5 Reason not to get an iPhone
my first reason is I can't afford nor need it....LOL
Gina Hughes The Techie Diva The iPhone hype is so intense right now, I think people will be buying this phone based on hype alone. I mean, is the phone really that great? Our duty is to keep you informed regarding details we come across, so the more I read about the iPhone, the less I want it. At a glance, the device looks fantastic, features sound fun, and there's no doubt this phone is the "it" phone this year. But realistically, would you pay $500-$600 for any other phone? Like many of you, I'm still debating whether to buy an iPhone or not, so I've compiled a list of cons (since the pros are obvious) just to give myself a reality-check come Friday night. http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/hughes/14081 |
i still have yet to buy an ipod.

i have no desire to get this phone
i heard a review of it on NPR this morning, and he was saying that AT&T's service is absolutely horrible and really slow (like, he said that without a Wi-fi hotspot, you'll wish you had dial-up its that slow) whats the point of all the gadgetry if the main purposes (as a phone and internet) are basically inefficient...? (he also said that making a call on the phone takes about 6 "touches/keystrokes"... that to me is ridiculous) NPR interview |
i'll admit, the commercials make it look like something you would play with all day at work, instead of actually work. and the screen is big enough that i wouldnt have to squint to make things out.
that said, there is no way in hell id drop 5 or 6 hundred dollars on a PHONE. if someone wants to give me one out of the goodness of their hearts, ill definately take it. until then? and before they work the glitches out? (because you know there will be glitches...there will be an iphone350 or something by next year, just wait) |

Things i could get for 600 bux ( or less) a 200 dollar phone a new PC or laptop a blu ray player (which is also overpriced) a 30 something inch HDTV a trip to Canada (one way....lol) a new wardrobe..... a life...LOL |
The 1st gen is bound to be clunky.
I think it has a lot of potential. When my unit returns from Iraq I imagine that it will be lower in cost and the kinks will be worked out. Then I'll probably get one-or a phone that is very similar. |

Some of the technical and costs points really make you think. I'm not saying it's not a good phone, but still... you won't see me with one any time soon. But I do <3 apple.

that isnt going to stop me from playing with it as soon as i can find one ;) |

yeah, that is true. inconvenience of repair will greatly outweigh the inconvenience of having to ship it to god knows where and being without a phone for 4 weeks!

Are DVDs ALREADY on their way out? It seems like they JUST came in, and it's just recently they stopped releasing every movie that came out in both DVD and VCR form. Quote:
|
^^oh god what idiot thought that was a great idea? it was a good idea at best lol!
|
Between a trip to Canada and an iPhone, i'll emphatically take the latter.

DVD has barely been around 10 years and they are trying to kill the format...Blu Ray and HD DVD are supposed to give you better quality movies because of less compression..... It gets technical beyond this but let me explain.... in order to get a theatrical movie on a regular sized DVD, it has to be compressed or 'squeezed' onto a DVD disk meaning you may experience a loss of quality picture and sound hence why some dvds have 4 and 5 disks (like the lord of the rings extended edition where the main movie covers 2 disks alone) Now putting a movie on Blu Ray or High Density DVD (HD DVD) means you can get everything that takes 4 or 5 disks to store all onto one or 2 disks and with little loss of quality. here is the problem tho...Blu ray and HD DVD are duking it out betamax vs vhs stlye to see which will become the dominant form of next gen DVD watching...so dont rush out to get a player yet...not at least for another 3 years |

the average person would stay broke trying to keep up with technology in their home...and now they are putting half that mess (ipods, navigation) into the cars too!!

and then iPods came along and simplified it even more.....no more dragging a book filled with scratched and beatup disks. Now all we gotta worry about is copyright protection. |

I won't get them right away until 2-3 months after people try it. It's usually during the period where everyone complains that something doesn't work and have to return and fix (remember the motorola razrs, window vistas?) Usually after that all the upgrades and repairs are done and release more to the public.
Plus, I'm a not a big fan of touch screens, they go bad fast  |

Yeah......I just can't see myself using all of the features......ever. I have an 80gig video iPod that I only use in my car or on airplanes, never take it jogging or to the office, etc. As far as internet, email, etc......I can't imagine anything being better than the Blackberry.

It smokes the ipod in all areas except for one thing......size.... |

Naw......u know how they say....if you aren't included....sssshhhhh....hehehe Ok....bringing it back somewhat.....I went out and got a Zune to replace my iPod that was stolen earlier this year.....so far so good...it does just about everything my ipod did...but the one big up I like is the built in FM radio...but it still needs RSS and podcast support.... |
I don't plan on getting one of these for several reasons:
1) I'm too cheap 2) sometimes I like to "disconnect"- I don't want to be able to check my voicemail, e-mail, and play music all at the same time when I am at the park with my kids. side story- we took our boys camping a few weeks ago, and a guy at the campsite next to us was sitting at the picnic table with his laptop out. Not sure if he was somehow able to get internet, but still- 9am on a Saturday at a state park campground and he is typing on a computer! 3) I don't use half the features on the Treo phone that work makes me carry around, so I am pretty sure I wouldn't use most of the features on an iphone. |
