Colony News

Icelandelf has agreed to keep us posted on the UT-SA colony this fall. Any Gamma Phis who are going to be working with the TCU colony? I'd love to hear what's happening with them . . .and looking ahead to the spring, any GA G Phi Bs working with KSU?

tinydancer 06-21-2007 11:57 PM

I'll be working with the TCU colony! We have a "house shower" planned for July 8, where we will be bringing general house supplies and stuff. This will be the first meeting of the advisory board and I am excited about this. I'll keep all informed as we move ahead.

SWTXBelle 06-22-2007 07:10 AM

Thanks, tinydancer! Is the TCU colony going to have a house right off the bat??

GeekyPenguin 06-22-2007 12:05 PM

Tell us more, tell us more - I love hearing about expansions!

tinydancer 06-22-2007 01:36 PM

TCU is in the process of refurbishing one of the units that was formerly used for general housing. All the sororities and fraternities are in one area, in dorm-type units. It will probably not be completed in time for rush in the fall, but should be done shortly after that. Our rush will be held the week after the other sororities. Evidently, there are lots of out of state girls who come in for the last freshman orientation, so they don't have to go back home. This conflicts with rush week, so many don't go Greek at all. We hope to attract them, as well as others who may be interested in getting a new group started.:)

SWTXBelle 06-24-2007 01:51 PM

That's great! It's so nice to know that we will be on equal footing in the housing department. It's always tough to start up when you are competing against orgs. with big, beautiful houses.
So our recruitment will be in late August or early September? Is the SMU chapter helping out?

tinydancer 06-24-2007 04:35 PM

I don't have the recruitment dates yet, but I seem to recall it's in late Aug. I'm sure the SMU chapter will be helping , as well as the Texas Wesleyan chapter.

summer_gphib 06-25-2007 01:09 AM

I can't wait to hear about all these expansions. Gamma Phi is on a roll! I can't believe we are doing so many all at once. Very exciting!

SWTXBelle 06-25-2007 05:49 AM

Target'

tinydancer - has the house corp. thought about registering at say, Target or the like, for things the house needs? I know a chapter that lost their house in a tornado did that and had a virtual house warming - alumnae could buy things on the registry for the house! Just a thought!

tinydancer 06-25-2007 12:13 PM

Yes! That's exactly what we did. We are registered at Target and are also encouraging gift cards from there for those who can't attend the actual "house shower."

icelandelf 06-25-2007 01:11 PM

I emailed Amy Apostol (RD3) for some info about UTSA (also because there are many San Antonio alums who are very excited about helping out). I got this response from Fran Lapham today--

Quote:

I know there are tons of enthusiastic alumnae in the state of Texas who are wanting more information about our upcoming extensions...I love the energy!!

As a result of our leadership conference, we decided we would do a newsletter type of thing regarding TCU & UTSA. We plan to put them out three times - once in the upcoming 1-2 weeks, once at the beginning of Sept/mid Sept and once post extension.

We are ahead of the game with regards to planning and now we're ready to start sharing some of the specifics and the needs from the local alumnae.

What a great time to be a Gamma Phi:)
I'm really excited about this!!! :):):)

gpb1874 06-25-2007 04:25 PM

i'll be helping with the UTSA recruitment and possibly other things as they come up. I'm an RC for the region and we are all so excited about the growth! Their recruitment will be October 8-12, with bid day on the 13th.

The newsletter that Fran and her crew is working on will have information on who to send information to for recs. Both chapters will need a lot of help getting names of potential women, so keep an eye out for them! Since it's a colonization, women from freshman to seniors are needed.

The Kennesaw colonization does not have a whole lot finalized since that is not until spring 2008.

I believe you may have been in the picture we saw at LDI of alumnae helping out with TCU. The collegiate extension folks went through the actual presentation with us and I saw your name listed as an alumna volunteer (with the picture).

TCU Target registry

How is the chapter listed on the registry? My mom (Gamma Phi in Houston) wanted to know how to give a housewarming gift!

kchaptergphib 06-30-2007 10:53 AM

http://www.target.com/gp/registry/re...DM3SMQ&jsebd=1

and if that link doesn't work, they're registered under Club Wedd, both the bride and groom are listed as "Gamma Phi Beta TCU"

happy shopping!

SWTXBelle 07-02-2007 09:44 PM

It worked great! I sent a little something - wish I could get them their television!

SmartBlondeGPhB 07-05-2007 03:24 PM

Oh and just a little trivia..........

We have finished the Zetas. Next colony will start the Etas.

Kennsaw

I was at Kennesaw a few nights ago for their Greek Block Party- the first event of the semester. There were probably 7 Gamma Phis there. Phi Mu and DPhiE were incredibly welcoming to us.

That's awesome. I'm not totally up to date - is the KSU colony participating in recruitment for the first semester with the other NPC chapters?

We will participate in the first round of formal recruitment this semester (the info session) and then drop out out it. (I believe) after this semester is done, then we will hold informal recruitment for all the girls that didn't join.

srmom 08-21-2007 04:56 PM

I wanted to let ya'll know that I heard from a couple of people that there are some cute girls at TCU who dropped out of rush before pref who are wanting to COB and they are very interested in the new Gamma Phi Beta group. It is a highly respected sorority in our area (lots of neat moms are alumni) and the girls are taking a strong look at joining:)

I hope it works out for all!!!!

Not sure I can actually release the numbers from TCU....don't want to overstep my bounds and steal the excitement of sharing from the sisters that are directly involved. I will say that it went EXTREMELY well and everyone is super excited about the results!!!!!!!!!! Hope that will satisfy your needs until tinydancer gets here.

UTSA

Sorry to crash but I just wanted to let you know that I saw some Gamma Phis at UTSA today! At first I thought, "oh neat, Gamma Phis" and then I realized thats not a site we see here usually! (Plus I don't get out of my office much so it was doubly special.) Congrats and welcome!

tinydancer 09-26-2007 08:41 PM

Sorry I have been out of the picture; had a broken computer and was sick for about a month.

GREAT NEWS from TCU!! On Bid Day we welcomed 105 new members!!!
Last figures I got, we had COBed to 114, with 2 more weeks of COB to go! I am thrilled beyond belief. We have some really cute and great girls. The interest in Gamma Phi is just incredible. And yes, some did drop out of rush to look closer at Gamma Phi.

House quota at TCU is 150 - can't believe that we are so close in our first year.

Cluey 09-27-2007 11:11 AM

Wow! That is amazing! Thanks for sharing the update with us! :)

It was well worth waiting for... ;)

SmartBlondeGPhB 09-27-2007 11:40 AM

SWTXBelle 09-28-2007 08:34 AM

That is incredible! We are on a roll in Texas - now, if we could only get back on at UT and Texas State . . . .:)

gpb1874 10-08-2007 11:11 AM

great news for TCU! I wasn't sure what the COB results were.

I'm headed to UTSA tonight! I am so excited and can't wait! I hear there is A LOT of interest on campus, thanks to our great CLCs. Wish us luck and hope that my voice doesn't go out!

SWTXBelle 10-08-2007 11:13 AM

Good luck, gpb1874 - try hot tea with lemon and honey!

icelandelf 10-08-2007 11:24 PM

I just got back this evening from the Information Session for our new colony at UTSA. There were over 150 wonderful young women who were interested in Gamma Phi Beta and the presentation was awesome! Think good thoughts for them this week as interviews and activities will occur starting tomorrow, with Pref Night this Friday and Bid Day this Saturday!

SWTXBelle 10-09-2007 07:36 AM
