Philos
Hello!
I am trying to find out some information on the Sigma Philo organization. I have done some research, but am coming up with very little. Can someone please give light on this organization, or point me in the direction of someone or something that does. I would be very appreciative! |
I would start with our international website, www.sgrho1922.org
|
Here are some links that may be helpful -

Every grad chapter sponsors their own philo club so you need to first get in touch with a grad chapter; the one nearest you. Where are you located?

Philos
I live in atlanta, and currently I am spearheading a recruitement for Philos. I just was trying to get some more info to tell the ladies that I was trying to recruite, but so far with my lack of info we have about 15 ladies interested, including me. I am excited! Do you have any info that I can give them or should I just wait for our meeting? It is on Sat Morning, with the VP of the sponsoring chapter.
Thanks! MsCoco81 |
Just wait for your meeting. Since you are already established with a grad chapter contact, she can give you all the information you need. There is not much more that we could tell you other than what's on the website. Like, rhoyal tempest said, every grad chapter sponsors their own philo club.

Philos
Thanks ladies, for your insight and info!
|
yes and keep us updated on how you ladies are progressing. And definitely let us know when you become a Philo.
|
Philos
I will, and thanks for the love already! According to our VP everything should commence in July, I am Very excited!
|
I found some more information about the Philos that all will be interested in. The Central region has a Philo Club website with even more information. Check it out at http://www.philocentral.org/index.html.

Philos
Thanks Rhoyal,
I am beginning to see how the Philo organization works. I am elated that Sigma Gamma Rho has an affiliate organization that allows me to participate in Community Service and have that bond of Sisterhood, with out a 4 year degree. I am a cosmetologist, and am very happy with my education, but that doesn't mean that I am not looking for other areas of fulfillment in my life, SGRho and the Philo club are going to allow me that opportunity. Thanks MsCoco81 |
Great!
I am happy to see that you have found our Philo organization. It is indeed an excellent opportunity for women, as yourself, to have this degree of fulfillment. Please continue to post here and welcome to GreekChat!
We just may have to start us a Philo "introduce yourself" thread cause I know that they are silently lurking here. ;) |

I am very sure of that, if for no other reason, that I have recruited 17 women to join this organization with me. So if there are 18 (including me) in Atlanta, I know there are more in the US. I just cant believe that there has not been a Chapter in Atlanta, before this. There are several community colleges, and or women who want to make a difference in their communities. Sure one person can do something alone, but when there are more people trying, the diffrence is made on a larger scale. So again, Im just glad that I was approched by a SGRho, and asked was I interested in participating in something of this magnitude.

The Philos also attend our regional conferences and national conventions. They have meetings and sessions of their own. They elect their own national officers and also have a pageant. You are joining something really big and I do wish you well. :) |
Y'all better go! 18 Philos being initiated at the same time...that's amazing! I suppose that there would be even more chapters and bigger ones if more people knew about it. I'm sure there are many non-degree and associate degree women who want to be a part of an organized sisterhood such as the Philo Club.
Be sure to talk to your SGRho grad chapter (by the way which chapter is this?) about writing an article and sending it along with pictures from your induction day to the Aurora. In case you didn't know, the Aurora is our international sorority magazine. You can download the latest copy from our international website at http://www.sgrho1922.org/aurora.htm. |
Yeah, that is a lot of Philos. That would be nice to read about in the Aurora! :)

The name of the chapter is the Zeta Alpha Sigma Chapter in College Park, it is under Georgia State University. I am very excited, but I know that some ladies may not follow through with the whole process, but I have 18(including myself) interested ladies, and so far, I know that 12-15 are SERIOUS, because they have all wanted to be apart of an sorority at some point and time, but do not posess a 4 yr degree, so I came along and offer them the opportunity to join an org that functions like one, & the jump at the opportunity. So I think that it will be great!

Every alumni chapter is responsible for and advises specific undergrad chapters at colleges and universities in their area. So Zeta Alpha Sigma advises the undergrad chapter at Georgia State University (among others) and the name of that chapter is Omicron Gamma. Now since the alumni and the undergrad chapters they advise work closely together, you will probably meet ladies from the Omicron Gamma chapter at Georgia State and it's very likely that there are Omicron Gamma graduates now in the College Park alumni chapter although not exclusively. So I just wanted you to understand that the chapter that will be sponsoring you is the Zeta Alpha Sigma alumni chapter of College Park, not under Georgia State University.:) |
Philos
OOOOOOHHHHH! I see it! Ok, Thanks. Ok, it the Zeta Alpha Sigma Chapter of College Park.:D
I appreciate that, I want to learn all that I can about SGRho's and the Philo affiliates. |
Zeta Alpha Sigma is a lovely chapter, I worked very closely with those ladies as a member of Eta Sigma (Atlanta Alumnae) chapter.

I was cute though...;) |
Alright sorors...let's turn this thread back over to the topic of the Philo Club before BlueReign comes in here and closes it.:)
|
^^^ I think I may be evil for wanting to continue the convo.
The stroll competition is scheduled to start at 3:30. The GAPHC stepped up their game this year because there will be a stage! @ Jubi - Hush yo' mouth. This will probably be my last time doing it. But maybe I'll be the lucky charm considering that when I strolled 5 years ago, we (3 other sorors and moi) won that competition hands down. Good Luck to the aspiring Philos. (I tried to stay somewhat on topic.) |
Philos
Well, Thanks to all the ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho Inc. for all of the information regarding your Philo organization. I will make sure that I keep you posted on my induction!

I haven't been on here for awhile but since I rep the lovely Zeta Alpha Sigma chapter, I wanted to say hello to Ms. CoCo. The sorors are very excited about the Philos and the tremendous work that CoCo has done to get the ball rolling.

You all should be proud of her. She was very humble in trying to find out more about the Philo Club and I can tell that she will be a great asset to the family. I also told her to make sure you all write something for the Aurora so the sorors can read about them. Also, I tried to find a website for your chapter but I couldn't seem to find one. If you have one, please post the URL.:) I may be leading the effort to reactivate the Alpha Eta Sigma (Philly Alumnae) Philo Club so I may be calling on you in the future for a little help. |
Do we have any updates???

Alpha Eta Sigma has been consistently active since 1941. The chapter maintains on average between 40 to 60 sorors, sometimes more. Many of the undergrad members from schools in Philly and the surrounding areas: University of PA., Temple, Cheyney, Penn State, West Chester, Lincoln, and others end up transferring to this chapter upon graduation, although there is another chapter now in Chester, PA. (Theta Psi Sigma) that was chartered in 1999 I believe. I recently reactivated with Alpha Eta Sigma for the upcoming sorority year which begins in September. Let me know if you are looking to transfer and I'll contact the chapter Basileus. Also, their website is www.sgrhophilly.org. |
Nice Website Alpha Eta Sigma!
