Im having trouble making this decision about my future in college...

See I just finished my process about 6 weeks ago, and during it had alot of family trouble that had me going between school and home almost daily.

Part of me wants to transfer to a school closer to home, but the other part of me keeps me thinking that I should stay down there just because it would just be messed up to transfer the year after I crossed.

Another reason why I might transfer is when I first came here I was told that they would have my major by my sophomore year and it looks like thats not going to happen, So i really don't have anything to major in here.

What do you guys think about this?

Even though your family is important you still have to live your life too. I did the same thing and transferred to a school back home and then I regretted it. But your circumstances are different because of the situation with your major so you may benefit more by transferring. Your status as to "life after crossing" should not even figure into this. You are in your organization for life so it should not be that big of a deal. The most important thing is your major and your future career plans. I wish you well.

Also this should probably be moved to another section of GC like Careers/Employment etc.

I understand were your coming from, but we are really small at my uni.. And part of me feels like I would be letting everyone down if I left.

Your first priority is your education, specifically the field you are hoping to find a job in.

I definitely understand your frustration and wanting to be close to your family. In my junior year of college, my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer and I was 3 hours away. I decided the best thing would be to go home as much as possible, but to also stay focused on school because that is what my family wanted as well. The most difficult thing is being emotionally drained that close to home and constantly in the mix of things. You have to ask yourself if you can handle being that close to home and not get too involoved. :(

At any rate, I do not suggest taking time off unless it is absolutely necessary!

Your desission has to be yours and yours only!

No matter what Family Affiliation may be, each chapter will be different.

Your choice will ge yours and only yours!

So, your decission will be to join or not!:)

There are many affiliations from many people who are on site.

I was, you were and they were!

But one way or the other still Greeks!:D

One of my two LS transferred the semester after we crossed. After she transferred, it left the chapter in kind of a lurch because we were small to begin with but we managed. She had to handle some family and career issues so we totally understood why. Good thing is that she affiliated with the chapter at her new university so she kept her commitment to the org.

IMO the deciding factor should be what are you going to major in? You have to declare one very soon. Also does the new school take credits and grades or just credits.

Lastly remember you processed Kappa, not xyz chapter. My guess is that the chapter will be okay.

See thats how our chapter is too. I guess thats why I feel like I would be letting them down.


I would be majoring in Aviation management if the program wasn't dropped at my current uni.

And the school im looking at takes all credits above a C avg. so its not gonna be a problem transferring if I do.

Excuses my newness, but why wouldn't it be that simple? We have about 2 or 3 bruhs that have transferred from other schools and they help out a whole bunch. Maybe I misunderstood the statement. :confused:

Actually you are right, I did misread the original post. I thought it was saying there could be other chapters close enough for him to join and yet stay involved with the current chapter.

Now does my response make sense in that light? ;)

I am not FROM Wilmington, in fact NOONE is FROM Delaware ;)

I live just south of Wilmington but my current chapter serves the entire county.

It sounds like you attend a relatively small school and I am thinking it is an HBCU.

I don't know what kind of major Aviation Management is--like aerospace engineering? So basically, if you pursued your major, what would your career be? Working at the airplane towers--the FAA stuff?

The reason I ask is sometimes you can be creative with your major, such as pursuing an engineering degree, but volunteering at the airport near the tower, the municipal airports may be more privy for that. Then, trying to get "Boeing Summer Internships" every year... Moreover, while you pursue that aspect, you need to be working with the "professional trade organizations" that support your career choice. Be very strategic in your choices.

I see little reason at this time to leave your school unless your issue is one of money. If you transfer closer to home, you will lose a year of credits and will have to pay for retaking classes. Most people think that one goes to college to get a better job. If that were the case, you can go to ITT or University of Phoenix for these degrees. But, you are there to educate yourself in a wholistic and well-rounded fashion. Getting that Bachelor's degree is a stepping stone. Pursuing a Master's, Doctorate or Professional Degree is when one generally and usually make judgements about programs.

So you first goal is your Bachelors. Then go to graduate school an become picky about your majors. It will not occur faster if you transfer.

As far as serving your Fraternity. Everyone who cares about you should understand your true goal. That's the good thing about Greeklife, we will be waiting for your return... It hurts when you leave, but sometimes in life, these things happen. However, you cannot be active unless you have the grades or graduate in the first place...
