Alumnae, are you helping with recruitment this fall?

It's getting close to that time of year, so I thought I'd ask!

How many GC alumnae are helping with recruitment (whether at your collegiate chapter or elsewhere)?

I'll be assisting my collegiate chapter for three days of formal recruitment. I'll be doing behind the scenes paperwork stuff for Go Greek & Philanthropy Day. I will also be assisting with food prep for Preference Day and Bid Night.

I sure wish I could! I was going to help the A D II chapter where a friend is the advisor, but I'll be out of the country. :( Maybe next time . . . I really miss working with collegians!

Drolefille 07-07-2007 01:01 PM

I am, I just don't know what yet :D

_Lisa_ 07-07-2007 03:38 PM

I'll be helping with the first day, but don't have the vacation days at work to take off during the week. I've helped out 3 times in the last 4 years & always enjoy seeing all the hard work the girls put into recruitment.

amanda6035 07-08-2007 09:36 AM

I am! I'm helping at my chapter, and also at the chapter I'm going to be an advisor for probably starting in december. I'm not sure exactly what I'll be doing yet - I'm just going to be at beck and call. :D

lauralaylin 07-08-2007 10:29 AM

I'm helping out a few chapters, but I may be doing all of it from afar. I certainly hope this isn't the case as I love love love recruitment. I've been going to rush parties every semester since I joined in 1998!

lstorey 07-18-2007 04:48 PM

I usually help out in some way...however I am past the days where I go and help for all of recruitment and spend hours and hours there. now if I go it is just for a few hours and a few of the days, not all. But I did attend nearly everything for 13 years as chapter advisor...at some point I got burned out and so now I do it in moderation. Plus it is time for other alumnae to step in and assist!

TNPhiMu 07-19-2007 11:49 AM

I'll be around for my chapters recruitment as much as I can. I'm financial advisor now (and the youngest of the advisors), so they like for me to be around. As of now, I'll be at our Open House night along with the chapter advisor and then around for Theme & Pref. Night to do just whatever I can (usually, herding alums to where they should be, running to get food for the Membership director who hasn't had a spare moment to get food, making last minute runs to the store for extra balloons or candles because we can't find them, etc. etc.). I'm just glad that my younger sister-in-law (who is also a Phi Mu there, woo hoo!) has an on campus apartment that I can crash in this year!

ZTABullwinkle 07-19-2007 05:50 PM

I would like to help out with recruitment. I don't think the alumnae will be getting much about specifics till about a week before recruitment starts, which is normal.

ThetaDancer 07-20-2007 10:48 AM

My collegiate chapter has deferred recruitment, so last winter I sent some flower arrangements, which they used to help make the house look even better. The actives seemed to really appreciate it and it was a nice way to show I cared even though I couldn't be there for recruitment. If you're far away from a chapter or don't have time to spend on recruitment this year, that might be a good way to help!

This fall I will try to make it to Madison to help out if I can.

orchid2 08-16-2007 12:28 PM

I would really like to. However, I am traveling on business during most of my chapter's recruitment week and would only be able to make it for pref... I am certainly going to try.

Kevin 08-16-2007 12:29 PM

I always donate $ to the cause.

AnchorAlumna 08-16-2007 01:03 PM

Oh, how I wish I could! I have to work for my slave-driver husband.
My daughter pledged a different sorority from mine. They invited moms down to help, so I went. I was very apprehensive and thought it couldn't be more fun than helping with my own group.
But...it was! I really enjoyed getting to know the other moms. I even found a mother who was in my sorority...she was in a chapter I advised a hundred years ago in another state!

I counted votes last night (philanthropy round /9 parties) ...I wish I had been there the night before when they were really slammed. Next year I'll be there earlier in the week. Most of the hard work happened from 6:00 on until 2am. So any alums who have 8 to 5 jobs, don't think they can't use you after regular working hours. I loved it. I wish I could be there tonight.

MSKKG 08-17-2007 04:08 PM

Yes, as usual. I try to go to USC (South Carolina) every year for recruitment as much as I can. I will be there on Wednesday and Friday with PKTKKG :D, and then Saturday for Pref. I may or may not get to Bid Day on Sunday.

HeavenslilAngel 08-19-2007 11:55 PM

I helped my chapter just yesterday. I was clean up crew and drink server.

KSUViolet06 08-21-2007 02:10 PM

My chapter's Work Week is going on right now, i'm actually heading over to the house in a little bit with some other alumnae to play "PNMs" for the actives during their "mock rush".

hannahgirl 08-22-2007 08:40 PM

I'll see you this fall Jocelyn! I've been slightly MIA most of the summer because of the wedding, but am back and ready to go! Recruitment starts in a little more than 2 weeks!

honeychile 08-22-2007 09:52 PM

We're allowed to miss?

I'm scheduled for the Recruitment Workshop, and will be at a party or two.

fire1977 08-23-2007 09:20 PM

What day is your workshop?

Welcome back! I hope your wedding was wonderful! Best of luck to you and DG this year. I've heard that there are 40 girls already signed up and school hasn't started! It'd be awesome to see quota in the 20's again this year.

Benzgirl 08-26-2007 07:25 PM

September Recruitment

I have contacted the local chapter, but have not heard anything from them. Would like to do what I can

Benzgirl 08-27-2007 09:35 PM

Receivd a call from the Alumnae Chapter and Looks like I am working first and second round parties. Would have liked to work Pref, but I'll be out of town that night.
She asked me to observe and give feedback, since I came from a much larger chapter. Although, that was 25 years ago.

KDAngel 08-27-2007 11:45 PM

GW's Panhellenic has asked for help, so while they don't have KD on their campus I'll be helping them out in October. :)

I can't wait to see how their recruitment differs from ECU's.

KSUViolet06 09-23-2008 12:37 PM

I'll be assisting my collegiate chapter during the first day of recruitment. I have school and church commitments on the other 2 days.

basket96 09-23-2008 04:38 PM

Honeychile you said it! I didn't know I had an option! LOL

I'll be there as much as my family will allow! After advising for MANY years, I have to scale it back, just a bit, in order to keep the family from revolting!

Kansas City 09-23-2008 05:08 PM

As the adviser, I assisted a few weeks ago and the chapter wound up with quota+5! It was a great time but after 4 days of living in the dorms again and being around a bunch of 20-year-olds, I was totally exhausted and ready to get back to my 30-something life.

Jill1228 09-23-2008 06:38 PM

Um yeah...I am on the advisory board at local university. :)

ThetaPrincess24 09-23-2008 08:06 PM

Yes I'm on the advisory and facility corp. boards for my chapter at EKU.

kchaptergphib 09-23-2008 10:41 PM

Oh, yeah. I'll be living in Evanston again:p for a week in January, as Northwestern has deferred Recruitment.
This is the first year that I haven't helped out with a fall FR too, though, so I'm going through withdrawl! Thank God for GC!

And thanks to all the fellow alumnae who sacrifice sleep, healthy meals, family and friends, and work to come and help out! I think I speak for all of us advisors when we say thank you for coming and helping us and your collegiate sisters! It's what the lifetime membership is all about.

ZTAmillz 09-24-2008 11:22 AM

I just finished up with Informal recruitment last night. Being the general advisor, I try and be at all recruitment events. This year I have some great support from other advisors.

I join the previous poster in thanking all of you who work hard with the young women of today. I know that I get just as much out of it, as I put in.

ZTA is forever. =)
