Petition ABC Family to Cancel "Greek"

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/ABCgreek/

petition to get rid of that nonsense show.

macallan25 06-20-2007 04:46 PM

Haha, does it really upset you that much?

Well I just bumped into the petition and figured people would want to sign it. Honestly it kind of does offend me and somebody I was talking about it on Facebook brought up an interesting point.

Would society put up with an ABC Family show portraying people of a certain race, gender, or sexual orientation indulging in ridiculous stereotypes? I doubt it....because it's WRONG!

and what the hell is ABC "Family" doing advertising a show to kids about drunk frat boy date rapists and bulemic sororstitutes. HORRIBLE example to the kids out there....

The entire situation is a huge embarassment for everybody involved.

SigKapCoug 06-20-2007 04:56 PM

ABC family is NOT a family channel ("a new kind of family")

Its some sort of weird contract thing where they have to keep the family name even though they are not.

And lets be serious. ABC Family is NOT MTV. How many people actually WATCH ABC family? Who is actually going to be swayed by a dumb tv show?

Drolefille 06-20-2007 05:05 PM

Name me one internet petition that's done jack crap. The other recent petitions on that site are:
Jail Paris Hilton
Don't Free Paris Hilton
Stop WBC/Phelps from protesting at VT funerals
Free Paris Hilton
Draft Al Gore: Gore for President 2008

Yeah, they're gonna do some good.

It was these kind of petitions that caused CBS to bring Jericho back for season 2 when they cancelled it. If there was BIGTIME outpour it could have an effect.

p.s. I hope Al Gore runs for president on a third party green ticket....SPOILER!

James 06-20-2007 09:39 PM

Its just free publicity for them . .

eh who knows, then again when you think about it we don't bitch and whine about Animal House and Old School we have theme parties based on them (Toga Parties were supposedly extremely rare pre-Animal House and everyone at my school has at least one a year)

The problem with toga parties is that most people don't have the bodies for it :(

I read that the e-mail at both CBS and LA Times went down due to it as well. Read it in the LA Times.

That could be a rather good idea-get rid of the "extras" after Friday and Saturday parties:D

SoCalGirl 06-20-2007 10:21 PM

I wanna see the show first!

E-mails maybe. Online petitions, I seriously doubt it.

Why waste perfectly good cups? Just wash them and re-use them.

You're trying to cancel the show, not bring it back. So sending 20 tons of empty solo cups would probably backfire on you by creating awesome publicity for the show and ABC Family and getting even more people to watch it. Smart thinking!

What ever will liltrixx/ocalagirl do without be able to give digs to her Zeta Beta Zeta online sorority peeps? You might end her social life, man!

People may not be "swayed," but it contributes to the overall negative view of Greek life that seems to be being fostered in our society today. If a young person happens to view a show where GLOs are shown as dangerous, drug-infested, or just plain stupid, he or she may come to be assuaged that ALL GLOs behave in this manner. It negates the positives that GLOs have contributed to American society and beyond. I would like to say that people are not that stupid; unfortunately, however, many are.

Be honest here, would you tune in for an hour one night a week to a program that showed nothing but sororities cleaning up highways, volunteering at soup kitchens, and holding various fundraisers? Do you think anyone else would?

What exactly do bodies have to do with draped sheets? To be perfectly honest, I have not seen too many people--even those who are super buff--who look fabulous in a sheet. ;)

No one actually wears sheets to toga parties. At least not the girls. You go to a fabric store and buy some cute fabric.

I most likely wouldn't tune in anyway, but I don't particularly think it should be ALL about negativity, either. The best shows on television don't all have to be like Jerry Springer, do they? I'm just getting sick of people assuming that because I am in a sorority that I must be ALL about drinking or partying just because of what they have seen on tv. To be perfectly honest, I'm getting kind of sick of people getting all of their information about the world from trashy television, MySpace, and YouTube though, so I guess I'm jaded.

Because there is a HUGE difference between a large piece of fabric one puts on a bed and a gigantic piece of material one buys from a fabric store. Unless you are having your "toga" taylor-made, I doubt it makes that much of a difference.

Uh, this is a TV SHOW. Do you understand that ANY publicity is good publicity for them? The more people they get to watch it, the more advertising $ they can get.

If any of your friends are crafty, you ask them for help and it can look good. ;)

I'm not saying it can't be ok, but I would much prefer mixers with the ladies in sundresses or any other theme, and the guys in fitted shirts--that's just my preference. I preferred men draped in sheets after a few more dates. :) But, I'm afraid we are digressing from the topic at hand.

Because 1. I have read several of the previews for it, 2. I have seen several of the pictures from the show, and 3. I viewed the website on the show, and did not like what I saw--take, for example, even the picture on the first page. http://abcfamily.go.com/shows/greek/ Tasteless.

Ditto. If you actually think those petitions work, ha! Think again.

If you want to do something more effective, write to the companies who buy ad time during the episodes. Or don't watch at all. If people don't watch, they'll (hopefully) pull out, and no more TV show.

The networks don't care about some silly online petition.

True. Online petitions are silly, most of the time. Not watching it or writing to the company, or someone else in your local, state, or federal government would be much more effective.

KyleMcGuire1983 06-21-2007 12:21 AM

wow it's be negative and &*$% all over Kyle day huh?

well whatever, I just found it and posted it. the rest of you can whine and sit back and do absolutely nothing.

I'm not whining. I'm going to watch this show. Then I'll make up my mind.

Whoa dude, I'm not whining about anything, I think the show is ridiculous, too. I'm glad you thought to do something, even if it's an online petition.

AlexMack 06-21-2007 12:27 AM

While you have all this rage and fire going, maybe you could use it to go to something worthwhile, useful and long-lasting like petitioning the state of Indiana to introduce hate-crime laws.

There's a difference between attacking a post and attacking the poster.

For the record, I haven't seen many people whining about it, mainly because most of us have already been through Sorority/Fraternity Life on MTV and PLEDGED. Even though it might have put Greeks in a bad light, it wasn't the freaking end of the world and it eventually the discussion died down. The shows and the book? They're yesterday's news.

If people don't give it more publicity (hi, silly online petition)...I predict that this TV show will also follow suit.
