Fun! Are you going to reveal which chapters are at your school?

dukemama 06-11-2007 04:54 PM

Oooh, I'll be very interested to hear your story since my school has only one of the 7 chapters at yours (Chi Omega).

Are you going to tell us when (what year) you went through recruitment?

howtheSunrose 06-11-2007 05:32 PM

I'm going to have to root for M&Ms as they are delicious!

sailboatgirl 06-11-2007 05:34 PM

Yeah...another rush thread with a Sigma chapter!

I had decided that when I read your code names that I was going to root for M&M's since that's one of nicknames my parents called me, but they're the skinny blond house, and I have curly black hair! Hmmm...I think I still root for them but also Kit Kat since I just ate one out of the vending machine!

PeppyGPhiB 06-11-2007 05:50 PM

Am I the only one that thinks it's a little weird/creepy for rush conversations to be stationed in bedrooms? I've read that in a lot of threads, and I think I would've felt weird being led into a bedroom with a rusher, where we sit on the bed and make small talk for a few minutes.

It definitely sounds a little ooky to me...but then again, at Duke sororities don't have houses (they don't even live together in dorm sections like most of the fraternities) so I have no frame of reference!

It's pretty commonplace where I go to school. During pref, sometimes girls would take PNMs to the bedrooms because there isn't alot of room in the common areas of the house for every sister to pref their PNM. It's hard to tell a girl how much you want her to join XYZ over the voices of 50 other people in the parlor.

It wasn't creepy to us I guess because all of the other houses did the same. The doors of the rooms were left open also (closing them is a rush infraction & would actually be a little creepy).

I've thought it was interesting, but I could see doing it if there was a lack of space. We had enough common areas - large dining room, formal living room, TV room, study room, library (really a sitting room). The only time where you'd be having a conversation with a PNM in a bedroom would be on house tours if you were pausing to chat about something, let another group pass ahead, or point something out in the room.

AlphaFrog 06-11-2007 08:58 PM

This is funny...because those are all the chapters my undergrad had, but I can tell from the way rush is going, that it's not my undergrad. We didn't visit houses first round, and rush wasn't at the begining of school. Unless she rushed way before I did, and things have changed alot.....

Sister Havana 06-12-2007 12:56 AM

When I rushed at IU, we went into bedrooms to talk at some of the houses. I didn't think of it as dirty rushing, just a matter of finding space. We had about 1800 girls go through rush every year, and at the time there were 22 houses, so we had around 81 girls in each rush group for the first round. Add to that the 100+ actives at most of the houses, and that's a lot of people in the house at once!

Nah, I usually felt pretty comfortable in a another woman's dorm room when I was in college, no matter what the circumstances.

But maybe I'm looking back with a new perspective, because I did on-campus interviewing that would sometimes place me alone in a HOTEL room with one or two middle-aged guys. THAT was creepy. Having experienced that, chatting in some girl's dorm room seems like a piece of cake.

With that exact list of groups -- only one campus could it be.

In recent history, but not currently.

Yes and did hot-boxing cross anyone's mind? Creepy and uncomfortable - two or three sisters on one rushee!

That's the part I would feel uncomfy with. As for the bedroom issue, in some houses it is honestly a matter of not having enough space in common areas. I mean a bedroom's probably a better option than the kitchen.

Good Luck Felicity!!!!!

I'm rooting for Milky Way.

Ocalagirl 06-13-2007 12:42 PM

Another addicting thread...I would love some more (soon if possible:)

violetpretty 06-13-2007 01:24 PM

Well it doesn't really matter since you planned on cutting M&M anyway. They probably just didn't think you were a good fit, despite having a good conversation. I have had great conversations with PNMs during recruitment, but just because she can talk to you doesn't mean she will fit it your chapter, even though you might like her.

Yeah...but it's like the Nada Surf song - There's still a feeling of rejection when she says that she prefers the company of others.
