Zeta Trivia

Hi! I'm a recently-initiated member and was looking around for some Zeta trivia. Are there any neat facts about sisters or our symbols other than the basics taught to new members? The website gives some mention of sisters who have achieved great success but not too many.

I'm also new to Greek Chat, if that wasn't super obvious haha. It's nice to find a group of sisters online! :)

FSUZeta 06-14-2007 03:44 PM

welcome to zeta and greekchat. i will try to think of some trivia for you.

FSUZeta 06-15-2007 09:12 AM

I am going to say that it was at Alpha Chapter. I have heard the answer, and am going off the top of my head right now.

FSUZeta 06-17-2007 12:50 PM

anyone else?

PhenomenalZTA 06-17-2007 05:08 PM

A guess.

I have been through the history of zeta tau alpha 3 times now, and done a google search. I remember hearing this waaaaay back in the day. From the best of my knowledge I am going to guess...........

Gamma Chapter

Alpha just seems to obvious to me.

EtaPhiZTA 06-18-2007 09:38 AM

The first legacy was Bess Gardner who pledged the Kappa Chapter in 1924.

However, the first legacy to be initiated was Frances Grayson at the Delta Chapter who pledged in 1925, but was initiated one month prior to Bess.

I love The History of Zeta Tau Alpha! :)

Another question

The ZTA badge has remained unchanged in design for over 100 years; however, there were two small details (besides size) that were changed on our badge very early in our fraternity's history. What were these two details?

PhenomenalZTA 06-18-2007 10:15 PM

Ooh Ooh I know!

Yay, I am pretty sure I know this one!
1. The badge was completely flat as opposed to the raised center shield
on our beloved badge today.

2. The crown only had three points!!!

**fingers crossed**

I always thought those stickpin badges were soo soo cool!!

You are absolutely correct! :) I also loved the stickpin badges!

Do you have a fun trivia question to ask?

PhenomenalZTA 06-19-2007 12:06 AM

Had to hijack for a minute...I have a badge that is soldered to a locket and in looking at the tiny size of the badge at Convention, the national archivist informed me that it is over 100 years old! The badge size was standardized in 1906.

Also, if you see a badge with a wider bottom, that is called a "Fetting" badge because the manufacturer, Fetting, made them incorrectly. If you see a badge with 2 lines across the crown, that badge is generally from the 20's or 30's. My little sis is bidding on one right now on Ebay...

Probably more than you wanted to know! ;)

radioZTA 06-21-2007 01:21 PM

ZTABullwinkle 06-21-2007 04:10 PM

Found it! (page 72 of Vol. I, radioZTA)

"...The First National Convention was held at Farmville, VA, June 6 - 10, 1903, Alpha Chapter entertaining. The meetings were held in the Main Building og the State Normal School...."

ZTABullwinkle 06-21-2007 04:16 PM

Sorry it's been a few days guys, My husband and I just bought a house, so as you can guess, its been nuts here.

Trivia Time!!!!

"Alumnae chapters are said to be the surest proof that fraternity bonds retain their power even after school life is over."

These are words from the first Alumnae Chapter. What was its name? Where was it located? (Bonus points for the date it was established).

ChildoftheHorn 07-04-2007 12:49 PM

"The first alumnae organization was established in Newport News, Virginia, in 1905."

This is a direct quote, so I hope it is correct!

I should have known that. It is, after all, just up the road from where I live...

PhenomenalZTA 07-04-2007 02:08 PM

Correct!

Good job ChildoftheHorn! :D Hope you have a good question lined up next!! **places hands on imaginary buzzer**

The first Alumnae chapter was established April 15, 1905 in Newport News VA! It was called "Hampton Roads Alumnae." The first memebrship included three founders, Alice Bland Coleman, Mary Campbell Jones, and Helen Crafford.

lilzetakitten 07-06-2007 04:34 PM

Wish I'd been logged on earlier... I actually go to school in Newport News! :)

ZTABullwinkle 07-09-2007 04:58 PM

So who is up with the next trivia question? :D

PhenomenalZTA 07-09-2007 06:42 PM

Trivia

Psssst... ChildoftheHorn *poke poke* it's your turn!!!:D:D:D

ChildoftheHorn 07-09-2007 11:34 PM

Sorry guys about the delay....

If you were a member of ZTA in 1952, what was our philanthropic organization?

;P

PenguinTrax 07-10-2007 08:35 AM

Easter Seals?

EtaPhiZTA 07-10-2007 08:48 AM

ARC (Association of Retarded Citizens) ?

ZTABullwinkle 07-10-2007 04:41 PM

According to the IO website, I found this...
"in 1946, ZTA adopted the Cerebral Palsy Division of the National Society for Crippled Children and Adults. Later, ZTA adopted Easter Seals. In 1970, ZTA formed an alliance with the Association for Retarded Citizens (now known as The ARC) as its national philanthropy. "

This wasn't until 1970.

*Ding*

Seeing as this was a tough one...

National Society for Crippled Children and Adults

Seriously, the only way I found this one out is because I talked to someone who had joined in 1952 and how important it was to her back then (her brother had Palsy).

Your turn:p

utkzta 10-01-2007 03:18 PM

I pledged with ARC. Do they still do anything with them?

Cane94G8r97 10-01-2007 03:38 PM

When I pledged it was ARC and they switched to the current philanthropy while I was still in college. I haven't heard of any continuing affiliation with ARC. Its a good question.

PhenomenalZTA 12-18-2007 06:18 PM

Trivia!

Yay!

Anyone want to play again?!

What chapter designed the Official Flag? (Bonus points for the year it was introduced)

radioZTA 12-19-2007 12:30 AM

1950 - Gamma Epsilon

Next question - when was Alpha re-estabilished?

lilzetakitten 12-19-2007 02:18 AM

Was it 1949?

radioZTA 12-19-2007 11:49 AM

Yes!

Longwood opened for NPC colonization on Jan. 1st of 1949 and the local group, Mu Omega, became the re-born Alpha chapter on Jan. 20, 1949. All collegians and local alumnae of Mu Omega, including Maud Jones' sister-in-law, chose to be initiated into ZTA. Alpha was dormant for 43 years!

SthrnZeta 12-19-2007 12:57 PM

So glad our gold Alpha link is active again! :-)
