WWE Superstar & family found dead

Chris Benoit & family found dead in their home.

I am truly shocked. He was my favorite wrestler. :(

I truly hope this is not a pathetic ploy like the Vince McMahon storyline.

cuteASAbug 06-25-2007 07:20 PM

what was the outcome of the McMahon debacle? is he still "presumed" dead?

OH WOW!!! I have not watched wrestling in years, but I remember Benoit. How tragic.:(

So far, yes.

I originally thought this was a prank as well when I first saw it on TMZ so I started looking at the WWE site for news as well as other groups. I'm still stunned.

Me too. I googled it to see if any other news outlet reported it and I saw it on the Atlanta news station as well as Access Hollywood. The last time I watched RAW was when Eddie Guerrero died.:(

shinerbock 06-25-2007 08:17 PM

Originally heard it was gunshot, maybe non-violent seems to be the consensus now. Crime certainly isn't prevalent in that area.

BetteDavisEyes 06-25-2007 08:19 PM

Well, from what the story I've heard so far is that he left home yesterday b/c of a family emergency but what that emergency was hasn't been released.

I'm watching the 3 hour tribute to him on RAW and damn. It's so sad. I cried when they did the tribute to Eddie Guerrero and I'm crying now. I grew up watching WWE and still remember the day he debuted with Eddie, Perry Saturn, and Dean Malenko.

BetteDavisEyes 06-25-2007 09:36 PM

Fayette County Sheriff's Department is investigating the deaths as a homicide.

Wow. That just really blows my mind.

Wow. It's so hard to believe this. Now we wait and see if she was the one who killed him or he killed her. And I'm still in shock over one of them harming their own child like this.

BetteDavisEyes 06-25-2007 11:27 PM

It's only getting worse now.

Investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend and then killed himself today.

I sincerely hope this is not true. God, I hope it's not true. :(

CutiePie2000 06-26-2007 01:17 AM

I don't follow wrestling, but after reading the news stories, this is very sad and shocking.

Since he didn't appear at Vengeance on Sunday night, I suspected it was something along these lines but I held out hope that it was a home invasion gone bad or carbon monoxide poisoning.

It's still all very tragic.:(

AlphaFrog 06-26-2007 06:54 AM

It was heartbreaking to watch "big strong guys" like CM Punk and Chavo break down into tears talking about him.

Even Vince was getting broken up.

Lady Pi Phi 06-26-2007 07:16 AM

I haven't watched wrestling in years, but Mr. PiPhi and I think it was 'roid rage that caused this.

I couldn't even watch the whole show last night...tha's how sad it was....so vince did break storyline and make an appearance....that's good....and the irony of the whole thing is that last night was supposed to be Vince's FAKE memorial show and it turned out being a real one.....siiiiiigh

this is all so dayum tragic...I was holding out for carbon monoxide poisoning too.....

Yeah, he even announced that the storyline was SUPPOSED to be about his "character's" demise, but instead they were doing the tribute.

Thanks...it was too hard to watch that last night...and I am willing to bet that they had ti set in the story line for him to win the belt sunday night too...would have been cool .....

Yes it was heartbreaking. You can see that they are a brotherhood of men.

I agree. Maybe his wife announced that she was leaving him?

Very ironic indeed.

BetteDavisEyes 06-26-2007 09:36 AM

I started tearing up when Vince announced it in the large empty arena. Then I lost it watching announcers like JBL and Taz be unable to speak from the emotion. Then my tears really wouldn't let up when Edge just broke down sobbing on TV. Finally, the final montage of him and Eddie Guerrero at Wrestlemania 20 did me in. It was very difficult to watch especially the scenes of him with his wife and son.

I just can't believe he did this. In my mind, I'm having a hard time believing it but I know it is true now. :(

even more ironic is that they both won the heavyweight belt at 20

That's right. I forgot how Eddie had won his the same night as well.

I got to go to Wrestlemania 16 in Anaheim back in 2000 as well as Wrestlemania 21 at the Staples Center in 2005. I have pictures I took since Mike & I had floor seats close to the ring.

BetteDavisEyes 06-26-2007 11:57 AM

And in continuation, according to TMZ, he strangled his wife, smothered his son, and then hung himself in the weight room.

Developing story

GEEZUS!!!!!:eek::( My job blocks that site.

BetteDavisEyes 06-26-2007 12:04 PM

Several text messages sent by Benoit prompted friends to call the authorities to check up on him & family

Alas, the details of those messages aren't being released. So it sounds like if his wife was found in an office and the son in a bedroom, they didn't see it coming? I don't know. This is just bizarre and so tragic.

It appears that the text messages were being sent during the Vengeance show.

AlphaFrog 06-26-2007 12:55 PM

It says that they are investigating the possibility of steroids. I actually do think that probably had something to do with it, but it's still speculation.

so much for the carbon monoxide theory....sigh

BetteDavisEyes 06-26-2007 03:32 PM

The horrifying details

I'm sick to my stomach after reading this. I can't believe he was so fucked up in the head that he would do this.

If you can't get to the article, the police reported that his wife was bound by the feet and wrists and asphyxiated. There was blood found beneath her head. A Bible was also found near each of the bodies.
His son died in the same manner. :(

He then made a makeshift noose from one of the chords on his workout equipment and hung himself.

Police also confirmed that the did find steroids and prescription drugs in the house. The believe that he killed his wife & kids on Friday and he killed himself on Saturday.

I have to agree with you. I grew up watching wrestling and he was one of my favorites for years. Now, I can't even look at his pictures without being sick.

Yeah. I thought the same thing. There have been so many stories going around. I thought he was texting people on Sunday. I don't know if any phones have features that delay sending messages. It's so confusing and horrifying.

I've gotten a text 3 days after the person sent it.

CrimsonTide4 06-26-2007 03:46 PM

I've been reading in other articles that she filed for divorce and a restraining order in 2003, but dropped it 3 months later. Was that in the most recent link that BetteDavisEyes provided?

It wasn't but I can dig it up somewhere.
