Jerry Falwell dead at 73
Jerry Falwell was found unresponsive in his office at Liberty University this morning. He was taken to the hospital, and passed away around 12:30 ish.
http://www.wset.com/news/stories/0507/423247.html. This is the local TV station...they haven't fully updated their story yet...they just keep adding paragraphs to the top. A press conference is being pulled together right now. This is especially sad because Liberty University's commencement is this weekend. PsychTau |
Whoops! Crimson and I were posting at the same time!
Can we merge the two threads somehow? PsychTau |
I deleted mine. No biggie. :)

I think I might leave town this weekend with the thousands of people who will probably show up this weekend to remember Falwell.
Maybe we can finally have our city back from the Moral Majority... |
Very sad. I never did like the man and I despise most of his politics, however, I think his heart was in the right place. He did build Liberty into a powerful institution in a very short period of time.

I'm not a fan of the man AT ALL. He was notorious as a poor tipper (and big eater) when I was a waitress, and the way he brainwashes people irks me to no end. A large number of people who go to his school seem to worship him more than God. I don't think Jerry Jr. has the charisma that his dad had, and Jonathan doesn't have the smarts. Hopefully Liberty will go back to being a tiny Bible college. It'd sure make living here a lot better! |
i can't say i'm saddened by his passing because of the nature of his views and what he's said in the past, but i guess he stood by his convictions and there's something to be said for that. regardless, i hope he's at peace now.

Was I the only one shocked to see how much weight he gained???
I'm betting Jim Bakker isn't crying over this one. |

May his hell be an eternity spent at a Scissors Sisters' backstage aftershow party... |
I always liked the bumper sticker:
"The Moral Majority Is Neither." That being said, he did stick to his beliefs -- although they were a little too stringent for me. May he rest in peace. |

i agree with most comments.
he hit my bad side when my brother in law left the school because he was forbidden to date his white girlfriend while they attended...wtf? i will also be avoiding that area this weekend, ill probably stay in richmond now that everyone and their mother will be there! |

33 - when I heard that he had gone to breakfast with someone yesterday, and the man wanted to tell him something, my first thought was "do you really want to eat that two pounds of bacon?" *avoiding the lightening bolt" |

you win this thread, hands down! :) |
I just had the greatest thought in the history of the world. How awesome would it be if Phelps and his inbred bigotted family show up to picket Falwell's funeral?!! :D

He's being buried at the Carter Glass mansion on campus, complete with an eternal flame.
I'm sick of the newspaper devoting half of its space to him daily. We all know he's dead. We don't need to hear about his last meal at his favorite restaurant, Bob Evans (by the way, he had an omelet with extra cheese, sausage with extra mustard, and coffee. Wonder what killed him if he ate like that daily? hmmmm...). |
Some of you are simply pathetic.
As for Lynchburg, its a shitty town and I don't expect that to change simply because someone died. |
