Roses and Thorns
 

Hi KD Ladies! I thought I'd start a sort of KD Random thread based on something my chapter used to do at the end of every meeting. We would pass around a box, and each member could put in a slip of paper with a "Rose" or a "Thorn" on it. People could give a rose to someone who had done something nice for them during the week, or to their roomates, or for a birthday. Thorns were given out for bad things like, "Thorns to the annoying guy at the club who had a mullet" or "Thorns to Suzy for drinking the last of the milk and putting the empty carton back." It was just a fun way to end the meeting.

I thought it would be a fun way to get to know each other if every day we could write our "Roses and Thorns" - roses for something good that is happening in your life, and thorns for the things that are not so good.
I'll start!

Roses for the fact that I got to visit my family for a week.

Thorns because I have to leave tomorrow :(

We use to do this too...

Roses because Friday was the last day my students were in class and I get to start summer break soon!!

Thorns because they were one of the best classes that I have had and they left :(

Roses for a day off from work tomorrow.

Thorns for trying to make up for lost hours at work later in the week!:rolleyes:

Roses to the Veterans of our Armed Services, may we remember them on this Memorial Day.

Thorns to starting summer school tomorrow.

Roses for enjoying a beautiful weekend in DC.

Thorns for Congress being in recess making my job the most boring 9hrs a day for the rest of the week.

Roses to ta kala for getting to be a CDC!

Roses for the fact that my summer school prof does not seem to be as hard as everyone made him out to be!

Thorns to the guy on Amazon.com that shipped my order without a tracking number, so now I have to file a claim because I never got it.

Ahh I have heard of roses & thorns but my chapter doesn't do it...I think we'd get too chatty and chapter would drag on and on. Haha.

Roses for having lunch with an old friend today! :)

Thorns for someone making fraudulant charges on my credit card...I'm still trying to straighten out that mess! :eek:

Fraudulent charges...Major thorns! I hope you get that taken care of!

Thorns for waking up early on a Saturday because I have to go to class because my prof. is a tenured jerk on a power trip.

Roses for a bar-b-q for one co-worker this afternoon, and a party for another co-worker tonight!

roses for having the BEST weekend at a friend's house at the outer banks--jetskiing, crabbing, and spending time on the boat! :D

thorns for being back at work and a bit sore and sunburned! :mad:

Our chapter doesn't do Roses & Thorns, but we do something similar called KD did-its. Near the end of meeting, everyone who has something to share stands up, and we go around the circle saying "My KD did-it goes to (Mary) for (helping me thaw out my car after the last snow storm)." Sometimes they are funny, sometimes they're a bit serious, but it's always nice to recognize yours sisters in meeting for the things they do everyday.

We also do something called hot seat. Each week everyone who meets a certain criteria (wearing black, with their hair up, who is right handed, etc.) goes around the circle and compliments who ever's name has been drawn. We have a fairly small chapter, so it works well for us!

Restaurant woes:

Roses for getting my correct tab billed to my account (after having three others show up on there that weren't mine)...

...thorns for still having someone else's billed to me.

Gonna be an interesting afternoon on that one. :(

Thorns for having the longest day on Capitol Hill ever -- college just doesn't prepare you for the real-world with it's 60 and 90 minute classes... and work during college (even though I worked FT my last 2yrs) just isn't the same as having a career.

But roses for RSVPing to my first KD AA event coming up in a few weeks! I'm SO excited! :D

Roses: Yep, sure did. The manager gave me $40 in gift certificates, so it wasn't that bad of a trade off for an extra $10 that didn't clear from my account.

Thorns: Aughhhhhh stomachaches!!!

Roses for my new green (and another shade of green and another) and pink and white striped dress for our "Preakness" themed night of Rush -it's super cute and the night is shaping up to be adorable all around.
Thorns for having trouble finding an awesome enough hat to go with the dress that won't cost me an arm and a leg (I can't in good conciense spend upwards of a hundred dollars on a hat that I have plans to only wear once!)
Actually...since I'm here, anybody have any thoughts/good websites/stores where I can find something? So far department stores and their respective websites have been dissapointing.

Why don't you look at TJMaxx....I saw some cute ones there recently. Or better yet, buy a plain hat and add on to it! You could get some beads and feathers and other things at a craftstore and just add on! :)

roses for seeing phantom of the opera last night at the kennedy center in dc (and it was PHENOMENAL)

thorns for oversleeping this morning!

A friend of mine went to see that last night...and what's with so many of the KD's here on GC being from or in the DC area?? Weeeeird. What're you up to in DC besides seeing Phantom? (wonderful show by the way, first thing I ever saw on Broadway)

ETA: And thank you for the TJMaxx hint, there's one I'd forgotten about in Friendship Heights... (and decorating was already on the back burner as an idea lol)

Roses: My daughter, who has been taking swimming lessons, swam the full length of the pool yesterday!

Thorns: A rental car company double billed my account, and it's going to be messy to get things straightened out in " 5-7 business days".:eek:

Awwww, I hope you get that figured out soon!^^^ I swear, I'm going to start paying for everything in cash again!

Roses for attending the Miss Clemson University Homecoming Pageant and cheering on an amazing KD sister who represents our chapter with so much poise.

Thorns because who knows what the judges were thinking and this amazing KD didn't make top 10. :(

Roses because I LOVE my new job, Florida, and where I live.

Thorns because house hunting is wearing me out!

Okay...it's a little late, but I wanted to post in a few other places and let some good friends know.

Lots and lots of roses because.....

I am serving on the CAB for Delta Eta at USF :)

I'll be working with the VP of Operations as well as the Secretary. Both were VERY happy to get an advisor, and I'll be helping the chapter as they transition over to new officers in the near future.
