Typical A.C.T. Score

I'm curious as to what the average score is for people taking the A.C.T. test now.

What is the average score in your region or at the school(s) you are either applying to or attending?

KSUViolet06 07-02-2007 02:33 PM

I believe the average is a 21 for most freshman entering my alma mater. When I first took the test in my junior year I think that was the average score for students in my area. I got a 25. The minimum score to be considered for any scholarship was a 21 ACT and a GPA of 3.2 or better.

These are the stats for the high school graduating class of 2006. Page 12 has the national percentiles.

I had a 31, but I don't think that's "typical."

AlphaFrog 07-02-2007 03:30 PM

I had a 28, but I would have done much better if I wasn't sunburt beyond belief at the time. Although, I couldn't believe that Trig actually UPPED my score.

33 :D

27 was the low end of what the schools I looked at (Midwest, private and large public) were expecting if you wanted scholarships. I don't know what the actual minimum or average was.

My daughter got a 29 - she took it in April. I offered to get her a tutor for math (her achille's heel) but I don't think she wants to go through the torture again!
She is in the 94% percentile nationally; 96% in the state.

Here is Princeton Review's list of colleges and universities with 25 and 75 percentile ranges for various standardized tests.

I got a 34, but I think the grading scale has changed. My alma mater's middle 50% (according to Princeton Review) is 27-33.

I took it 10 years ago so take that with a grain of salt.

I got a 32 back in 1994. My friend, who was second in our elementary school graduating class, got a 29.

Seriously. I don't think my middle school even ranked.

Mine didn't. I know I was in the top 15 in the district, but I only know that because they pulled us out to form an Honors class.

nikki1920 09-17-2007 01:58 PM

I got a 28 and a 31 on the reading part in 1994 when I took it.
I have NO idea what that means now..

BigRedBeta 10-12-2007 10:46 PM

I got a 34 in 2000. I still have one friend who got a 33 on it that I hold my score over his head (simply because he's the most competitive person I know and it still bugs him ;))

BadCat25 10-18-2007 10:59 PM

For my school the mid 50% range for our current freshman class is 29 to 33. For my class two years ago I think it was a point lower.

christiangirl 10-18-2007 11:35 PM

I think I got a 27 back in 2002. I feel lame compared to everyone else in here. It was good compared to my classmates and I had no tutoring, so.....

Infamous12 10-22-2007 11:13 AM

I got a 26 three times in a row. It was back in 2001 & 2002. I don't remember what my rank was in highschool...top 30 percent or something? I took 3 APs and was in Honors, AA and all that jazz too. My rank isn't high at all, lol, but my HS is ranked as #34 in the nation for public high schools. Ohio considers it the 'crown jewel' of the public school system

ETA: I am still upset that I got the same score THREE times. I kinda' took a class after the first one ( I got the book and went when I wasn't vacationing or sleeping, lol) but clearly it did NOTHING to my results the second or third time around. I took the SAT only once, since I figured my score wouldn't change much there either - it was in the 1200s. *shrug* Stupid tests...hate those tests.
