Delt. I think Brad might be SAE and Tim might be KA. I could embarrassingly wrong though. :) The last time I actually hung out at the UF fraternity houses was my senior year (graduated in '03) when I went to visit some UF friends during Gator Growl. I'm sure the Greek system has changed somewhat since then.

Ocalagirl 07-13-2007 08:47 PM

Well in order for him to be KA his rush would have had to be a long time ago like ten years (something like that) or fall 2006 since KA just came back to campus. I say Sigma Chi (which I know a couple guys), ATO, or TKE (all great chapters at UF). I have spent a lot of time in Gainesville and have a good friend in Theta who has told me about their Greek system. I am glad you found your home!

LOVEinZTA 07-13-2007 10:07 PM

oh good lord, enough with the guessing, just spit it out!

ufpiphi 07-13-2007 10:20 PM

Whoo hoo I was right :)

As for my guesses as to who is who . . .

Garth is certainly ATO. "Old money, party hard" and a "mansion" off campus where Stanton students could be easily found.

Dierks had me a little stumped. My immediate guess was KA, because of the reference to their appearance imitating that of boys from Alabama or Mississippi. Plus they served beer. But this is obviously SAE because you mention not once but twice the stairs leading up to the main level. SAE's house is entered on the second floor. Try climbing those stairs in heels for announcing! It's brutal! Plus, I remember their rush being shut down, I have a few friends in that house.

Brad must be Sig Ep. It's reputation is known amongst greeks and non-greeks alike and guys always want to rush Sig Ep. The only thing that throws me off here is the mention of a downstairs eating area. There dining room is on the main floor of the house but it all depends on where you enter the house from. It's many wings and levels can be confusing. I have to admit to being a little surprised this made your list of houses to visit, you seem much better fitted for your other choices . . .

I'm going to take a chance and say that KA is Tim. My only hesitation is I don't know when you rushed and for the life of me I cannot remember which year SAE got in trouble for serving beer. It was either 05 or 06. KA was off campus only for the 05-06 school year. So if you rushed in 04 or 06, this could easily be KA. "Classiest rednecks around" is a description I've heard many times of KA. But, I'm a girl who grew up on a cattle ranch in an extremely small town (something you and I have in common) so those guys remind me of my friends back home.

Josh is Sigma Chi. Your clues here were telling for me: a well known creed and a house surrounded by several smaller fraternities (right in the middle of UF's fraternity row).

How'd I do?

Thanks for such a great thread. You're a wonderful writer and it was really nice to hear a guy's perspective at rush, made better for me since it's at UF. You joined a wonderful house.

BUT

Kappa Sigma was on the field my semester (Fall 06) while they were between houses, and they were surrounded by very small groups- all the new/recolonizing fraternities.

Yes, I joined Kappa Sigma and have loved every single minute of it. In the end, my friend who pledged Brad dropped....along with nine of his pledge brothers. He came back to us the next semester and pledged with two of his pledge brothers from Brad.

HELL YEAH! AEKDB BROTHER!

ufpiphi 07-14-2007 08:30 AM

Why on earth did I not think of Kappa Sig? They were our (Pi Phi's) next door neighbors during my pledge year. Plus I'm friends with quite a few of those guys (especially the many of you involved with SG). It honestly slipped my mind that Sigma Nu took back their house and Kappa Sig had the "Alamo" this year. Great group of guys, you certainly should be proud of the reputation ya'll have built in the last few years.

Your new house is going to be stunning, I know ya'll must be excited. I hope you're living there?

FSUZeta 07-14-2007 09:23 AM

fabulous thread. i loved that you had us all stumped. congratulations on finding the right fit for you!

Congrats on Kappa Sig!!! My fiance (who I'm marrying in 2 weeks :) ) is a Kappa Sig alum from UCF.

I've heard that Kappa Sig at UF has been doing really well over the past few years. A friend of mine from HS was apart of the first pledge class when Kappa Sig recolonized back in 2000.

Ocalagirl 07-14-2007 11:39 AM

Congrats!! I didn't think about Kappa Sigma either even though I know they are a well known fraternity. I guess I just didn't think of them being as southern as KA. I liked your story.

ps. UFpiphi: I went looking for your house last Monday since it was the only one I had never seen. I love the new color of your house(I saw painting crews so I assume they repainted) . It took me a little while to find, but gorgeous. Probably one of the prettiest (from the outside) at UF.

Aww thank you! You did assume correctly, our house used to be a baby pink color, sort of like Barbie's dream house :p. We affectionately called it the "Pink Palace". I have to admit though, I really love the yellow, it makes the colonial style stand out more than the pink did.

ZTA72 07-15-2007 08:42 PM

My FIL is a Kappa Sigma from UF and my MIL is a Sigma Kappa from UF,waaaaaaaay back. Great thread, loved it!

Since SECdomination pledged Kappa Sigma which is Josh, (congrats by the way), then that leaves Brad as Sigma Chi.
