Favorite item (other than badge)
What is your favorite GLO item other than (of course) your badge?
I think mine would have to be my pledge book, back from the bad ol' days when pledges were hazed by having to interview every member and get their signature. I learned so much about my sisters! |
my faves
Other than my badge, I would have to say my family mug. In my chapter, mugs are given to pledges by their father/big. Mine is an important part of my pledge period.
BTW, i know most pledges get paddles from their dads/bigs, but we actually give them to our dads. |
Wooden Badge we make during initiation week and get signed.

So many to choose from, but probably my framed copy of our Creed. It keeps me grounded.
|
I have a ton, but my favorite is my boat given to me by my Big (i.e. my chapter decorates and exchanges them like paddles).
|
Other than my badges, my most prized SAI/Phi Sig stuff is-
My SAI bid card which I had beautifully framed with red and white in a very pretty black frame. It hangs above my desk so I can oogle at it ever day. :p Then again, when I went to headquaters two weeks ago and got a personal tour from Ruth Johson, she gave me a bunch of SAI stuff. So, maybe the picture I have of her and I singing the choral is a close second. And, there's also my SAI scrapbook.....gosh, too many choices! My Phi Sig initiation folder is the most prized phi sig posession I have. Finishing that damn folder was quite the achievement. I will NEVER throw it away. But, then again, I do have my phi sig scrapbook that I love also. Over the weekend, I plan on doing a "Toga Party" page. |
My favorite thing is probably a silver charm bracelet that my big gave me for initiation. It has star, palm tree, and crown charms, along with an oval that has our crest on it. I wear that a lot more than letters.
|
My Life Member certificate. Also, a picture I took of our founder (she's still alive AND comes to conventions).

I have a bracelet, but honestly... one of my favorite things are my photo albums :)

right now, it's a silver necklace with a poodle charm. it's hard to find poodle... anything. well cute poodle stuff. but all time, i'd say our history book - i read it like it's a novel sometimes!
|
Right now my favorite thing is my sigma flip-flops...I always have then on! It's summer, and I have a major flip-flop addiction! :D
But other than those and my badge, I'd have to say this crystal sailboat that is on my mantel...it was actually given to me by one of my guy friends right after college...he knew how much Sigma means to me and although he didn't know the exact symbolism of the sailboat, he knew it was on of our symbols. I've had the crystal sailboat for about 10 years now, and every time I think about it, I remember that in life we must move "ever forward" |
If I had to choose one item it would have to be a plaque that was given to me by a Brother living in NY, but originally initiated in Fla. The plaque is a Theta Kappa Nu Coat of Arms that looks made of brass mounted onto a larger black wooden badge. He took alot of time and effort to make a few of these and then sent them to about 9 or 10 brothers for Christmas last year. He did all of the polishing of the Crest and actually creating the wooden portion of this plaque, and mine, as I am sure the others that he sent out, is inscribed on the back.
For those of you who dont know, Theta Kappa Nu was one of the largest fraternity mergers in history (or was up until a few years ago) and joined with Lambda Chi Alpha way back in 1939. So to get something as significant as this without ever meeting the Brother in person means alot to me and helps to define a little better in my mind the true meaning of Brotherhood. Now I just need to post a picture! |
my favorite is a little more cryptic...i have a fake candle that holds a special memory, and a beautiful Lambda Psi Delta candle holder that i keep it in.
|
My bid card, installation program and photo of my chapter with our new charter.

Here is the picture of the plaque I was talking about:

Fave stuff
I thought about this for a moment and I have two items that tie as my favorite. The first is my T-Shirt quilt I had made with all my Zeta shirts (I only saved one set of stitched letters) when I graduated school. I even have a pair of zeta shorts in it! Love it!!
The second is my banner. It was a local tradition at TTU for bigs to have banners made for their littles, and they are given when you get initiated. They are quilted wall hangings done in "family" patterns. They have your chapter name, etc on them. You get the same pattern as your big/family (Mine has a large angel (our local mascot), with a crown in the corner.) Your big picks fabrics that are special for you. Mine is in silver, tie-dye purple and checkered flag. I know that sounds pretty tacky. I remember when I went through recruitment, and each chapter we visited had all these quilted things hanging on the walls with everyone's name, each a little different, but all chapters at my school had banners in some form. I remember DG's anchor ones being really cute too. |
My favorite non-sentimental thing is my small totebag. It's black and has purple letters, so it doesn't SCREAM sorority at you. I carry it all the time.
My favorite sentimental thing is the puzzle and paddle my big gave me on reveal night. |
I'm liking the new ladybug totes that we just got!
|
I've bought quite a few historical or older Kappa things on eBay. I have two bracelets (one ID-style and one charm), a crest ring and an old book of Kappa songs I love.
|
My favorite is the scrapbook that my big made for me. All of the bigs made fabric covered photo albums for their littles, and the fabric on my scrapbook matches the fabric on my panda padle. Anyway, I stuffed anything sorority related into that scrapbook so when I flip through it now I can look back on everything from rush through senior wills.
|
My favorite item is most definitely the pearls I got after initiation.
I wore them for almost 2 weeks straight... lol. Pretty girls wear..... ;) |
My favorite item(s) are my collection of antique DG memoriabilia that I have collected over the years, including a song book and old Anchoras.

==============o<Crest>o================ It was diamond-shaped with the crest in the middle, a hole on each of the long ends, with two chains coming from each side to form the bracelet. Seeing your post, I instantly thought of it. |
I can't decide which is my favorite!
My most sentimental 2 are the sweatshirt I got from my big - which I still wear 12 years, some little holes and a little gold paint later, and the paddle I got from my National Little Sister (she was a colony member/founding sister of the Penn State Altoona chapter!). Another is a gift that doesn't even have letters on it. My girls (I just finished my first year as CA...) got me a frame that says "Sisters" in the corner, it's engraved with "With Love, Gamma Rho" and there's a picture of all of us at the formal. It's awesome! And, lastly, a story that a past National President told us in 1995 that brought tears to my eyes, and still does every time I tell the story. It made me proud to be her sister. She is missed...... |
I have to say that other then my Quill, my favorite items are my lavaliere that my Big gave me for my birthday and my family stitches that I got from my Big on Initiation Day.
|
Bumping this thread to proclaim my love for the pair of sweatpants I bought at Convention. These are my fave lounge item.

Good bump!
PeppyGPhiB got be thinking about my Chartering memorabilia - all favorites of mine - the picture of the chapter with the Chartering Proclamation hangs above my desk, we all look so happy. I also have an awesome picture of me holding the Chartering Proclamation above my head (think Lion King) after I received it from our "AA" smiling and crying all at the same time that I cherish - I'm so glad someone captured that moment. However, I think the thing I love more than all of those (and probably even more than my badge, if you can believe it) is my copy of the Cornerstone, our pledge manual. I read it in its entirety the night I received it, and I flip through it at least once a month for inspiration and wisdom. |

i had a beautiful silver bracelet-the links were five pointed crowns and there was a crest dangle. i passed it down to my daughter when she was initiated, and she loves it as much as i do.
|
I have a few favorite things:
- My Big Brother's first set of letters and my first set of letters - My bid - Something secret and special that I carry in my wallet :) - A glass that I have that is etched with letters and our coat of arms which arrived the day I ended my Sigma program. |

I have two favorite items:
I have my bid card and a cross stitched letters, with my name stitched underneath, framed in one of those double frames. I also have a pledge box, decorated in letters, with my pledge sisters' names written on it, that has some secret items that were significant to my pledge period. |
I posted this in a similar thread (here):
My shingle (hanging on my office wall). My paddle. My probationary member (i.e., pledge) hat: a golf hat with ΦΜΑ on the front and the signatures of all my brothers from when I pledged all over it. My collection of Sinfonian Songbooks -- I have all but the first two editions (1908 and 1914). If only I knew what happened to my bid card. :( |
I have an engraved Kappa ring that I wear every day. It looks like this:
