The Biggest Loser 4 ~ Premieres 9.11.07

Shaq works with obese kids a la Biggest Loser:cool:

http://abc.go.com/specials/shaqsbigchallenge.html

CrimsonTide4 06-24-2007 09:14 AM

I can't wait to watch.

delph998 06-24-2007 09:17 AM

Yes. This should be really good.

DSTCHAOS 06-24-2007 10:48 AM

I'm so excited about this show. It's a great idea. We talk about the obesity of adults, which is important. But we have to get people before they are stuck in their unhealthy lifestyles.

I laughed at the commercial where the boy farted on Shaq when he did a sit-up.

I'm excited about the show as well. I like that Shaq is doing this and it will be incorporated into Florida schools according to something I read about the show.

Last week, I watched Honey We're Killing Our Kids on TLC. Has anyone ever watched? Great show. It's on a smaller scale of Shaq's show -- it takes one family and teaches them healthy eating and alternatives to have an active lifestyle.

I've seen that. I'm passionate about health stuff and it pisses me off to see children who are unhealthy. It pisses me off to see adults that way, too, but children have little autonomy and do what they are taught/told to do.

It was alarming to see what the kids could potentially look like if they continued on their path. The family I saw had like 3 refrigerators.:eek:

Missam05 06-24-2007 04:20 PM

I too hate to see obese kids.

I read an article recently that talked about how schools have vending machines galore and unhealthy choices for lunch. While I disagree on the vending machines (At least around this area..), we don't help out by having fundraisers bringing the stuff back in. Even our grade level, plans on having a "candy house" to raise money for kids' field trips and other things we need. We COULD put fruit and granola bars, etc. but would the kids BUY them?

delph998 06-24-2007 10:35 PM

Three refrigerators? Are you serious?

My hat is off too! This is going to be a great program.

Walter? Has bigger boobs than mine.:o:(

Dionysus 06-26-2007 09:25 PM

Females are supposed to do at least 10 push ups? Did I hear that right?

I can only do 1, and I'm nowhere near overweight.

kiml122 06-26-2007 09:27 PM

When i first looked at it, I thought Walter was a girl.

Between 10 and 20. I have not done push ups since I was in elementary school.

kiml122 06-26-2007 09:32 PM

Ok Walter weighs 285 pounds....and the kid Kevin I think his name is weighs 230...WOW...yeah I know their BMI's must be off the charts. My mouth is hanging open that these are kids and they are on the treadmill for what less than 5 mintues and they passed out...

CrimsonTide4 06-26-2007 09:34 PM

Walter has a GAme Boy, XBox, PlayStation, Nintendo and plays video games 5 hours a day. I can tell he is socially maladjusted in a major way.

DSTRen13 06-26-2007 09:36 PM

Walter needs a Wii :)

Missam05 06-26-2007 09:45 PM

I didn't get to watch it. (BET Awards is on..) I'll need a recap please!

He really needs to get out and play. his parents need to sign him up at the y or something, but he needs to get from in front of that tv set. When I was his age after leaving the library in the summer, I was at the play ground playing basketball being in the air out in the open at the playground. Wow have times changed.

That one girl with the dark hair? Her mother is afraid to let her outside.

But yes we had to play outside. I used to want to read but I rode my bike and play hella football and hide n go seek.

Missam, I don't do recaps. Maybe ABC.com will play it on the net.

kiml122 06-26-2007 09:53 PM

I hope a lot of people are watching this that have hefty kids and see that they really need to do better, and stop just letting the kids eat any anything any time of day whenever they want. If the parents don't buy it, then it won't be in the house. Have some healthy snacks and let them go some where and get some exercise...again sign them up at the Y.

Not lying and he was leaned up against the bar too.

It will be broadcast on ABC.com starting tomorrow per the website. Get ready to see some shocking stuff.

DSTCHAOS 06-26-2007 10:40 PM

I can do up to 100-300 push ups. Not the "female push ups" but the regular kind.

DSTCHAOS 06-26-2007 10:43 PM

These parents are guilty of child abuse and need to get slapped.

Even if parents have to work or can't allow their children to play outside after school, that doesn't mean the child has to be allowed to eat all the darn time.

Take away the video games and the fattening foods around the house. That child will find something more constructive to do with his time and his appetite if you provide alternatives. A well disciplined child doesn't need a parent directing her every minute of the day to know what is and is not appropriate.

DSTKellie 06-26-2007 10:52 PM

Dang it I missed it. I thought it was 9:00pm central...duh me. When is the repeat? Let me hop over to www.abc.com

They do need to take ownership for allowing this to happen to their kids.

Get those kids moving!

I absolutely agree. Nothing makes me smile more than seeing parents at the gym with their children. The kids are engaged and seem to enjoy themselves. My gym also has the kiddie version of excercise classes: kids yoga, kids pilates, kids dance aerobics, etc.

Parents need to also be aware that just because the child is not considered fat or obese does not mean that they can be less vigilant when it comes to the child's overall health.

DSTKellie 06-28-2007 02:37 PM

I finally watched the show on ABC and I actually liked it! However, hearing Shaq talk somehow makes me want to hurl. He sounds slightly retarded or something.

DSTKellie 06-28-2007 02:46 PM

I was also surprise that there weren't any African-American females on the show.

The moment in the show that really pissed me off was when Walter's dad tried to act like Walter was the only one responsible for his condition. There were stacks of pizza boxes on the counter behind them! Did this kid have the money to order pizzas and pizza burritos (WTF)? His parents let him sit five hours at stretch and play video games. The parents allowed this kid to become a health disaster! His obesity is the result of longstanding habits and enabling by the parents!

nikki1920 06-28-2007 04:41 PM

I am glad Shaq did this show.

Parents take your kids outside.
