It gets confusing after a while

Have you ever been to a small town where Walmart is the "happening" place? You look at the hair products section to discover that they only have four different colors of dyes...and they are just different shades of blonde. As a result, most of the girls from the town have one of four shades of blonde hair...if they are around the same age it makes it really really hard to tell them apart.

Sometimes I feel like that way when I log on GC. Whenever I see all of these SigKap's, 08's, 1920’s, AOII's, Blu’s, adpi's, XO's, etc...etc..in usernames, I feel like I'm watching the world news at 5:30 when they are broadcasting in schools where all of these little ethnic kids are wearing whack uniforms and have the same hairstyles.

Am I the only who gets people confused on here?

AlphaFrog 05-24-2007 12:08 PM

ZTAMich
ZTAngel
AOII Angel
AOII Silver
AOII Alum
alum
DeltAlum
aephi alum
etc.
etc.

I have no idea how you could get confused.;)

This sounds like the start of a new game. Like the song name game. Connect the GC usernames.

banditone 05-24-2007 12:12 PM

I only get confused and mixed up between the following names:

Phi Sigma Kappa
Pi Kappa Phi
Phi Kappa Tau
Phi Kappa Sigma
Phi Kappa Psi

Ohh, you're talking about usernames... Nevermind.

umm, yeah. Beacon, NY. the parking lot is always packed. it had a supermarket attached to it and a garden/car repair shop too. i dont have a wal-mart nearby so i dont go often to know if that is standard or like a Super Wal-mart.

it was like the hangout that one summer i stayed up there - everyone pregame in the cabins, then go bowl a couple frames at the alley that closes at midnite, and then hit up the Wal-mart down the road for hours of stupid fun.

Hey, all I know is that no one created a GC acronym for me ;) *whistles innocently*

Unless,

DAYM? (Dinoysus, are you me?)

Oh hahaha, you're so funny. ;) After all the differences we've posted about each other, I don't still don't see how it ever got to be an issue. We really aren't anything alike, but there seem to be only 5 people in all of GC who think so.

But yeah, I get mixed up with anything with Blu in it. I think I mixed up 2 people with Blu in their names and it turned out that one was a guy and the other was a girl. Oops. :o

Yeah...for one, this CG doesn't post ridiculous stories about irresponsible and illegal acts that she's committed and then laughed about, and then get mad when people call her on it.

If one of the KSig's didn't put a truck in his signature, I'd never know the difference between KSigKid and KSigRC

AKA_Monet 05-25-2007 12:16 AM

You all are funny... :D Is your Alheizmer's kickin' in? Or your sometimer's?

jennie3576 05-25-2007 12:19 AM

not only am i still trying to keep everyone strait (newly re-addicted!) I have a hard time remembering who's in what group if it's not cut-n-dry in their username or sig! i know, i suck. but in my case - if i didn't put ast in my sig, who'd remember? 'cause jennie is such an exptic name it'd be easy to keep straight, right ;)

i am glad i'm not the only one who's stumbeld over names....

yes! that truck straightened me out when i got really confused reading a thread and i couldn't figure out why the same person was having a conversation with themselves...:o

SoCalGirl 05-25-2007 03:21 AM

DAYM? ---> Love It!

Last night I was trying to think of how to start a thread with this same topic. Thankfully Dionysus was in my head to take care of the situation! :)

I get almost all of the Sigma Nu guys confused. Not only are many of their names kind of similar, but their signatures and posting styles are too. I'm always double checking post histories to try and keep them straight.

I also find myself wondering if I remember posters correctly because they've changed their names and I can't keep them straight or if they took a leave of absense for an eternity.

To answer the first question, Walmart was the isht when I was in high school. It was the only place to hang at 3 AM where the cops would leave you alone even if you were breaking curfew.

That is my biggest problem. I get confused when trying to remember if someone changed their name or are new. Especially the Sig Kapps.

AOII Angel 05-25-2007 11:03 AM

Hmmmm...maybe I should be a little more careful with things I say (er...type!) if someone else with a similar name may have to pay the consequences. Oh well....that's half the fun of it anyway!

I'm usually pretty good at figuring out what things mean based on the context, but I'm thoroughly stumped right now. Granted, I'm working on only 1 cup of coffee and way too little sleep. But still, I should be able to figure this out.

What's "exptic" mean? Exceptional? Accepted? Expletive?

But yeah, people's names confuse me. Not to mention when someone changes usernames completely. I know they used to be something else, and at some point I would've known what, but now.... ???

Seriously, to all the other parents of babies/toddlers... I can't take much more sleep deprivation. When does it get better?? I'm beginning to see why it is such an effective torturing method.

My first one slept through the night at like 2 or 3 months. This one is 6 months and we just now got him down to waking up once a night (if we're lucky).

And, on topic, half the time I read your username as "SnakeyK" and think you're a SK.:)

ETA: Do you think she meant to type "exotic" instead of "exptic"??

No it means I am a dumbass and can't type sometimes :) It was supposed to be something along the lines of "like Jennie is such an EXOTIC name.....

=)

AGDee 05-25-2007 01:54 PM

In our defense with the KSigs, they are also brothers from the same chapter, so it's even tougher in some ways.

ETA: People changing screennames totally messes me up too.

I get it now. Exotic.

Makes perfect sense. :o

Alzheimer's is not pronounced Oldtimers. Sorry, that's a pet peeve of mine.

Speaking of names, I've requested a namechange twice from John and he persists in ignoring me. Can the supermoderators take care of namechanges?

Yeah, but one of my professors told me that it is pronounced "Alltimer's" because that's the German pronunciation. If anyone here speaks German, does "zh" make an American "t" sound? Because I didn't buy it, but hey, I don't speak German.

jennie3576 05-25-2007 07:57 PM

My mom, who is Polish (came here from Poland in 1964) had to learn German when she was in grade school. She says it's more like a "tz" sound - all-tzy-mers. But, she also says she left Poland so long ago, so her memory may be a little shoddy.

Alzheimer's is different from "oldtimers" and both those are totally different from sometimer's.

Some times I remember, some times I forget...

Alzheimer's is generally characterized by beta-amyloid plaques on the neurons that causes 1st short-term memory loss, then long-term memory loss. Eventually the sufferers forget how to do non-voluntary functions such as breathing...

Oldtimer's is just generated by age and old. It is not medical and most folks are cantankerous.

Sometimer's is generated by age and is middle-aged. It too is not medical and most folks who have it are honery.

I am nowhere close to be an awesome supermoderator... If that comment was not for me, for that I apologize since some folks on GC are rather touchy and hardcore about appropriatly stating everything on a "free for all" board. But, hey, we have some level of decorum.

I know what Alzheimer's is, I work in the medical field myself. I also know a lot of people who pronounce Alzheimer's as Oldtimers and it really annoys the hell out of me.

Your grandmother is close to right, Jennie, and your professor is wrong, cg. Z in German is pronounced "ts" (like in Mozart) so that it's ALTS-highm-ers. (The z and the h would be in two different syllables -- Alz-heim-ers.)

At least, based on standard German pronunciation, that is probably how Herr Doktor Alois Alzheimer said it.

honeychile 05-30-2007 10:45 PM

I'm in geriatrics, and I was told the ALTS-high-mers pronounciation, too. But when someone is in the full throes of the disease and meets you at the door in nothing but knee socks, the pronounciation is the last thing on your mind.
