You'd never know it by looking at me....
Hi All! I'm sitting here listening to some tunes remembering a comment a friend of mine made. He said "you know, you don't look like someone who would like Limp Bizkit." (don't ask me what that means, I let it fly over my head) Which groups do you like that others would not expect you to like just by "looking" at you?

Tracy Chapman - her original CD is my all time fav. When my girlfriend heard me singing to it one morning she was like "you like that?" Its been said by others too. I don't know how you can "look" like you would or wouldn't like a certain group or type of music. I like pretty much anything from pop, country, r&b, some rap, and anything from the 80's!
------------------ "Alpha Chi Omega - If you only had 2 wishes, what would your second one be?" |
i LOVE CLASSICAL MUSIC "FUR ELISE" IS MY FAVORITE
|
Not me, but Mr. 33 - who is a total rock & roll guy. One day we were driving domeplace & he started singing the score to Jesus Christ Superstar! I about fainted - I would have never dreamed he was into any sort of show where people randomly burst into song. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
|
I have a special place in my heart for the heavy metal from the eighties. Metallica's black album is one of my all time favorites. I also have some sort of crush on Rage Against the Machine's Zach DeLa Rocha
(Must be the dreads) |
U2, Sugar Ray, and No doubt! I still have a soft spot for 80's glam rock, Poison,etc.. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
X girl What's that old saying? Never judge a book... |
I'm so much into rap and R&B, that you would never know that I like to listen to No Doubt and back in the Day Gunz-n-Roses.
|
I think I stopped surprising people a while ago with musical selection, but I've surprised my fiance a few times, like mr. 33, I love Jesus Christ Superstar--go figure--the fact I was in a production of it probably helps, I also have a soft spot for Metallica's 'black' album (awww. . .those 8th grade years!), I passionatly sing to the Dixie Chicks in my car--the only tape i even HAVE in my car--all my radio dials are set to country music stations, I know all the words to Sugar Ray's "every morning when I wake up" song--even though I don't know if that's the title, I'm a sucker for "Beach Baby" by First Class--if you can't place the song or group--it's an oldie! And of course, who could forget--I know ALL the words to ALL the songs of Grease, I also can't forget, I know all the words to all the songs in "Rocky Horor Picture Show", last but not least--I love classical too, I'm a sucker for Chopin, Bach, and Pachabell. So, I guess I've got a pretty good repitoir (sp?)going on. So with that said, I've surprised quite a few people.

You would never guess that I know all the words to "Once Bitten Twice Shy" (yes, 80's rock)or that I love Led Zepplin.
|
Anything by DeBarge!
|
Most people think I'm in my early twenties but I am actually stalking 30 so people are often surprised that I eat, sleep, drink and know all the words to songs by: The Dellphonics (sp), The Stylistics, Earth Wind & Fire, Maze & Frankie Beverly, The Temptations, The Main Ingredient, Fifth Dimension, Phyliss Hyman (sp?), The Supremes, Barbara Streisand, Teena Marie, Ohio Players, WAR, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye --I luvs the Oldies

What a good topic! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Ok, well I think more people are starting to learn that I like this stuff, but I love the boy bands! I really like N'Sync. I can't help it! I just love them. I feel like a dork sometimes but I can't stop singing their songs! I mainly listen to R&B and hip-hop, and some rap. But I'm really starting to listen to stuff like Christina, N'Sync, 98 degrees..all the little teeny bopper stuff. I also like some of the other bands like Creed, Vertical Horizon, Smash Mouth, No Doubt, Sugar Ray, Dave Matthews, and a few more. Everyone is so surprised when they find out I love these bands. Man, if they only knew I used to love Nirvana back in the day too! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Back in the day...
80's Duran Duran, Wham! (their posters were ALL over my room!) U2, Bon Jovi (Slippery When Wet), WhiteSnake (Is This Love?) Now, NO Doubt (Simple Kind of Life) Jazz [This message has been edited by AKA2D '91 (edited November 20, 2000).] |
AKA2D '91,
No you didn't! I used to love me some Duran Duran too. Remember "Shout, shout, let it all out!?" I could go on and on with the 80s groups like Oingo Boingo, The Go Gos, Pat Benatar, etc. And from the early 90s I liked one song in particular from Guns N Roses "November Rain." The video was so good. But even in the Y2K I still like the Material Girl-Madonna. I am really diggin' her new song "Music." I might have to buy the whole CD. |

Limp Bizkit!
I love Fred Durst, but if you just looked at me you wouldn't think so. But I do! I've been to 2 of their concerts and I'm probably going to go to the one comming to Ga soon, tickets havent went on sale yet. I also went out and bought their new cd, the first day it came out. I didn't even know what all was on it I knew I'd like it though! ------------------ "Only The Best Get Crowned" |

Dave Matthews is the man! I love Dave Matthews. Can't wait till the new album comes out. But back to the question at hand, you'd never know it by looking at me that I was a big fan of New Kids on the Block and that I loved Jack Wagner.(when he on General Hospital and pretending he was the next Rick Springfield) I had all of his albums |
Well... I'm a total dave matthews groupie. And in my car at all times are at least one DMB cd, one Foo Fighters and one matchbox 20--- so when I break out the Backstreet Boys -- I know! I know! I'm embarrassed but I love them -- well recently my assistant took the cd away from me and handed me my limp bizkit cause she just could not handle the idea of me and the backstreet--or maybe it was me singing larger than life all throughout the office...hmmmm. LOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
|
Hip Hop! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Love dancing to it...generally a surprise to those who don't know me too well, but a given to those who do. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I like pretty much everything except country, and I think that's what surprises people. For example, on the same tape I have Eminem, songs from the musical "Tommy," No Doubt, N'Sync, Green Day, Britney Spears, Billy Joel, Depeche Mode, U2, The Police...just about everything! I think the thing that shocks the most people though is that I have the biggest crush on Eminem...even though he's SOOOOO not my type. I guess I kinda like the whole bad boy side of him. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

That I have been downloading the heck out of Journey. Since I saw them on VH-1's "Behind the Music" I have gotten into them once again! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif
|
You would never know this from the music I usully like, but I really like doo-wop singing from like the 50's and 60's like rama lama ding dong. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
|
I'm very into reggae and roots ska, which surprises a lot of people (especially b/c i'm from iowa - it's this whole 'farmer-got-soul' thing i don't really understand - hey i'm from the city, smart guy) - i love it though, toots and the maytals, peter tosh, desmond dekker, the slackers, yellowman, buju banton, rocker t, the heptones, all that good stuff. amazing.
also, unrelated but similar, some girl told me last week that i "don't look like an engineer" - what the hell does that mean?!? she said i looked like i should be in the college of communications. i just laughed |
OK, I know that I am a severe Hip Hop Head!!! true hip hop like Jay-Z, Gangstarr, Talib Kweli/Mos Def, Slum Village, Common, etc. Anyone with more than 1 platinum tooth or three chains is usually a passing fad, http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif so I typically don't get too much into "one-hit wonder" groups that spend most of their career calling everybody a bi^%h and a H@ while drinking something out of the bottle! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif Give me a message, people! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif
Anyhoo, with that said, people would probably be shocked to know that I loooove No Doubt (listen to them almost every day! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif ) Steely Dan - the original stuff from the 70's, Fleetwood Mac, and <<soror6 doing a drumroll....>> Classical music by Tchaikovsky! Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... Don't tell anybody! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif |
People are sometimes surprised to find out that I love The Cure and have since '89. They are even more surprised to learn that I like rap: Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, etc. I don't like anything hardcore, so I prefer the songs you hear on the radio as opposed to the ones that are on the actual c.d. I also like reggae and ska. OOH...I just LOVE Sublime!!!
|
I'm not sure if I've really "suprised" anyone with my musical taste. I'm really eclectic in what like. I tend to lean away from country and rap. It really depends on where I am though or the situation. In my car to work I usually listed to (D.C. stations) Z104, DC101, and Mix 107.3. Lately the songs I enjoy most have been with Match Box 20(come home?), Vertical Horizon(one of them is "best I ever had"). Theres this song on Mix 107.3 "I'll stop the world and melt with you". Then I like Creed, Dave Mathews, Celine Dion, Back Street Boys. I also like Erasure...Thats an old favorite of mine. The others are posted on another thread.

i live in south florida which is ghetto'ed out and every teen listens too rap or R&B. My love for country and 70's kills my friends. They cringe whenever i play it in my car! Ha ha. oh well
|
No Doubt, Limp Bizkit, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, you name it. If it sounds good to my ears, from gospel to rap to rock, my ears are wide open! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Most people would never believe that i like country music. Not all country music but i like a lot of it. Garth Brooks used to be my favorite. I am from Tennessee so when people find out I like country they say it b/c of where I'm from. I especially loved Thunder Rolls, it was and is still one of my favorites.

People are medically shocked that I am a die hard Toriphile! I AM ADDICTED TO TORI AMOS! Anyone else LOVE TORI!??!? I've seen her live 5 times!! God, she touches my soul and can make me weep no matter what mood I'm in: contemplative, sad, happy. She has such a way with a pen and words. Put them together and she can make me her devoted slave!
I love Pavement, Psychedelic Furs, The Church, Duran Duran, The Cure, They Might Be Giants, all those AWESOME 80's new wave bands that NO ONE PLAYS ANYMORE! I also love old 80's heavy metal: Poison, Warrant, Metallica, Whitesnake, etc. I hate most of the music played on mainstream radio today, but there are a few bands and artists from today that I do like: Alanis, Duncan Sheik, Radiohead, Coldplay, Deftones, Paula Cole, and Elliott Smith. If I DO listen to hip hop-like music, it's Beastie Boys or Cibo Matto. Oh and Sarah MacLachlan! Love her! I also love techno and trip hop: Tricky, Portishead, Esthero, Massive Attack, Bjork. I love ambient music too. I am starting to get into country too. LeeAnn Womack's new album is wonderful! I love classical. My fave opera piece is the soprano duet from "Lakme". I love old blues, too: Etta James, Nina Simone, "Ma Vie En Rose"...I also love old AM radio classics: Moody Blues' "Nights in White Satin", James Taylor, Billy Joel, Bread, Jim Croce. Oh and who can forget PICK FLOYD and LED ZEPPELIN and RUSH and JOURNEY!! I am also a disco freak: "Ring My Bell", "Dancing Queen", Three Dog Night, Bay City Rollers!! Lately I am also really into classic R&B: Bill Withers, Peaches and Herb, "Always and Forever"!!! If it isn't obvious by now, I am a serious music addict. I wish I had stuck with piano so I could make it myself! But I am a pretty good singer, if I do say so myself!! I bless the internet gods for allowing a way for me to listen to my fave station in the world: 99.9 WBTZ The Buzz out of Burlington, VT. |
Anything alternative..
Goo Goo Dolls Duncan Sheik Matchbox 20 I will seriously *JAM* "Barely Breathing" or "Iris" and my friends are like WHAAAA?? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Another song I like is from White Zombie. Its a 70s remix. I cant remember the song though. Of course I'm not gay, but I do like the timeless dance songs of the Village People. Men at Work from the 80s is another favorite of mine.

My dad was surprised to hear Teddy Pendergrass and Otis Redding bumping from my stereo the last time I was home. He thought it was all 'Hova.

I'm a straight out hippie, dreads and all, but once in a great while, I find myself listening to old school gangster rap, like scarface, crucial conflict, warren g, do or die, etc... I also studied abroad in Jamaica, so I listen to a lot of new age reggae which is raggamuffin -- a mix of rap and reggae.
So, I suppose I'm a really hard person to categorize... I mean, I'm a hippie, a feminist, a sorority girl, and I even got a little ghetto in me. Trust me though, I'm a handful... ask my roomies! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |

I love classic rock: the doors, ccr, the beatles, the guess who, the beach boys, zepplin, pink floyd. I also love disco, the big canadian rock bands: the hip, big sugar, big wreck. I also love ACDC, aerosmith, u2, and Robbie Williams. Quite a mix I know http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/tongue.gif

I listen to Aerosmith, Def Lepard, Offspring, GreenDay--their older stuff-- bands like that. Also, I like Bone Thugs and Harmony and for some reason my friends tell me I don't seem like a person who would listen to a group where every sone is about smoking weed. But I dig them, what can I say?
