Sigma Nu to recolonize at the University of Kansas
In case you missed it from the front page.
http://www.kansan.com/stories/2007/m...sigma_nu/?news They were gone for 2 years due to hazing. Sucks that AGD has to get booted, but that house is as Sigma Nu as they get. It even sits on a road called Sigma Nu Place. |
I'm sure the Gamms had fair notice.
I'm always concerned when I hear a group rents to a sorority. For some reason, those girls are always hell on plumbing.. at least according to other house corp officers I've spoken with. Speculatively, I'd have to say that the plumbing might be damaged by the girls with eating disorders, but that's just a guess. Great to see Nu coming back. God.. it's great to see our expansion team getting aggressive! When my colony became a chapter, we were the first new chapter in 3 years! I could rant about our oldtime colonization practices but there'd be no point. They've obviously turned things around. |
Kevin,
I agree completely! They are really taking off, and I love it. You have no idea how happy I am to see some of the old-schoolers back: - Kansas - Arkansas - Arizona State - North Carolina - LSU Sigma Nu has always been strong; but when campuses like the ones mentioned above are strong we are pretty damn stout. Question. I think we have a University of Central Florida founding father that posts here. I was wondering what they were doing in the way of housing? That campus seems pretty competitive, and the houses there I've seen look AWESOME. |
As far as I know (I actually transferred to the Eta Lambda chapter at the University of Cincinnati recently), Mu Psi isn't any closer to getting a house... UCF has been planning Greek Park 2 for some time now, and supposedly it will be completed in 2008. Our shots of getting space there aren't very good from what I've heard since we're pretty new and are a relatively small fraternity on campus. However, there are currently 3 empty houses on campus (Sig Ep, SAE and Pike I believe), so that may open up some slots in Greek Park 2 if those houses are still empty in 2008... We'll see what happens I guess.
|
wow, that SAE house is empty already? What happened to them?
Also, I think I read somewhere that the Cincy SN's got a new house? True? PIcs? thanks |
I think it's empty, not real sure... I know Sig Ep is. All of them got in trouble for some pretty serious hazing. I'm sure if you searched for it on the forums here you could find out more information.
I have a few pictures of the new Eta Lambda house (we're actually in the process of looking for a new house, as this one is being rented and is the cookie cutter community type house, shared with another fraternity)... I'll try and post them soon, but right now I'm actually editing photos from our formal that was last night. |
Wow. KU alumni have their stuff together.....

Anyone out there have connections in Lawrence? I'd like to hear how the Nu Chapter recolonization effort is going. All I know is that they are back on campus, and back in the EN house.
|
We went ther on sneak and they are doing well... we were the ones who brought girls to the party but they had mixers planned with AXO and Gamma phi... so they are movin on up
|
As far as I see it Recolonization is going extremely well. We finished our petition and sent it in earlier this semester. Don't quote me on this but from what I've heard as long as our house GPA for spring 08 is above a certain point and we recruit a good sized class we should receive our charter in the fall of 08. (again that is just what I've heard)
Also our recognition on campus is steadily increasing. As we only currently have 33 men in our house it's hard to make a name for ourselves on a campus of over 26,000, but through social, philanthropy, intramurals, IFC, and just day to day classes we have definitely made tremendous strides from where we were in the fall of 07. One last thing I'd like to say is how much I enjoy being a part of this incredible fraternity. As a senior in HS I wasn't planning on joining a Fraternity, but luckily for me my friend was being recruited by a Nu Chapter Alumni, and I was recommend to the Alumni and recruited. When I got to the house I really didn't know what to expect, but now after going through LEAD and speaking to many Alumni I feel extremely privileged to be part of such a unique history. Here in Lawrence we plan to continue and build upon that history and one day hopefully will be back where we used to be. |
Fully implement LEAD and VBR and it won't be long.
|
Sorry to crash, but I'd like to congratulate you guys on your recolonization at KU!! Keep up the good work!!

Good story on Rush at KU. I guess they do open rush, and then a formal rush. Sounds like Nu is doing fine.

Interesting article - thanks for sharing. Looks like Sigma Nu will take 27-30 pledges which is very strong. Hopefully they initiate 90% of them. I don't understand how they can already have 24 signed. It's not even July. I used to work for a guy who was recruitment chair for SAE at Kansas in the late '70's. He told me he would travel all over the mid-west going to peoples homes, meeting students and their parents, making presentations about their fraternity. I can't imagine making a decision about joining a fraternity because some guy flipped through a presentation on the coffee table of our living room. |
It seems odd to me about bidding these new students because at Tech we are not allowed to bid out individuals until after formal rush is completed. But congratulations to Sigma Nu out at Kansas!!
|
We did the same thing. Summer rush was when we built our class with parties and BBQ's and stuff. Back on campus we'd already have our class, then we'd do formal rush to grab a few to close out the class.

This thread is getting out of hand... http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...=1#post1672853
|
haha, that was an interesting topic that I have spent much time thinking about already.
|
Interesting stuff. I put in my 2-cents.
|
silly thread, and no one ever wins that argument (seen it here 1000000 times). so just have fun in it.
|
haha, thats true banditone. Everybody joins a fraternity for a different reason and that is what makes rush a difficult task to create an umbrella plan for all people. And that is the reason why each house has a big stereotype because you have a lot of guys performing the actions. But that is just my opinion, you have the jocks, the good GPA, etc.... (hopefully we could be the best in all of the above in a perfect situation).
|
Yeah, 24 before July is an extremely large amount of pledges. However, seeing the work that is being put in first hand, I'd be disappointed with anything less. Our recruitment chairs have put in countless hours, making phone calls, going to dinners, talking to parents, giving tours etc. . . One of our recruitment chairs traveled from Lawrence to Omaha to speak with 3 guys who were interested.(all three eventually signed) It's not just the recruitment chairs either. We've had guys who live in Oklahoma recruiting in their area, KC guys in their area, and central/southern KS guys in their own areas. Not only are active members helping but we are also receiving help/recommendations from many alumni. They don't just recommend guys who would make great Sigma Nus but also make phone calls to those who still need persuading. The whole colony has put in an enormous amount of work and it is paying off. I'm extremely excited for the fall semester to come around and see the summation of our efforts.

Nu Chapater Sigma Nu Progress
Greetings brothers!
Let me first introduce myself; I am John LeRoy, Senior at KU and Lt. Commander at the Nu Chapter! Every so often I google Sigma Nu KU when I get bored to see what I can find. In the past 2 years all I have come across has been "hazing closes Sigma Nu" or "Charter revoked" etc. It was not until tonight I discovered something a bit different. Distracted with my homework, I decided to see what the latest buzz on the web was. I saw a hot link that actually mentioned our recolonization! I also came across this greekchat forum and was rather surprised to see the amount of interest so many of you have in the progress of the Nu Chapter! I would like to extend a thank you to all of you who are in favor of our efforts and appreciate your support! I would also like to give all of you an update on whats happening! The first semester has just begun here at the University and we could not be off to a better start! We pulled a a total of 33 outstanding pledges ranging from Dallas to Omaha and St. Louis to western Kansas. Each of our pledges have great talents and are very bright young men. Our alumni have been nothing short of fabulous and our Rush Chairmen did an incredible job! We now have a combined total of 56 members. In the early Spring of 08' we mailed our 500+ page petition to Nationals and awaited approval to proceed with our charterization. The petition was reviewd by the High Council during the annual meeting in August and we were approved to receive our Charter! The Charterization ceremony is set to be on October 25th! All of us are ecstatic about the news and I am happy to share it with you all! I was in the pledge class in 2005 when the hazing shut the house down. At the time, I was devastated. I now consider it a blessing in disguise. 8 members of my pledge class returned with the help of outstanding alumni and we rebuilt this Chapter from the ground up. We built it the way a fraternity should be in accordance with the principles of Sigma Nu. We have set a new standard for fraternites on this Greek heavy campus. So far we have been the buzz talk of many frats and sororities on campus and it feels great to be recognized again - this time for our outstanding achievements! I'd be happy to inform any of you on anything else if you have any questions about our progress! Thanks again for your support! Nu is back! |
That is truly great news. I visited your chapter when I was an undergrad and came away really impressed. I loved the mansion and the guys I met showed us a good time.
So how is the house? Did all of your past pictures, composites, etc. survive the dormant time? |
More Nu News. http://www.kansan.com/stories/2008/o...ly_reinstated/
|
I just got back from the Nu chapter yesterday. Our candidates went on their sneak to KU this past weekend and we had a great time. I talked with a few of their actives in great depth, and it seems like they really have the house going in the right direction. Keep it up guys.
