So You Think You Can Dance: Season 3

Premiers 8 p.m. Thursday on Fox. I can't wait! I love this show! :)

KDAngel 05-24-2007 01:14 AM

No, I definitely live on my own now. But I got into watching this stuff as an editor at my university's paper the past 2years where I wrote entertainment reviews as well. And now I'm writing freelance reviews while working in DC on another job since my recent graduation. So at least I'm getting paid to watch this stuff. :p

P.S. I'd NEVER watch reality TV without my DVR though. I make 1hr shows go down to about 15minutes. And shows like AI down to about 3-4, where I just watch the last few minutes where the vote off and recap the night's events.

jess_pom 05-24-2007 07:35 PM

My coworker's wife auditioned in NYC this season. I'll tune in tonight to find out if she gets any airtime. She made it to second callbacks.

KDAngel 06-07-2007 10:53 AM

Anyone else watching? I prefer this over AI any day. :D

FSUZeta 06-07-2007 03:48 PM

i love this show(but not all the commercial breaks). this is the only reality show i will watch.

ShaedyKD 06-07-2007 09:50 PM

I'm so glad that drama queen Olivia got kicked off, she was so annoying with her sorry attitude.

FSUZeta 06-08-2007 09:33 AM

i'm kind of surprised that they did kick her off-reality shows seem to love to keep that personality type around for the drama.

i felt so bad for the final two guys and girls-how tough was that to have to be the last to be informed if you were staying or going?

did it seem to anyone else that a proliferation of hip-hop guys made it to the final 10?

KDAngel 06-08-2007 10:42 AM

I really like this final group. I was sad to see my favourite girl go though. She was really young though, so she can definitely come back I'm sure, but I really liked her.

Do you think that they keep some of the hip-hop dancers to give the show a broader appeal? I love the the more technical dancers, but would anyone watch if the 'classically' trained dancers were the only contestants?

xo_kathy 06-08-2007 10:55 AM

I didn't see the top 20 last night, but I wanted to comment on the group choreography thing - it's ridiculous. The show is about DANCING. I'm a dancer, I have a degree in it. Not ever dancer is a good choreographer. I think some of those people who didn't make it after that round were vicitims of bad choreography and that's a shame.

Faith4Keep 06-08-2007 10:55 AM

I'm watching too! I felt so bad for the last two girls. I'm really sad that the girl who had the prosthetic arm wasn't invited to the top 20- I loved her dancing!

EXACTLY! that one group that had the girl come out of the suitcase - my friend (the black dude with the cornrows - we're both NYU RA's) is a dancer/choreographer and i felt so back when nigel ripped them a new one over the bad choreography.

my friend's a good dancer - let him come back on!!!!!!! LOL

I agree. It's like saying that all singers can write a song. I didn't think it was fair that they made them do that.

KDAngel 06-08-2007 12:39 PM

^I don't see what was wrong with that though. I mean, they gave the people who screwed up royally (the suitcase group) a chance to dance for their lives. I think the judges saw beyond bad choreography and focused on talent and let people dance to save themselves if things were questionable.

SoCalGirl 06-09-2007 02:31 PM

I am stoked that Hok finally made it!!!!!

I think they're heavy on the Hip Hop dancers this year because in the first two seasons Nigel constantly said he wanted a Hip Hop dancer to go far in the competition. The best way to do that is to put more Hip Hop dancers in the final 20.

Is anyone else annoyed that they didn't even mention the blonde girl from last season who Nigel guranteed a spot in Vegas for this season???

I kept trying to remember if that was from last season or the first season! Cause I know something similiar happened the first season and the girl made it into the top 20 last season... Maybe she decided not to do the show or something? I dunno.

lauralaylin 06-09-2007 08:43 PM

Yeah, I'm annoyed about it. I was wondering what happened to her, she was really cute!

xo_kathy 06-09-2007 11:43 PM

I scanned the message boards on the SYTYCD website and they were talking about some girl named Claire who was supposed to come back. Is that her? Someone who dances with her said she got pregnant so couldn't come back this year. Could be a rumor, I don't know.

FSUZeta 06-14-2007 02:05 PM

did anyone watch last night?

KDAngel 06-14-2007 02:22 PM

Yes! Lacey (Benji's little sister) was SO good!! I also really like Jessi. I'm not sure who I like in the guys yet (I DO want a girl to finally win though), but I DO know that I don't like Ricky. I thought I could deal with him being a little "different," but I can't. He's just not for me. I don't think he'll stay.

LeslieAGD 06-14-2007 02:26 PM

Most of the dances were great. I didn't like Ricky and the tall girl (Ashley?), and I didn't like Neil and Lauren.

AlethiaSi 06-14-2007 02:26 PM

ohh yea that girl that hurt her ankle or something? .... idk what happened to her

ya i watched last night- i missed all the ones before it though, I was so mad, i didn't even realize it was on! (but last summer i didn't have a job and had nothing better to do then sit and watch tv at night .... now i'm so busy i never get to watch tv!)
It is so nice to see everyone from last season in the audience, and i love Mia! I haven't seen the couples in action before last night so idk the story with them but i really liked couple #3 and couple #7 (i think.... they did the wade robson routine)

Mia IS fabulous!

And last night was the first night with the couples, so you've not missed anything. :)

FSUZeta 06-14-2007 03:00 PM

i was impressed with them all, some more so than others. i liked the disco routine and the broadway number the least. i felt bad for the couple(was it ricky and ashley ?) who danced the tango and were criticized because the girl was bigger than the guy. what did they expect them to do-chop off her feet?

alethia, it will be coming on again tonight!

LeslieAGD 06-14-2007 10:30 PM

Based on the bottom three couples, I was glad that Ashley and Ricky went home. I thought Neil and Lauren should have been in the bottom instead of Dominic and Sabra, and I was hoping Neil would go home and they would give Ricky another chance. I just don't think Neil is that good compared to the others.

AlethiaSi 06-14-2007 11:01 PM

for some reason, Ricky really bothered me... idk why
but for both of their solo's... they did kind of suck... i mean picking barbara streisand and writhing all over the floor? come on....

FSUZeta 06-15-2007 08:52 AM

yeah, what was up with that? do you think maybe she wanted to go home?

i think spinner boy-dominic, will be the next to go. take away his spins and there is not much there.

and what did you all think of benji's solo?

xo_kathy 06-15-2007 11:15 AM

Ricky was weird looking, but a really beautiful mover. I think he deserved to stay for longer. The reasoning they gave for keeping the other guy - his personality - seriously, that doesn't get you far in the dance world. I've never once been asked to chat with someone at an audition - only dance. They don't want to hear you talk!!!

Benji's solo was...um...yeah...It's clear he's been taking other technique classes (he was lifting and kicking his leg way more than a swing dancer normally would), but I didn't get the dropping pants thing at the end - though it did make me laugh.

On that note, can I tell you how much I HATE this trend in hiking the leg up to the side and leaning over? It's not a true show of your extension because you are bent over and your hips are all out of alignment. Plus, I don't need to see anyone's crotch that much. I've never been in a legit technique class that included that. I think it's something they are doing at these suburban studios now and people think it's impressive? If you notice, none of the real choreographers ever put that in their pieces...Sorry, it drives me crazy...

LeslieAGD 06-15-2007 11:25 AM

I really like Dominic, so I am glad that he stayed. I wasn't all that excited by Benji's solo.

co-sign!

and why do i feel like this season will not be exciting?

FSUZeta 06-15-2007 04:14 PM

i agree tld221-the expertise just doesn't seem to be there this season.

xokathy, i appreciate hearing from a dancer-i took piano lessons. i don't like the raised leg, flexed, not pointed foot. heck, i could do that, and i'm no dancer. and i think the crotch shots are tacky.

Lily1909 06-17-2007 02:39 PM

I was hoping for more from Benji.

Love his personality and energy, but it just didn't come across in that solo.

It will be exciting to see what Lacey can do.

LeslieAGD 06-21-2007 03:21 PM

No comments about last night...?

My favorite couples are (in no particular order):
Dominic and Sabra
Lacey and Kameron
Pasha and Jessie
Anya and Danny
Jesus and Sara

I don't care for Neil and Lauren at all and I don't know what the judges saw because I thought the routine was boring.
I don't think Faina is really that great and Cedric is a one-note hip-hop dancer.

I like Jimmy, but not Shauna; however I did like that choreography and I thought they both did it rather well.
Hok and Jaimie are okay, but IMO they are better separately than they are dancing together.

AlethiaSi 06-21-2007 10:01 PM

ok so i caught the last 5 minutes, and saw that Faina or whatever her name is is gone (thank goodness, she irritated me and wasn't that good)
so what happened during the show? who were the bottom 3 couples?

I was glad she left too. In fact, I was happy with Jimmy leaving too. I didn't even know his name, so worked for me. And I was all about Nigel telling Cedric not to screw up again, but did you see his 'dance for your life' -- omigosh, it was crazy. Shauna's really was great, as much as I don't like her otherwise.

So the bottom three were...
1) Faina and Cedric
2) Shauna and Jimmy
3) Jessie and Pasha (totally didn't deserve it)

I really liked Dominic and Sabra's routine this past week. Like Mia said, all the hooks were great!

My favourites:
-Lacey and Kameron (but I think I really like Lacey and don't ever pay attn to Kam)
-Pasha and Jessie
-Dominic and Sabra

And I like Neil. I'm not sure why, but I do. I thought I'd like Lauren more before the top 20 started, but alas, I do not.

LeslieAGD 06-22-2007 09:18 AM

I was really surprised they kept Cedric instead of Jimmy. I didn't like Faina, but she was the only good part of their routine this week, and I think it was unfair to get rid of her and keep Cedric.

I thought both Shauna and Jimmy did a better job dancing for their lives. I bet Shauna walked away pissed off that she saved herself but now she has to dance with Cedric and is just going to land in the bottom again.

I agreed with the judges that Jessie's solo dance sucked, but I didn't agreed that Pasha's was bad...I kinda liked his.

xo_kathy 06-22-2007 10:03 AM

I didn't see Jessie's solo, but I did see Pasha's and liked it. I think he shows he can be "ballroom" but still interesting. And their duet the night before I turned on as they started dancing and I thought he was one of the modern dancers (I hate the word contemporary...it's modern dang it!!!) - so I look forward to more from him.

I can't believe they kept Cedric over Jimmy. They got rid of the other really great, technical dancer last week (Ricky?) and then get rid of another this week? I personally think there are way too many hip-hoppers left. I thought the head spinner guy (Dominic?) did great with his piece and was really impressed he stepped out of the box so successfully.

I'm glad Faina is gone!!!!

ZTABullwinkle 06-22-2007 10:52 AM

Last season, didn't they switch partners every week? I think that would be better than having someone stuck with the same partner who isn't cutting it.

I also wish they would have a show where they would "explain" the different dance types and what to expect. I don't have a dance background and am confused as to what to look for in some of the types of dance.

They did that first season but not last year. I think the new format has its benefits. The more you dance with someone, the more you get to learn their techniques and how to merge your styles together. It just sucks for people who have a partner who isn't learning and growing as the weeks go on.

FSUZeta 06-23-2007 06:02 PM

i too was disappointed that they kept cedric-he seems like a sweet guy, but he has one dance and that is it. he is in way over his head. he'll be gone next week.
