Chapter Pets

Does your chapter have a pet?
A lot of Sigma Nu chapters usually have a pet Snake. We had a Basset Hound named Norman Synbad Westerfeld.

Here's his composite pic:

The only animals we were allowed to have in the house were fish, so no, we didn't have an official pet. There was this cute little kitty who camped out on our back patio all the time. She never went away, so we started feeding her and ended up naming her Violet.

We have a 2 year old Ball Python named Zeta (after our chapter...Zeta Iota)

UC Berkeley Sigma Nu has three snakes named Alpha 1, Alpha 2, and Alpha 3 in honor of the Founders.

Fresno State USED to have a 15 foot long Boa named Zima but she passed away last year after over 10 years of living at the Fresno Sigma Nu.

I know that the DU chapter at Northwestern has a female dog (Pug, I think.).

I saw them walking the dog in their letters and then take it in the house (they were walking the dog to a greek event).

We aren't allowed to have pets in the sorority houses at UCF. However, there's a dog (or was... when I was there) that would wander from Tri-Delta to Kappa Delta to ADPi. We called him the Delta Dog and the KD's built him a little dog house. He seemed happy and well-fed, so I'm not sure if he was a stray or just a rambler.

When I rushed, AEPhi had a cute little house dog. I don't remember what kind it was but I do remember they brought him out after the first round skit. :)

My Boyfriend is in AEPi here at the U of Oregon, and they have a cat named Petunia. And an elected "cat chair"

AOE2AlphaPhi 05-24-2007 03:15 AM

The girls who lived in the basement of our chapter house had a cat this year, but they're living out and studying abroad next semester, so she's moving to the live out house with them.

Wendel the chihuahua. :)

The only picture I could find was me punishing him for pooping on the floor. Hahaha.

AND NO THE RED CUPS DO NOT CONTAIN ALCOHOL. Just to get that out of the way. I believe it was ice cream social night.

That basset hound is the cutest thing ever!!!

We had a kitty named Calva ;) for a very short period of time.

Most of the fraternities had dogs when I was in school and they always came to Greek Week events. The Sig Eps' dog got pregnant at Greek Olympics one year because she was the only female, but no one was ever sure who the puppy daddy was. :p

banditone 05-24-2007 09:49 AM

girl, that puppy daddy better take care of his kids!!!

susan314 05-24-2007 09:52 AM

I'm surprised that some of the sororities had chapter pets - I'm fairly certain pets wouldn't have been allowed at any of the sorority houses on my campus. Some of the fraternities may have had them, but the sorority houses were generally in far better condition than the fraternity houses. Our house corps liked to keep them that way.

(Unless they were unofficial pets that lived with out of house sisters?)

I recall several years ago the Housemother at the Chi Omega house at Univ. of Alabama had a dachshund named "Beanie Weenie."

I am crazy about dachshunds, but that was the meanest lil guy I've ever met!

honeychile 05-24-2007 10:07 AM

We had an illegal kitty when a senior had to take it prior to her graduation. His name was, of course, Alphie. I don't think she would have gotten away with it if she wasn't terribly close with our housekeeper! (*makes note to find picture of the ever so cute Alphie*)

I'm pretty sure you'd be mean too if your name was Beanie Weenie and you had girls cooing over you all the time.

Well, good point. (Come to think of it, most of the chapter members left him alone.) :)

We weren't supposed to have pets, but one my sisters had a pet rabbit named gidget,
i had a hamster (hank) and a guinea pig (cheech)
and one of my other sisters had a pomeranian (madison)
a few of the other girls had their dogs "visit" too...
i think gidget the most mascot-y of the bunch though

ForeverRoses 05-24-2007 02:53 PM

The SAEs had a bulldog, I think his name was Adolphus (or something like that)- and that dog was VERY well cared for- He was always on College Green catching frisbees and going on walks with various brothers. They even had a policy about the dog not being at parties so that noone was tempted to do something mean to him. (but he did get to ride the homecoming float one year).
Our house mother had a cat named Bridget, but she the kitty was kept in her suite - not roaming the house.

Drolefille 05-24-2007 02:57 PM

We had Minnie, a cute kitty. She actually belonged to one of the members, however she lived in an apartment with 3 other sisters and occasionally visited our chapter meetings smuggled into the Greek building under a coat.

No one else has a goat?

kchaptergphib 05-25-2007 02:11 AM

Nice, texas beta. Our goat at Minnesota lived out on a house corp boardmember's farm. It only came to campus for initiation.

But really, DU has a lovely chocolate lab named "Tango". Before I got my own dog senior year, I used to pick her up and take her to the lake or the dog park.

rufio 05-25-2007 07:50 AM

we have a giant plastic duck..his name is Quackers, and we have a taxidermy duck...his name is Duck Norris

Had one, but Bojangles died. Not sure how it happened, a Dick Cheney-esque hunting accident, maybe

AGDClio 05-25-2007 11:40 AM

The Pikes here have a golden retriever named Smythe. He originally started out as one of the brother's, but was pretty much adopted by the house. The Sigma Pi's have a cat, whose actual name is escaping me but whom everyone calls Dinner, who also started out as a brother's cat. That particular brother has enlisted in the Air Force, so when he leaves the cat is going to stay.

We don't have sorority houses here, but one of our sisters had a flying squirrel for a while. He was a cool little guy and our unofficial little mascot.

Ohhhhh....seeing this picture makes me want to cry. I just gave up my three year old basset hound, Fred. What sweet dogs! Unfortunately, they are not ideal dogs to have in a home with no backyard!
As for Beenie Weenie....dachshunds tend to have strong personalities (except for my dog Rascal who is afraid of his own shadow!) I have two males and my mom owns a female. Two out of the three can be b*tches!

Salamandar 05-25-2007 04:09 PM

In 2004 one of my bros adopted a dog that I hear was part corgi and part pitbull. He had the biggest head and the littlest legs thus his name was Stubby. One ear stayed up, the other did not, it was funny. I loved that dog. When we moved to our new house he lived with me and my big bro cuz his owner was rooming with my pledge bro and my pledge bro hated the dog and the dog hated him. Most the people liked him but not all. One guy had a $200.00 reward for whoever killed Stubby. Unfortunately Stubby got hit by a car in a few summers back. Since then I have been the only house pet, well, we kinda have a snake that we randomly found crawling under a couch when we went to move the couch outside it was under it and for some reason its in a tank in our garage. Anyways, here's a few pictures of the coolest house pet ever...

Love the 1 ear up / 1 ear down. To cool.

Hayden Fox 05-25-2007 05:38 PM

Did the person driving the car get the 200 bucks?

AGDClio 05-25-2007 05:44 PM

I have a dalmatian/jack russell mix whose ears do the same thing. We think it makes her look confused all the time.

NutBrnHair 05-25-2007 05:46 PM

I will admit that we had a taxidermy owl while I was a collegian. I'm sure it was probably illegal or inappropriate at the very least. We did dress it up for holidays and special ocassions. She looked good with sunglasses and a bandana!

Do all Pi Kappa Alpha chapters have dalmations, or just the ones I've visited?
