For the girls: bra talk
I'm sure this will get some comments from the guys, but anyway...
I've given up finding cute bras that are reasonably priced. I'm also an odd size. Does anyone else share my pain? |

Freya!!!! They're the only company I know that makes cute bras, and they don't make anything smaller than a C cup. I love it.

I object to having to spend more than $40 on a bra. HELP me!

While we're talking about bras...I'm a A, barely a B. What I don't get is why there are "enhancing" bras that come in C and D. Come on now! I'm trying to look like I have something, so I pour my money into a VS bra with gel inserts, and cleavege inhancing, and blah blah blah, and then I find out they make the same thing in a D. How am I supposed to have good boobs when those born with good boobs are getting the same help!!!

VS and Maidenform don't make my size. Frederick's does, but the only bras in my size are incredibly ugly. I've had luck with Dillard's Cabernet line and found a couple from Felina... but they look like old lady bras. Ok, one of the Felina's is cute. I may need to check their web site and quit wasting my time in the dept. stores. Or start making my own. |
This reminds me of the Barry Gibb Talk Show from SNL.
"Talkin' bout bras - on the GC bra thread..." |
mmmm i am a C but i wear a B when i need the cleavage.... but i love love love maidenform's bra's- i get them from macy's and i think they are like 38 dollars and macy's always has like crazy coupons or buy 2 get 1 free....
i can't stand victoria's secret or really... anything else.... lol |
You should be present on the first day of Victoria's Secret Semi Annual Sale (I don't work there). The variety of sizes are there on the first day!! I am not an odd size, but one of my friends is and on the first day she really racks up. She usually gets them from $12.99 - $29.99. I would suggest you go....there should be one in a few weeks.
|
The only prob is that Victoria's Secret doesn't even manufacture my size! I wear a 32DD, and for some reason, it is the hardest size to find. I wore the wrong size bra for years, and always had issues adjusting it all the time. I got measured 3 years ago, and figured out what size I should be wearing-- but it's so hard to find that size in bras-- but when I can find them, the difference in fit is amazing! I've tried to wear 34D or 34DD, but they're too big on me-- it's just not the same fit.\
ETA: And I don't want it to look like I'm wearing medieval armor, either-- I hate when there are a zillion hooks down the back. |
one word:
Wacoal
|
You should check Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack. There is quite a variety and the Rack prices are decent.
Few weeks ago I went shopping with my girls and I had a coupon for Victoria's Secret. I haven't shopped there in years and decided to see what the hype was about. The one bra I wanted didn't even come in my size, and the sales person tried to sell it to me with an extender. Why would I pay almost $60 for a bra that wouldn't fit? |

All I can add is that once you find a bra that you really like and fits well, they will stop making that particular style IMMEDIATELY.

Also how much are you girls paying for a bra...VS is the highest in price I'll go for bras and undies......(shoes is another story though..:o ) |
i am expecting so my normal 36d is now a 42dd...
you just know you have a little too much on top when there are 4 hooks in the back lol! jcpenneys online catalog has a few nice ones. im past looking cute, i just want one that wont pop a boob out when i bend over, or make them look like cones! |
As a girl with large "girls" I recently started wearing Fantasie of England bras and they are worth every penny. I looked like I had lost about 5 lbs and it was very comfortable, no more digging into my shoulders. I don't know what people call cute, but I certainly thought they were pretty cute.
|
I wear a nearly impossible to find size. I do like Goddess bras, though - they have some cute styles, are under $40, and they go up to a J cup! (Unfortunately, not too many stores around here carry the full range of sizes - boo!)

I also find that the underwires in VS bras constantly pop out - and I'm not talking about your old crappy weekend bra, I'm talking brand new ones, on a pretty regular basis. I wear a 36D or DD depending on the style, so it's not like I'm a 45D that VS doesn't fit. I love my Wacoal bras - only $10 more for a bra that won't break and actually gives me some support without looking like a nursing bra. |
If your large (read: DDD or higher) Prima Donna bras are the only way to go. While they are super expensive (you can pay $100 + for them) they are great. The feel great, they make me look great, and they are really cute and sexy.
I've been a DDD+ since end of freshman year of college and these are the only bras that fit me right and they last. Wacol looked horrible on me after 3-4 months of wearing them...rotating them and hand washing them every night. |
I hate, hate, hate Victoria's Secret. Went in with my daughter to be fitted - woman didn't know how to fit her, called over the "expert" who informed me my decidely C cup daughter was an A. Um . . no. I am an A. I know the difference between an A and a C, even without a measuring tape.
They never have anything that works for an A cup, and I hate having to do their job for them. My daughter does well with their shoes, however. |

VS is really just cheaply made stuff that you pay too much for. I buy from them because I now know what size I wear with them, and I can order online, and I HATE bra shopping. (It's behind only bathing suit shopping and jean shopping in pure misery, IMO.) If you look online you may be able to find a 32DD because the range is greater, and at least you'd see what they have upfront. They have pretty good return policies, especially if you do buy in store, so if the wires are popping out, you can take them back. But if the other suggestions are actually good quality, VS isn't really going to compete with that. Anyone else have trouble finding bras that are supportive but don't create a quadra-boob effect under knits? Or that somehow manage to be comfortable without seeming like they have ace bandages for straps? |
I gave this thread a five star rating. Why isn't that showing up?

Another thing that pisses me off... why can't I find bras where the strap adjustor goes back and forth the entire way? When the bra loses a day's worth of elasticity, I can't adjust it for my tiny shoulders and the girls are forced to go a little lower! I HATE it! I don't need shoulder padding (at least not yet). I need reliable support! |

I really think I need to get measured, because I truly have NO idea what size I should be wearing.
If it is not padded, i'm around a B cup. If it is a padded bra (and not one of those Wonderbras, just a regular padded bra) then I'm a D cup. So I figured B-D=C...I should be around a C cup, right? Nooooope for the life of me, my boobs will NOT fit into any C cup bras. It is so frustrating because I know (by looking) that my breasts aren't D's...at least not full D's. Shoot my boobs are full at all, but that's another story....lol |
It seems to me that bra sizes are not as standardized as they used to be. I used to be able to pick up "my size" and it'd fit with pretty much any brand. Now I go into a fitting room with so many different cup and band sizes that I worry people think I'm the sales girl! There's no reason for me to have to try on such a range of sizes. :(

I am a hard fit, and being short doesn't help in terms of proportion. I don't mind spending $40 if it fits well and is pretty. Of course, I get one style and buy it in 5 colors. If you figure out how many wears you will get out of it, it isn't that expensive overall. Oh and I only buy VS.
|
I've noticed that they don't make cute small band/large cup sizes--unless you go to a place like Saks or Nordstrom and spend major money. VS certainly isn't making a 32D. It's frustrating! And it's BS that a 32D=34C or 36A.
Some of the mid-range to high-end clearance stores (Filene's Basement, Last Call, Rack, Off Fifth) have the European makers that actually cater to small band/large cups. They're not cheap at all--I found one ON CLEARANCE for $90. |

Not that I recommend them or anything. They don't seem to make 32DD however: http://www2.victoriassecret.com/sear...ize=select+one |

Endowments and Blessings...
I go to Nordstroms for their fittings. But I guess, if one is truly blessed, then Nordie's won't work.
I prefer La Perla and Neroli's. But you can only get good stuff in the Dallas Neiman Marcus off the 35. However, they don't make the fits for those who are blessed or not so blessed. On a serious note, please get properly fitted. No, you won't get breast cancer from wearing bras. But, you will suffer great discomfort needlessly. Amazing how the GC guys are not ackin' a fool up in here... |
