Vh1 Rock Docs: Last Days of Left Eye

"Last Days of Left Eye"
May 19, 2007
9/8 C

Anyone else excited to see this? it looks into the final days of TLC member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, when she went to Honduras for a spiritual retreat and ended up being killed in a car accident. I had no clue she was filming a documentary while down there, this should make for some interesting yet sad viewing.

RedefinedDiva 05-19-2007 09:16 PM

So far, I'm not feeling it. I don't know what I expected, but this isn't it. Hopefully, it will get better....

FeeFee 05-19-2007 09:49 PM

Aw man, I forgot all about it.

I'm sure VH1 will have this on repeat several times.

txdiva 05-19-2007 09:57 PM

It'll be on again @ 1 am EST/12 am CST tonight!

Senusret I 05-19-2007 10:19 PM

I was on the phone for the first hour. I'm watching the second hour now..... it's interesting. But I don't think I was ever that emotionally invested in Left Eye.

RedefinedDiva 05-19-2007 10:55 PM

This is just an E! True Hollywood Story spoken in Left Eye's own words. It is not revealing that many new facts, aside from the Andre Rison situation. She revealed a few more facts that I didn't know. However, there is too much editing going on. It looks like a final project that I would have put together in my Film Production class in undergrad.

Some of the old clips made me lift an eyebrow, but hey....

IlovemyAKA 05-19-2007 10:59 PM

I'm catching the end of it. I'm surprised it's still on. This is some ending...I never knew those last moments were caught on tape...

Same thing I said.... That's truly something.... I wonder if there was more to the video, but it was just edited for TV purposes.

It's a wonder everyone else made it out alive.

DSTCHAOS 05-19-2007 11:31 PM

I watched it.

I feel some kind of way about it. Not sure how I feel just yet. :(

I was never emotionally invested in Left Eye but her passing came a little while after Aaliyah's. So it made me sad within that context.

What did they show? I had flipped away during a commercial and missed it.

The last thing I saw was the Lopez boy'z shoes after Lisa Lopes accidentally hit him.

I was typing what happened, but then realized that not everyone has seen it. I'll PM you. ;)

Thanks. :)

I'm disturbed by your PM, though. :(

DSTCHAOS 05-20-2007 12:03 AM

I'll ask the group what I asked Redefined via PM:

Do you all think Left Eye committed suicide? It seems so foreshadowed. It starts with her saying she foresaw her death and then she gets a red SUV instead of the regular van they were driving. Throughout, she displayed suicidal and destructive thoughts and behaviors.

RedefinedDiva 05-20-2007 01:46 AM

Building from the above question and not trying to ruin the end for anyone, but this question will help you to look closely and let me know if I am crazy:

Did Lisa look increasingly distressed in the final scenes in the SUV? To me, it seemed as if she had a strange look in the eye and written on her face, as if she knew or felt something.

Now, it could just be ME reading too much into it or looking for something that isn't there, but considering her premonitions, I'm just wondering if she knew that her "time" was upon her.

Senusret I 05-20-2007 03:03 AM

I hope I'm not stoned for saying this..... but the whole thing was vaguely narcissistic to me.

I will type more a little later when I wake up.

It was EXTREMELY narcissistic.

Including her tragic end. That's why her tragic end seems very strange to me.

jitterbug13 05-20-2007 04:19 PM

I'm thinking she knew that her time was up. Especially with the premotions and the boy getting hit. Maybe she wanted to be in a better place mentally before she "transformed". I was talking to someone about this last night, and I remembered that Princess Diana gave away a lot of her dresses before her passing, and my grandmother, in her sick bed, talking up a storm the night before she passed. Some people just "know".

The special was interesting, but it reminded me a little bit of the Tupac documentary a few years ago. And with relatives in Atlanta, I heard a different story about why she burned down the house.

BlessedOne04 05-20-2007 04:28 PM

I don't quite know how to take this. I thought she was waiting for death. I'm not sure how I feel about the idea of suicide.

I was explaining the same thing to DSTCHAOS. Some folks 'know," even if they don't actually know.

What was the story with the house?

jitterbug13 05-20-2007 11:10 PM

I heard that she found out that he had another woman on the side and if I recall, had a baby by him. Going through all of that AND finding that out would make someone do crazy things (like burning down a mansion). And what was crazier was that they remained together almost up until the time she died.

DELTABRAT 05-21-2007 05:01 AM

I was saying the same thing. I was telling my sands that I didn't think that was the real footage of the fatal crash. I recall there being some other conditions, not a clear, sunny day with them driving like 15 miles per hour. Clearly there wasa lot of editing.

I also thought that it was eerily quiet in the car as if something were "planned." It was just odd that no oine was talking at all. I don't know what to think...

Here's the link for the story as it was discussed on GC years ago, as a refresher.

Still BLUTANG 05-21-2007 09:21 AM

i watched it and was bothered. I just think Lisa was into some things that were not helping her (mentally, spiritually). that girl needed HELP. poor soul.

MzJ25 05-21-2007 09:42 AM

This sounds very interesting. Now I'm gonna have to go home and find out when it's coming on again and Tivo it. Not like VH1 won't replay it 4 trillion more times anyway.

OneTimeSBX 05-21-2007 10:09 AM

i caught this Saturday night. i grew up with TLC in constant rotation in my tape deck lol...

Lisa had issues. point blank. she had a rough childhood, rough relationship, i think she was in search of something she was never going to find...i was sad watching it because she seemed so lost. it was kinda like watching an episode of "intervention" except you know how it ends...

I caught like the last 30 mintues, but I agree with you. All the while they keep saying how she felt that a "spirit" was chasing her, I kept saying to myself "girl, rebuke that thing in the name of Jesus!". But anyway......

I did think it was interesting though. I never knew that her album (Supernova) got dropped. I never knew she made a video either.

I too, grew up on TLC so when she died I took it very hard...I played all over her CDs over and over in my dorm...:(

I watched the special on Saturday and was left thinking it was so freaky...How she "knew" it was going to happen and the little boy she hit days before with the last name; Lopez.

It was creepy and sad.

EXACTLY!!!

I would have been trying to shake that spirit off, not trying to figure out what it meant. And I damn sure wouldn't have any haunted shoes in my hut. That whole documentary was weird.

I was like 'huh?' at that point...I mean Lopez IS a very common Spanish surname and she was in Honduras, so that I was like, maybe it was a coincidence.

Though I did sit and think about her comment regarding the spirit accidentally killing the boy instead of her....my mom raised me with those beliefs of "La Muerte" (Death), always being near us and just waiting for our time; I think alot of her perceptions of death were influenced by the Hondurans she met, that's a very Indigenous-Catholic notion of death, thought it was interesting

It was released overseas, but never saw the light of day in the States. I think the record company thought it wasn't good enough.

black_princess 05-21-2007 10:08 PM

yes this whole thing did stike me as odd, especially knowing how it ends. I've always had this "thing" with putting things away in my time-capsule or making a point to put certain things away in a safe place to look back on years from now. This film, struck up a passion in me tostart a daily video diary . . . I think I may start this evening . . ..

The videos looked cheesy. It looked like a subpar TLC mixed with Blaque.

RedefinedDiva 05-22-2007 10:27 AM

Some people have even been entertaining the idea that her death was staged. True, there were pictures of that horrible crash and, seemingly, video footage of her "final" moments. However, the doc also showed that this chick did go "missing" and staged a nationwide "manhunt" of sorts. Additionally, I'll still say that I was shocked that she was the only fatality of what appeared to be an awful crash. I know that it happens everyday, but this chick does have a wacky history.

And then, now that I remember, I recall the so-called morgue photos of her and I don't remember her having that on in the SUV. I'll have to watch the ending of the doc again. Maybe they put some clothes her on for purposes of integrity? Hmm....

Let's just say that I wouldn't be surprised if she is hanging out in the jungle right now.... *shrugs*

jitterbug13 05-22-2007 10:37 AM

Do you think she'll be hanging out in the jungle with Tupac and Elvis? :p ;)

MzJ25 05-22-2007 11:02 AM

I was checking on VH1 last night to see when this might come on again and it didn't look like it was coming on anytime soon. I really wanted to see it too.

It has aired like 3 times since Saturday.

VH1.com's schedule doesn't show it being aired again. :(

There are two discussion topics on the show's message board: http://www.vh1.com/shows/dyn/vh1_roc...pVspot(1540368)

ladylike 05-22-2007 11:13 AM

I'm so superficial. :o While watching to "documentary", I found myself focusing on the group Egypt and wondering why they were performing at a men's prison in freak'em wear/club clothes.

I'm still trying to decide if the "documentary" was an excercise in narcissism (I believe on some level, all entertainers are narcissist) or was it really a genuine plea for people to know who she really was.

Speaking of the jungle, the scene where she and her (at the time ) boyfriend were playing Tarzan and Jane made me chuckle. :o

Me too! I actually thought it was cute.... even though she was living it up while folks thought she was kidnapped or killed.

Amazingly, I don't recall ever hearing that "missing" story.

LMAO!!!! You are NOT alone!! I was thinking, "Here they are, HALF NUDE, and the prisoners are within arm's length. That can't be good." Then, just after I thought that, one broke free and ran up to do the dutty wine on one of them! I was in fear for the safety of these girls!

Were they singing in Swahili or something?
