How fondly I remember the year Charley ruined recruitment! It is SO NOT FUN to have to re-plan the party you spent all summer carefully planning because of a hurricane! (Still a little bitter about this one!) ;)

I love UCF threads. If I kept I journal I would have done a retro rush thread.

I couldn't get a hang of their door chant so I was thinking that this could be a bad sign. I was exhausted, sweaty, and I was losing my voice! This chapter was not housed, but they really did a good job of making it feel as though it was! When my rusher asked me what my major was (mechanical engineering) instead of freaking out like the others did, she got really excited and said "Really?? What do you want to do?" and when I told her about my passion for roller coasters, that's when we really started talking. I was amazed that I was having a real, actual conversation instead of random chit chat. It was such a releif! I was so sad to leave Orange once time was up because I felt like I had really found a place I liked.

slight hijack-
I think you might be my twin...lol I went into mechanical engineering wanting to design roller coasters. I exhaustedly contacted many of the design companies at the end of college basically volunteering to intern for free. I am so far from designing roller coasters now. I had a roommie a couple of years ago who was a lanscape architect. We used to have pipe dreams about designing waterparks together. -end slight hijack

I didn't have the same issues with recruitment and being an engineering major as you. I didn't declare my major till my soph. year. I joined my first semester at non-competitive school. I hope current collegiates will read your story and give PNMs in engineering a fair shot. Just because they are technically minded does not mean they do not enjoy the same outside of class activities. ;)

Looking forward to more. I think I am becoming a recruitment story addict now.

I was one of those "35 leaders" also when I was on campus! Congrats

i find it interesting that despite having an awkward rusher at orange, you were able to overlook this and ranked them first. was it that you were just so sold on orange from what you knew about the sorority and their campus rep. or something else?

Ocalagirl 06-15-2007 09:30 AM

This is very interesting to me since I was there last year with you. I think I most of the chapters if memory serves. Congrats on getting a bid!! that was something I couldn't do.

So true! The chapters put the fear of God into you to avoid infractions! This included communication with disaffiliated sisters serving on Panhellenic! In 99, I was a PX and I remember the day before Greek Forum I was in the Union with a bunch of PXs and one of my chapter sisters who was also a close friend walked by me and literally looked right through me!

I never thought much of this. We always referred to the groups as chapters. It wasn't until I worked with ADPi chapters in other places like California and Washington State that I began to hear the term "house" a lot more, and it bothered me-- a chapter makes me think of something belonging to a greater whole. A house is ... a house.

InseparableDI 06-15-2007 01:21 PM

i love reading these since my experience was so different, and one of my best friends is thinking of rushing at unh because of how much i love my sorority

If this wasn't a retro thread, my post would look like this:

{{{{{Faith4Keep}}}}}}}

I know it's tough being dropped by a favorite and I know it's hard not being invited back to the max number of chapters. But, I'm sure there are other women who were invited back to less parties than you. Keep your chin up and go in there with the great attitude I know you have! You'll find your home! Stick it out.

And, as all GCers faithfully say: IT ONLY TAKES ONE!

But, this is a retro thread, so I'm just going to ask you to post an update soon! :p :p

I didn't even really love some of the chapters that dropped me... it just hurt being told "No, we don't like you".

I was so sure I was going to Blue for prefs.... maybe I should just stop recruitment now so I won't be disappointed.

But you still have your top 2 favorites! That's good news. :)

(I know what you mean though - it stings to be dropped, even if you didn't particularly love the chapter. You want to be the one doing the dropping, darn it. :()

I'm reading :)

Retro-recruitment threads are kind of like watching a re-rerun episode of your favorite TV show that you missed during the season. You know at the season's end that everything turned out ok for the characters on the show, but that un-seen re-run still carries an element of suspense! LOL

From one UCF Knight to another, I'm enjoying reading about recruitment nearly a decade after my experience! ;)

Soliloquy 06-18-2007 12:54 PM

Faith, I am definitely reading and anxiously awaiting the final results.

You are tourturing me with suspense! Torture I say, torture!!! :p

Actually, as another Knight, I'm dying to find out which group is which. I've got my guesses.

I'm just really hoping you plan to reveal all the groups!

More! More! More! I have to work until 5p! :p Great story though! It was tough going through recruitment and wondering what you did wrong or why a group didn't like you.

But, in the end, we all end up exactly where we belong. That's what I believe anyway.

FSUZeta 06-18-2007 03:25 PM

i've also been reading your thread, but did not feel the need to comment after each of your posts. i would love another update!

UCFStefanie 06-18-2007 06:25 PM

I am reading also and can I tell you how similar your experience is to mine. WOW, just wow!
