Rainbow's on her feet? (Footwear)

Anybody know what type of shoe this is? Apparently a big hit with the sorority women? Image? Anyone?

Thanks.

It is a flip flop, usually brown.

AlphaFrog 06-28-2007 05:46 PM

I really don't think they're anything special.

Who wants to pay $40 for a flip flop?

Denise_DPhiE 06-28-2007 08:40 PM

Thanks. I thought those were for gay pride (not kidding, not meant in a bad way)

Hmm - so they are like Reefs but not as cool.

My favorites were the J Crew Critters (pineapple, etc like grograin ribbon flip flops)

$40 for flip flops though, yeesh!

PiKA2001 06-28-2007 10:33 PM

Rainbows are well worth the 40-50 dollars they cost, they are no doubt the best brand out there. Reefs are a little too pacific sunwear for me, plus rainbows are better looking.

Rudey 06-29-2007 12:44 AM

Rainbows outlast reefs, look better, and feel extremely comfortable. Havianas are good for flip flops that take abuse. Reefs are for douche bags and fat chicks.

Trey_P-I_47 06-29-2007 01:36 AM

I must agree with Rudey, I specifically bought reefs as 'shower flops' (I didnt want me feet touching the floors in the communal dorm showers.....gross ) so they were basically my cheap, crappy flops and my rainbows are my everyday wear, either that, a nice pair of Topsiders, or my favorite but least worn shoes, the Cole Haan Driving shoe...absolutely amazing, its like walking on air, they dont get much better.

PeppyGPhiB 06-29-2007 03:15 AM

If you go to the surfer shops in Southern Calif., there are walls covered in all kinds of flip flops. When I was in college, I bought a pair of Reefs, because that's what everyone had. That was 10 years ago, and I still have those flip flops! They're the best pair of footwear I've ever had!!! :D

I just bought some really cute Sanuk flip flops on my recent trip to CA, plus these Kustom ones (but in tourquise):

SoCalGirl 06-29-2007 03:24 AM

My Sanuk's are my all time favorites!!!! They're sooooo comfy. :D

Lil' Hannah 06-29-2007 08:20 AM

I wear my Rainbows almost every day. They go with everything...well worth the $40.

AlwaysSAI 06-29-2007 08:48 AM

I've heard that rainbows are REALLLLLLLLY comfortable. Apparently, they eventually form to fit the shape of your foot.

I've wanted a pair for a really long time, but I have flat feet and they have an arch in the middle. I have always wondered if the arch would go away after I had worn them for a while.

They became really popular while I was in high school. They were THE flip flops to have.

ForeverRoses 06-29-2007 09:01 AM

Okay I'm showing my age here, but are Rainbows to today's college kids what Birkenstock's were to mine (early/mid 90s). Basically expensive but indistructible sandals that mold to your feet that you never want to take off even though they look like crap?

Ding, ding, ding...we have a winner.

alum 06-29-2007 09:22 AM

I think Rainbows are cuter than Birkenstocks.

Personally I never wear flipflops although my D has way too many pairs to count. I find it uncomfortable to have something between my toes.

im no racist by anymeans but wat is it with white girls and flip flops

Nice comeback. I think we've found our newest candidate for the ignore feature.

I see people of all colors wearing flip flops. My kids go to an ethinicallly diverse daycare and they had to ban flip flops because so many of the kids were wearing them and getting hurt when they played outside.

Birkenstocks have a bad rep now of only being worn by hippies or lesbians

Now...but I do remember them being popular 10 or so years ago.

Oh I think I forgot that we can only talk about what white people do, not black. Sorry!

And to think that's all I wear. I tore all the muscles in the bottom of my foot and hyperextended my knee last summer. Those are the only shoes that feel good. I have a lot of different ones though.

I also have a pair that are very similar to this, but have cute tassles.

I am not a lesbian... and not a hippie! :D

ForeverRoses 06-29-2007 01:12 PM

Those are really cute. Much better than the "Jesus Sandals" Birkenstocks that we used to wear. And those are much cuter than the Rainbows from page 1 (in my opinion).

No because they don't look like crap. People wear flip flops to clubs and lounges. You wear birks if you smoke the pot, are a vegan, and you know, enjoy sex with animals.

I'd rather cut off my legs and ride in a wheelchair. You should reconsider.

Are you that guy on Jerry Springer that cut his legs off for no good reason? Just sayin'... :p

This made the whole expensive flip-flop trend so much clearer to me.

And anyone who thinks the pair of Rainbows shown on the front page is a particularly attractive shoe isn't really well qualified to disparage the appearance of Birkenstocks.

Trey_P-I_47 06-29-2007 09:44 PM

So you are saying that all of the millions of people who own Rainbows are lacking in the fashion sense area. I thought that if it was something that people liked and thought looked good, they usually bought them, and as other people thought they looked good, they too invested in such an item. Well I guess the majority of people must be wrong here

You're retarded. Is that clear, lucid, or translucent enough for you?

Yeah, but just barely. Weren't we in the same classes in high school?

Those rainbows are so nice; you must be right.

I only wear Birks too! (although I am somewhat of a hippie) My sisters were shocked when I showed up to initiation in a pair of regular white dress shoes - it was the first time they had ever seen me in ANYTHING but Birkenstocks, lol. :)

Recently, I've been hearing that black people don't wear flip-flops. WTF?! I know that DMX gave Jay-Z some static for being seen wearing them, but an entire race of people don't wear them at all?

That means I have to get rid of my Havaianas! :(

Lots of people wear Crocs, but that hardly makes them not ugly. Just saying. (I own a pair of knockoff Crocs for work.)

How can we turn a thread about flip-flops into a racial thing?

How about we stick to the subject (flip-flops) so the thread can stay open?

Are you suggesting we do both? Because it would totally happen.

DeltAlum 07-02-2007 12:54 AM

I'm suggesting that you guys talk about the shoes instead of which ethnic, racial or religious group wears what.

Why go down that road?

What had happened was....*sigh*

I actually meant that her comeback was nice. When I thought we had someone to ignore, I was referring to omegaland with his dumb remark about white people and flip flops. That's one of the dumbest things I've read in some time on GC. Flip flops are universal and comfortable as all get out. Some folks pay more than others, but that's what they can do.

Some folks like controversy, but that's on them. I like flip flops, and so do millions of others. No racism on my part.

When I first read it, I construed the "Nice comeback" as sarcastic. Then, as I thought about it, I figured out that you were being sincere. Especially since that omegaland has proved to have the posting ability of a 5 year old. But I do see how people got confused. When you quote someone, and then mention putting someone on ignore, it's assumed that it's directed at whomever you quoted, unless otherwise clarifed.

In short (I know, too late), I read it and could see how it could have been taken both ways.
